| The "Artificial reefs" and "Repopulating" issues have been tackled by the Ifremer for a number of years without reaching a clear cut point of view, mainly for lack of socio-economic elements necessary to a rigorous analysis of these devices and practices. During a mission in Japan in January 2006, some Japanese experts, have presented to the head of the Ifremer a few examples of realisations related to these fields and conducted in their country. The head of the Ifremer realised the scope of such devices in Japan and expressed the wish to see an in-depth study carried out over there. | Guam consists of a single main island surrounded by shallow fringing coral reefs. The marine species and ecology of Guam's coral reefs have been studied extensively, especially through programs of the University of Guam's Marine Laboratory. In addition to overfishing and destructive fishing practices, the marine benthic communities of Guam have been damaged by major storm waves; loss of corals to crown of thorns starfish predation; damage by recreational swimmers, divers and watercraft operators; grounding of ships and pollutant discharges of sewage and of stormwater. | Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) is a pleiotropic cytokine with both pro- and antiinflammatory properties, depending on its environment and concentration. The present study evaluated the effects of orally-delivered TGF-β1 on mice parenterally-infected with various protozoan parasites. We report that while orally-administered TGF-β1 seems to confer partial protection against murine chronic babesiosis and acute trypanosomosis, no beneficial clinical effects were observed against acute babesiosis, malaria or toxoplasmosis. Taken together, these preliminary data suggest that the systemic effects conferred by exogenous TGF-β1 could be parasite speciesspecific. | Ante la alta incidencia de langostas sublegales en las capturas de la región nororiental de Cuba, la cual se efectúa en casi 70 % con nasas, se diseñó y ejecutó un experimento para determinar la influencia de diferentes ventanas de escape de 53, 55 y 57 mm de alto por 440 mm de largo, en la evasión de langostas sublegales y de otras especies marinas capturadas de forma incidental. Los análisis estadísticos (Anova) demuestran que no se presentan diferencias significativas (p > 0,05) entre el largo y el alto del cefalotórax entre hembras y machos; las curvas de selectividad basadas en el escape de langostas de talla conocida a través de los tres altos de ventana, muestran que la ventana de 55 mm de alto presenta los mejores resultados para la actual talla... |

| Le mildiou de la laitue (Bremia lactucae) est la maladie la plus redoutée sur cette espèce, notamment en culture biologique d’hiver sous abris. En Provence, les dégâts sont très importants, parfois dès la pépinière, et entraînent de fortes pertes financières. Cette situation est due à deux facteurs principaux : d’une part au contournement récurrent des résistances génétiques par de nouvelles souches de Bremia (26 races déterminées à ce jour), et d’autre part à la faiblesse des méthodes de lutte biologique possibles contre ce champignon (notamment la faible efficacité des traitements à base de cuivre). Cet essai consiste en un test de produits alternatifs de différentes natures (extraits de plantes, produits minéraux...). |

| Damit ein Pflanzenschutzprodukt im Biolandbau verwendet werden darf, müssen verschiedene Anforderungen erfüllt werden: 1. Zulassung als Pflanzenschutzmittel auf nationaler Ebene. 2. Zulassung des Wirkstoffes auf Ebene Biorichtlinien (Bioverordnung und Annex II der EU Richtlinie 2092/91). 3. Zulassung des Wirkstoffes auf privatrechtlicher Ebene, national bei Bio-Suisse, international bei IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculutural Movements). 4. Zulassung auf Ebene Handelsprodukt. In jedem Jahr werden sämtliche Pflanzenschutzprodukte, die im Biolandbau verwendet werden dürfen, in der FiBL Hilfsstoffliste aufgeführt. Die Labelinhaber Bio-Suisse und Migros-Bio entscheiden alljährlich über die Aufnahme von Produkten und Wirkstoffkategorien. |

| Venturia inaequalis causes apple scab. The control of the disease in organic apple production depends on the use of copper which will be restricted in future for environmental reasons. In the search for environmental friendly microbial biocontrol agents and stimulation of antagonistic populations in situ the molecular technique of DGGE fingerprinting can is applied. This fingerprinting technique allows to bypass culturing techniques and even can identify not yet culturable organisms. Comparison of microbial fingerprints and pathogen development in the leaf samples during winter and spring has been performed to identify populations with antagonistic potential. | Background and aims of the project ThermoSeed™ is a new cost-effective treatment concept developed by Acanova AB that permits environmentally friendly sanitation of seed from seed-borne diseases using hot, humid air. SvL, the Swedish Farmers Supply and Crop Marketing Association, has been granted financiation from the EU-Life environment programme (under “Clean Technologies”) in order to introduce the ThermoSeed™ concept on full scale on the seed treatment market together with Acanova. Problemerne varierer lidt, men både sortsvalg, ukrudtsbekæmpelse og plantesystemer er fælles udfordringer. Konferencen ”Organic Fruit 2012” blev afholdt i staten Washington i USA i juni, og der blev fremlagt mange spændende forsøgsresultater. Takket være støtte fra Fonden for Økologisk Landbrug deltog jeg i konferencen og vil her bringe de bedste tip videre. |
