Recombinant CHO TF70R cells are able to grow and produce t-PA on serum-free medium BIOPRO1 (BioWhitaker Europe, Belgium). The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of medium supplementation with vitamins, lipids, and specific amino acids on cell growth, t-PA production and biological functionality. Among vitamins, only biotin, folic acid, cobalamine and benzoic acid were required for improving growth and t-PA production. Lipid supplement allowed a significant increase cell concentration and t-PA specific activity and concentration, though its specific production rate decreased slightly. Marine fish larvae undergo major functional and morphological changes during the developmental stages and several factors can interfere with the normal development of larvae and affect fry quality. Skeletal malformations, such as spinal malformation-scoliosis, lordosis, coiled vertebral column-, missing or additional fin rays, bending opercle or jaw malformations, are frequently observed in hatchery-reared larvae. This paper reviews the effects of some nutritional components on skeletal development in larvae of a number of fish species. Optimization of common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) protein hydrolysate using Pepsin by Response Surface Methodology ArchiMer

Protein hydrolysate was prepared from common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis by Pepsin. Hydrolysis conditions (time, temperature, and enzyme activity) were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) using a factorial design. The regression coefficient was close to 0.999, observed during both experimental and validation runs, and indicated the validity of prediction model. An enzyme activity to substrate ratio (X1), 0.04 AU/g protein; time (X2), 85 minutes; and temperature (X3), 45 °C were found to be the optimum conditions for a higher degree of hydrolysis (21%) and nitrogen recovery (90%) using Pepsin. The objective of this work was to determine the dietary lysine (DL) and dietary arginine (DA) requirements of dourado (Salminus brasiliensis), through dose-response trials using the amino acid profiles of whole carcasses as a reference. Two experiments were carried out in a completely randomized design (n=4). In the first experiment, groups of 12 feed-conditioned dourado juveniles (11.4±0.2 g) were stocked in 60 L cages placed in 300 L plastic indoor tanks in a closed circulation system. Chemical composition and fatty acid contents in farmed freshwater prawns PAB

The objective of this work was to evaluate the chemical composition and fatty acid contents of Amazonian and giant river prawns. After four-month farming, with the same diet for both species, palmitic and stearic acids were the main saturated fatty acids. Oleic acid was the main monounsatured fatty acid, and the eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids were the most abundant polyunsaturated acids. Amazonian prawn has higher levels of protein and polyunsaturated fatty acids than those of the giant river prawn, which shows its potential for aquaculture.

Effect of energy levels of diets formulated on total or digestible amino acid basis on broiler performance Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance and carcass and breast yields of broilers fed two different energy levels (3,200 or 2,900 kcal ME/kg) and two ways of expressing amino acid requirements (total - TAA or digestible - DAA) between 21 and 42 days of age. The results showed that broilers fed the diet containing 3,200 kcal ME/kg had higher weight gain (P=0.015), better feed conversion (P=0.001), and higher abdominal fat deposition (P=0.001) as compared to those fed the diet containing 2,900 kcal ME/kg. ABSTRACT Eighteen sows were used to determine the effect of dietary valine:lysine (val:lys) ratios on lactation performance in primiparous sows and litter performance. Sows, raised in individual pens, were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 experimental diets containing different standardized ileal digestibility (SID) val:lys ratios of 0.80 or 0.85. Corn-soybean-wheat-based diets were formulated to achieve the dietary treatments (0.86% or 0.87% SID lysine, and 0.69% or 0.74% SID valine).
