Whitebacked Planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera (Horvath) has been a major pest in irrigated rice growing areas of Chiang Rai province since 2003. Light trap, an effective tool for monitoring the outbreaks of WBPH was conducted in hot spot areas. A light trap was set in Chiang Rai Rice Research Center while surveying in farmers’ fields in Chiang Rai province were investigated during January 2009 to December 2010. The number of WBPH caught from light trap was counted everyday throughout the year. The results showed that light trap could collect a large number of WBPH. The peak of WBPH in light trap was 9,703 hoppers/trap/month which related to the WBPH outbreak in farmers’ fields.

A study on ecological engineering on rice to develop sustainable means to reducing crop losses due to rice pest outbreaks were taken in wet season, 2011 at Chiangrai Rice Research Center and in farmer’s field at Phan District, Chiangrai Province. The main objective was to compare between of Ecological Engineering (EE) means (EE site) and farmer’s practices (control site) as well as the effects on numbers of pest and natural enemies. The numbers of species and amount of each insect pest and natural enemies were collected by visual counting, sweep net, yellow pan trap, egg bait trap and D-vac machine. It was found that : the major pest in EE site was Nephotettix spp. Whereas major natural enemies was spider such as Lycosa psedoannulata, Oxyopes sp., Argiope...

Study about the accordance of rice insect pests from the light trap and the research data of insects in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 (weak) and that of SuphanBuri 1 (resistant) was conducted from the year 2011 to 2013 at the Chiang Rai Rice Research Center. It’s found that the rice insect pests entrapped by the light trap being increased from the year 2007 to 2010. That in May, 2011, 4,779 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found; in March, 2012, 19,248 whitebacked planthoppers were mostly found and; in May, 2013, 19,047 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found. In the paddy field, rice insect pests were found in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 more than that of Suphan Buri 1. In the In-season rice of the year 2011, the White backed planthoppers were mostly...

Main objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between climate changes and rice disease s epidemics in Chiangrai and Phayao provinces. The study was conducted at Chiangrai Rice Research Center during the year 2011-2013 by monthly broadcasting two popular rice varieties in the area; Phitsanulok 2 and Sanpatong 1. The experiment was carried out in Split plot in RCB Design with 3 replicates having month as main plot and variety as sub-plot. Disease incidence and severity were evaluated at 3 growth stages i.e. 20, 50 and 90 days after sowing. Concurrently, Disease incidence and severity were recorded for rice diseases in the farmers’ fields of Chiangrai and Phayao provinces having infected at 10 rai and above. Disease data showed that both rice...
