Low-concentrations (0.1-0.3 mg *l-1) of glucose and hydrolyzate are found to render a strong regulating action 15-36.8% on the algae growth and photosynthesis. Depending on the combination of a substrate concentration and light intensity, this action could be both negative and positive. The highest stimulating effect on both of these processes was observed in low light intensity variants (2.6-7.6 thou. lux). Alongside with, this certain species were marked to have second maximum in growth and photosynthesis rates associated with bright illumination (36-45 thou. lux). The response of different phytoplanktonic species to addition of one and the same substance, and the response of the same species to substrates of different chemical nature were different, i.e. the regulating dissolved organic matter (DOM) action on algae production processes is determined by the species specificity, organic matter chemical nature and concentration as well as by illumination conditions.
