La muerte descendente de varetas injertadas de zapote mamey es el principal problema durante la propagación vegetativa de este frutal en viveros comerciales en Guerrero, México. In the present study we examined the possibility of propagating different Cyclamen species (C. africanum Boiss. and Reut., C. cilicium Boiss. and Heldr., C. coum Mill., C. hederifolium Ait., C. persicum Mill., C. purpurascens Mill.) including some of their subspecies and cultivars in vitro using explants of adult plants. For this purpose two protocols have been applied to eleven genotypes combined with mostly four explant types (placentas with ovules, leaves, petioles and peduncles). The use of these protocols has given rise to either somatic embryo-like structures and/or adventitious shoots in all genotypes. This long-term study demonstrates for the first time that it is possible to propagate embryogenic cultures in pelargoniums and to subsequently initiate the differentiation of embryos using the cultivar Madame Layal (Pelargonium x domesticum). Propagation of callus was only possible with combinations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), which gave rise to embryos from the primary culture stage on. However, the propagation of cells, as well as the differentiation of embryos, was inhibited by a continuous application of these growth regulators. This study with beetroot seedlings, cultivar Top Tall Early Wonder, was carried out at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS/Aquidauana), from October to November 2008. Three environments of cultivation were used: greenhouse; nursery with monofilament screen of 50 % of shading; and nursery with aluminized thermal reflective screen of 50% of shading. Seed germination of species of the Juan Fernández archipiélago under laboratory conditions Gayana Botánica

The Juan Fernández Islands contain one of the world's most interesting floras. However, their conservation status is fragile due to direct and indirect human activities. With the aim of contributing to the conservation of the native species of these islands, germination trials have been performed under laboratory conditions. We studied the germination patterns and characteristics of 25 taxa of the archipelago, at temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, with 12.5 h. of photoperiod. Fruit yield of strawberry stock plants after runner tip production by different cultivars Horticultura Brasileira

The main objective of this research was to determine fruit yield of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) stock plants in a cropping system after producing runner tips and plug plants. Micropropagated stock plants were planted in a soilless growing system. Temporary storage of jussara palm seeds: effects of time, temperature and pulp on germination and vigor Horticultura Brasileira

Seeds of jussara palm (Euterpe edulis Mart.) are recalcitrant, presenting low longevity, high sensitivity to dehydration and to low temperatures of storage. Temperature conditions for temporary preservation of those seeds, with and without pulp, were studied. Mature fruits were harvested from 24 plants belonging to the palm collection of the Instituto Agronômico (IAC) located at Ubatuba, São Paulo State, Brazil, and taken in moisture-proof containers to the Universidade Estadual de São Paulo, in Botucatu, São Paulo State. Growth analysis of Fafia in relation to the propagation method used Horticultura Brasileira

A trial was carried out in Campinas, Brazil, from August 2005 to August 2006, in order to analyze the effect of two propagation methods (seeds and cuttings) on the development of Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen. The experimental design was a completely randomized block, with five replications, and two methods of plant propagation. Plant height, aerial part dry mass and root dry mass were evaluated. Plants propagated from cuttings showed greater accumulation of dry mass on the aerial part. Root dry mass accumulation curves showed an exponential pattern, and at the end of the experimental period, the average of roots dry mass for both treatments were similar, up to 349,65 g plant-1.

Cuttings of Lippia alba with emphasis on time for seedling formation, substrates and plant growth regulators Horticultura Brasileira

We aimed to establish the period of time required for seedlings formation, as well as to evaluate the effect of substrates and plant growth regulators in cuttings of L. alba. Three experiments were performed, with statistical designs chosen according to each test objectives. Rooting (%), shoot height (cm), longest root length (cm), leaves number, fresh and dry matter masses (g), were analyzed. The absolute rate of shoot and root system growth, together with the relationship between dry mass of roots and shoots were efficient in predicting the period of greatest speed and accumulation of organic matter in plants. Genetic improvment program of Prosopis in Northeastern Brazil. Infoteca-e

This paper reports the strategies of the genetic improvement program carried out by EMBRAPA, for the Psosopis species. The results obtained with the introduction of species from different ecological zones in the world are presented, as well as the tecnhiques of asexual propagation to establish a clonal seed orchard. Sixteen species of Prosopis from several provenances were introduced from Peru, Argentina, Chile, Senegal, Pakistan, Mexico, Cape Verde, Paragyay, Honduras and United States of America, from 1984 to 1994. The best species established in term of survival and growth were P. juliflora, P. pallida, P. velutina, P. glandulosa, P. cineraria and P. affinis. Aspects of wood and fodder production and quality of some Prosopis species are also presented.

Variedade de mandioca e um dos principais componentes para o desenvolvimento do sistema produtivo dessa cultura, alem de constituir uma tecnologia que nao implica em custos adicionais para o produtor. Apesar da mandioca apresentar um alto potencial produtivo, estimado por COCK (1974) em 90 t/ha/ano, a produtividade nacional esta em torno de 12 t/ha. Um dos fatores que tem contribuido para a baixa produtividade desse cultivo no Brasil, e o uso de variedades com baixo potencial produtivo.
