Resumo:  A experiência pedagógica baseada na Carta Internacional dos Itinerários Culturais, CIIC (ICOMOS, 2008) teve como objetivo principal identificar e conectar acontecimentos históricos a forma de ocupação do homem sobre o território do vale do Paraíba(SP).

The region of "Vale do Paraíba" is a region with an estimated population of three million inhabitants, where the urbanization level is 93.54%, consisting of the union of 39 municipalities. It has the largest concentration of historical buildings associated with the Economic Cycle of Coffee in Brazil. The region has been the subject of several studies that aim to understand historical facts that identify the current cultural values, as a single regional heritage. One of these historical facts is the process of migration within the territory, which relates to several events that took place between the various municipalities. New research approaches study this environment as a process of updating experiences from the past into contemporary history. The course of architecture and urbanism at the University of Taubaté, recognizing the importance of contributing to this historical valuation and awareness for the preservation of the transformation process of cities in the region of "Vale do Paraíba" presents, as one of the proposals of the pedagogical program, an exercise of practical activities integrated with the history of this region. Within the proposed course: teaching, research and other activities including the study of man and his relations with the physical and cultural environment. During the year 2014 the subject of Retrospective Techniques performed, along with other subjects in the architectural and urbanism course, the development of thematic maps to identify possible cultural itineraries to the region of the "Vale do Paraíba". The pedagogical experience based on the International Charter on Cultural Itineraries, (ICOMOS, 2008) aimed to identify and connect historical events and the way of occupation of man on the regional territory. The pedagogical practice employs a set of three actions with systematic procedures: a bibliographic review of documents, papers, maps and historical iconography with the application of regressive method; case studies as an application of records by drawings, electing values to the categories of cultural and environmental assets, with the interpretive method articulated to the environmental awareness as the analysis procedure; and for last, the construction of the historical setting which materializes with the graphic elaboration of sixteen proposals for Regional Cultural Itineraries, taking as its starting point, or passing through an elected historic city in the "Vale do Paraíba". This pedagogical experience will provide an understanding of the direct relationship of the architectural heritage and the spatial ordering of the territory that will help to elaborate public guidelines in the area of preservation of cultural and environmental heritage.
