There exists no biochemical test allowing to define the pathogenicity of a bacterium, still less for a Vibrionaceae. Two essential characters are to be retained to hold responsible an isolated germ, for an illness: 1) the binding factor, the identification is difficult but a double diffusion of agar should simplify the method; 2) the search for the choleric toxin or a common part of the choleric toxin (toxin LT or ST of E. coli ). Here again, simplified techniques may be used. The acquirement of a plasmid responsible for the binding factor or for the toxin production of the non-pathogenic Vibrionaceae in the origin of certain epidemic diseases in France and in the world. Frequently, epidemics due to common germs (Aeromonas hydrophila of Africa) lead to... |

A bacterial strain belonging to the genus Vibrio was involved in a recurrent outbreak of disease in Manila clam Tapes philippinarum larvae at a commercial hatchery, This vibrio, named VTP for convenience, was not related to the known pathogenic vibrios and possessed unusual characteristics, Only Manila clam larvae and postlarvae were affected by the disease, Oyster and scallop larvae were not affected by vrp, Survival of vrp was found to be of short duration in seawater but even a very small number of cells (1 cell per 5 ml) could initiate the disease, VTP did not grow on thiosulfate-citratebile-sucrose agar and was resistant to chloramphenicol. An epidemiological study utilizing bioassays revealed the presence of VTP in adult bivalves and in the... |

The paper deals with the hygienic advantages of sanitation to treat dairy manure in full-scale biogas plants. Slurry samples were collected from two thermophilic biogas plants (55ºC) and two mesophilic biogas plants (38ºC) in Hokkaido, Japan. The detectable number of Coli-aerogenes group and Enterococcus in the slurries after anaerobic digestion could not be found in both thermophilic biogas plants. In both mesophilic biogas plants, however, the viable numbers of Coli-aerogenes group and Enterococcus were detected in the slurries even after anaerobic digestion. The mean decimation reduction time (T90) values of Coli-aerogenes group and Enterococcus in the slurries during mesophilic digestion were 13.3 d and 16.7 d, respectively. |

Seagrasses species in Bardawil Lake have been defined through broad quantitative sampling. From the biochemical constituent's point of view, two species namely; Cymodocea nodosa and Ruppia cirrhosa were evaluated as feed additives and antimicrobial active compounds. The obtained results showed an obvious increase in chlorophyll "a", carbohydrate and lipid contents in the C. nodosa than R. cirrhosa while protein contents was higher in R. cirrhosa than in C. nodosa. Whole plant tissues powder substance (10.0%w/v) and ethanolic extracts (200μg/ml) of C. nodosa and R. cirrhosa were evaluated against some microorganisms using pour plate technique. Powdered substance of C. nodosa was exhibited the highest antifungal activity than that of R. cirrhosa, also its... |

This study aims to the evaluation of the microbial quality of the River Nile water at Damietta Branch. Water samples were taken from the branch, during the period from autumn, 2005 till the summer of 2006. Some environmental parameters such as temperature, transparency, depth and pH were monitored. In addition, the bacteriological analyses involved total viable bacterial counts (TVBCs), total coliforms (TC) and estimation of faecal coliforms (FC), faecal streptococci and pathogenic bacteria. The results of physicochemical parameters showed that the temperature values varied from 17°C to 25°C and the transparency from 40cm to 220cm. Whereas, the depths varied from 3m to 25m and pH values from 7.24 to 8.44. The bacteriological analyses showed that TVBCs... |

As a result of an agreement signed by the Municipal Government of Baradero Buenos Aires Province, Argentina and the INIDEP, the sanitary quality of the Baradero River waters was studied and fish safety assessed. Results of five field surveys carried out between 1993 and 1997 are studied. Organochlorine and organophosphorate pesticide residues, as well as traces of heavy metals were analyzed in 49 fish specimens and aerobic heterotrophic bacteria (AHB), total coliform bacteria (TC) and fecal coliform bacteria (FC) were counted out in 7 sampling stations placed on the coast and the riverbed. Alpha Hexachlorohexane, gamma Hexachlorohexane, beta Hexachlorohexane, Aldrin, Heptachlor epoxide, pp'DDE and Dieldrin were detected in fish tissues. The values of AHB... |
