The oldest sediments on Curaçao are jasper¹), diabasetuff, siliceous slates²), radiolarian chert³), quartzporphyrite-crystal tuffs, porphyritecrystal tuffs, lithic porphyrite tuffs, tuffites, tuffite breccias, aphanitic crystal tuffs, tuffite-shales, graywacke-shales and graywackes4). This group of rocks — the Knip-series — is named after the plantation Knip. The stratigraphic sequence of the Knip-series is difficult to ascertain. They are intensively folded¹). I believe it would be safe to assert, that the oldest sediments of this series are jasper and diabase tuffs.
