CCS08054-KLG-9-1-1-2-1 is a short duration photoperiod insensitive rice, non-glutinous, and non-aromatic rice line derived from a cross between Chainat 1 and IR40. The single cross hybridization was made in 2008 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2009-2011.The line CCS08054-KLG-9-1-1-2-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 115 cm height on transplanting; 99 days maturity on transplanting. The cooked rice is hardly non-aromatic and the amylose content is 24.56 percent. The seed size is larger than Pathum Thani 1 and Suphanburi 1. The period of seed dormancy is about 4 weeks. . Its yield potential is up to 759 kg/rai or more when grown under...

In wet season, rainfed area in Lower Northern of Thailand has has an abundance of soil and water availability which is suitable for growing a photoperiod-sensitive rice with high yield potential. However, favorite rice varieties often have low yield and are susceptible to rice pests. Breeding for high yield and resistance to disease and insect pests while maintaining good eating quality is, therefore, the major approaches in changing rice varieties for good qualities, increased yield and adequate consumption. A promising lines, PSL97060-17-CNT-1-2-1, was obtained from three-way cross between KLG88028-22-1-2-2 and F1 of SPR88096-17-3-2-2 and IR60 at Phitsanulok Rice Research Center. Selection in F4-F6 was subsequently conducted at Chai Nat Rice Research...

The program on research and development of rainfed lowland rice in north eastern Thailand in collaboration with the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) have carried out the project to develop an early maturing, blast resistant, non-glutinous rice variety. The cross between IR57514-PMI-5-B-1-2 and RGDU99016-MAS-77 was developed and the progenies were backcrossed to IR57514-PMI-5-B-1-2 for 3 time at RGDU, BIOTEC. The selected promising line; RGDU06337-MAS-24-B-B, was finally obtained. This line is a non-glutinous, photoperiod sensitive, early maturing line which flowers approximately on October 8 and is ready for harvest on November 11. The average number of panicles per hill is 11 panicles. The average plant height is 114 cm....

Chai Nat province still has some non-irrigated areas. Farmers in those areas can grow rice once a year with rainfed water. They usually grow good quality rice varieties for consumption in family and neighborhood. “Khao Jek” is local rice variety widely grow in Den Yai and Pri Nok-yung of Hankha district. The cooked eating qualities have soft texture and aroma. It’s the most favorite variety of local farmers. Chai Nat Rice Research Center collected this variety in 2004 and continuously improved by pureline selection, observation, intra-station, inter-station, farmers’ field yield trial, yield stability trial and promising line test. Results found that this variety is a non-glutinous photoperiod sensitive rice variety, having early maturity being harvested...

Rice gall midge (GM) is an important insect pest in the upper north of Thailand i.e. Tak, Phrae, Lampang, Nan, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces. Severe infestations generally occur during September to October. Prior to this study, only MN62M and RD4, the two glutinous rice varieties were recommended as resistant ones. Hence, the non-glutinous type with resistance to GM is in urgent need. The research has been conducted for 12 years during 2001 - 2012. The cross was made between PRE92039-3-1-2-1 and SPT82022-PRE-26-3-2-GM-6. Populations were selected continuously from F2 to F6 after which study and evaluation were carried out in successive steps from observational nursery, intra-station yield trial, inter-station yield trial and...

Contamination of non-glutinous rice in glutinous rice crop leads to undesirable cooking quality. An experiment was conducted to determine causes of non- glutinous seeds occurrence in panicles of a glutinous variety; RD6. This study was carried out by planting a single seedling in a pot. Three treatments were applied to the plants at flowering stage; i.e. 1) cover the panicles with glassine bags, 2) emasculation without glassin bag covering and 3) no emasculation and without glassin bag covering. Ten pots were placed within the Khao Dawk Mali 105 production field. Seed set percentage and starch type identification were analyzed. The results showed that there was no occurrence of non-glutinous seeds in treatments 1 and 3. Seed set was found in 5 panicles...

การยอมรับของเกษตรกรต่อข้าวนาชลประทานสายพันธุ์ดีเด่นในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ Thai Agricultural
Jongjai Mapakhe.
This study aims to evaluate the farmers' preference to promising irrigated rice lines grown in farmers' fields in north eastern Thailand during wet season 2013. The preference analyses were carried out at 2 stages; at reproductive stage to evaluate for agronomic characteristics, and after harvest to evaluate for grain physical qualities and cooking qualities. Two sets of promising lines were evaluated; glutinous and non-glutinous set. At the reproductive stage, the preference analyses were carried out in 3 provinces. It was found that the glutinous cultivar RD10 and the non-glutinous line KKN01041-23-2-1-1 were the most preferred cultivar/line by farmers. The reasons for their preference were because of the following traits; strong stem, good tillering...

UBN03007-47-7-7-26-35-19: ข้าวเจ้าสายพันธุ์ดีเด่นอายุเบาต้านทานโรคไหม้ Thai Agricultural
Anuchart Kotchasatit.
The rainfed lowland rice breeding program for Northeastern Thailand: Phase II in collaboration with the Biotechnology project has developed an early maturing, non-glutinous promising line resistant to blast, namely UBN03007-47-7-7-26-35-19. This line was derived from the cross between IR77955-24-75-284 and DHL-279 (a blast resistant donor) at Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center in wet season 2003, using both conventional and marker-assisted selection methods. The line UBN03007-47-7-7-26-35-19 is a photoperiod sensitive line. The approximate harvesting date is on 10 November. The average plant height and average number of panicles per hill are 157 cm and 9 panicles, respectively. The average grain yield for on-station trials and on-farm trials are 517 and...
