ABSTRACT: The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi community is low in Cerrado soils and it gradually increases with soil cropping. Rotations of crops and of production systems stimulate propagation of those fungi in the soil, mycorrhiza formation and its effects in the plants. The crop-pasture integrated systems are well recommended, as pastures favors spores multiplication and crops increase the number of species of those fungi in the soil. The mycorrhizal contribution on growth of soybean and Andropogon plants, used in an integrated system, was of 50 % and 90 % respectively. Therefore, the cultivation of cassava requires the adequate management of soil acidity and fertility, by the using of the appropriate combination of lime and phosphate fertilizer. Field experiments were carried out combining lime and phosphate fertilizer levels and cultivated with IAPAR 19 cassava variety. The best response in productivity was observed at the level of 200kg ha(-1) of P2O5 and 25% of soil base saturation, which corresponds to the level of 2t ha(1-) of lime for the present soils. The cropping systems change the dynamics of native arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and these, on the other hand, determine the contribution of arbuscular mycorrhiza on crop responses to lime and fertilizers and on the efficiency of the cropping system itself. Density of those native fungi in the soil is similar in both till and no-till planting systems and decreases with soil depth, being higher at 0 cm-10 cm. Cassava is usually cultivated with low or no inputs of lime and fertilizers. Nevertheless, it has been found responses of cassava to those inputs, mainly to phosphate fertilization, since the continuous cropping may exaust the soil nutrients which are already in a very low status.
