Resumo: |
The Fisheries Management Science Programme (FMSP), is one of ten Renewable Natural Resources Research Programmes funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The objective of DFID’s research strategy is to generate new knowledge and to promote its uptake and application such that the livelihoods of poor people are improved through better management of renewable natural resources. Within the FMSP, the programme purpose is to generate benefits for poor people by the application of new knowledge to fisheries management systems. There are two outputs, relating to capture and enhancement fisheries, within each of which both the marine and inland environments are covered. East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) is the geographic focus for the marine fisheries component of the programme. Minor inputs are also relevant for Indian Ocean island states, plus promotion of FMSP outputs in Orissa and Andra Pradesh (India).
