Última Cytogenetics and redescription of Graomys (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) from Chumbicha, Catamarca, Argentina Mastozool. neotrop. Lanzone,Cecilia; Novillo,Agustina; Suárez,Natalia S.; Ojeda,Ricardo A.. The taxonomy, phylogenetic relationships and distribution of the genus Graomys are confusing. In this note we report karyotypic data for specimens of Graomys collected in Chumbicha, Catamarca Province, Argentina. Their karyotypes agree with G. centralis with 2n = 42. The individuals from Chumbicha are similar in morphology to G. griseoflavus but smaller. Our results suggest that Chumbicha's specimens are conspecific with G. medius. Moreover, we propose to synonymize G. medius with G. centralis. Other data of the genus suggest that the name G. chacoensis should be applied to specimens with 2n = 42. Se reporta el primer registro con material de referencia de Cuniculus paca para la provincia de Formosa en la Región Chaqueña Argentina. Este se basa en un cráneo colectado y en 18 fotografías obtenidas con trampas cámaras en la selva en galería del riacho Pilagá (estancia Guaycolec: 25° 58' S, 58° 11' O) ubicada en la macrounidad ambiental del Chaco Húmedo. Se caracterizó el patrón de actividad de la especie a partir de los registros horarios de las fotografías. Se observó un patrón de actividad estrictamente nocturno, aparentemente influenciado por el ciclo lunar; no se obtuvo ningún registro fotográfico durante períodos de luna llena o luna nueva. Los murciélagos de bonete, género Eumops, presentan una amplia distribución geográfica en América; sin embargo, la escasa cantidad de colectas hace que este grupo no sea bien conocido tanto en la sistemática como en la distribución geográfica de sus formas. En el Perú están representados por siete especies; no obstante, recientes estudios en las Yungas del departamento de Cusco, sureste del Perú, revelaron hallazgos novedosos para este género, dentro de los cuales destaca el primer registro de E. patagonicus para el Perú y una nueva localidad de registro para E. hansae. Here we report three new specimens of Neusticomys oypocki from northeastern Brazilian Amazonia collected in a plantation forestry landscape. These represent one third of all known N. oyapocki specimens and extend the distribution of the species ca. 360 km southwards. All specimens were captured with pitfall traps, which reinforce the importance of this method for comprehensive small mammal inventories. Moreover, captures occurred during the dry season in primary, secondary, or plantation forests, suggesting that species of Neusticomys may be more opportunistic habitat generalists than previously thought. Walker,R. Susan; Novaro,Andrés J.; Perovic,Pablo G.. Mountain vizcachas (genus Lagidium) are large, rock-dwelling rodents of the Andes and the Patagonian steppe. We tested the bounded count and double observer methods for estimating mountain vizcacha population size. Estimates obtained with these two count-based methods and a Lincoln-Petersen mark-resight estimate were similar. However, estimates obtained with the double observer method were the most precise, and the method is easy to use and practical. We recommend the use of the double observer method because it incorporates an estimate of detection probability that reduces bias and allows comparisons between sites and across time. We documented a maternity nest of the poorly studied Amazon red squirrel. The nest was located in a bromeliad and contained two young, a male and a female. Nyctinomops macrotis Gray, 1840 is amply distributed in the New World, ranging between the southwestern United States and northern Argentina. In Brazil, however, most records are concentrated in the southern Atlantic Forest, with few data from other regions, and none at all from the semi-arid Caatinga scrub­lands of the Northeast. This study presents the first record of N. macrotis for this biome, and a major extension of the known range for this species in Brazil. Kerodon rupestris (Wied, 1820) is the most specialized species among caviid rodents and is endemic to the extensive rocky outcrops in the semi-arid region in Brazil. Herein we describe different karyotypes for K. rupestris, based on samples collected in Itapajé, Ceará (CE), Iraquara in Bahia (BA), and Botumirim in Minas Gerais (MG). Our samples included northern, center and southern populations in the range of the species dis­tribution. The results were compared with a karyotype from Pernambuco previously described for the species. The diploid number (2n = 52) was constant among the analyzed population samples, but the fundamental number (FN) varied from 92 in Itapajé (CE) and Iraquara (BA), to 94 in Botumirim (MG). Para describir la comunidad de quirópteros de San Luis de la Paz, México, se asociaron abundancia, tamaño y gremio trófico de los ejemplares con el hábitat de colecta y se estimaron diversidad, equitatividad, riqueza y dominancia. La mayor diversidad se presentó en el matorral crasicaule subinerme. La familia más frecuente fue Phyllostomidae y la especie más abundante fue Sturnira lilium. Los insectívoros constituyeron el gremio más diverso. La elevada riqueza específica de esta comunidad podría deberse a su ubicación entre las regiones neártica y neotropical, a la presencia de endemismos y a su diversidad de hábitats y de recursos tróficos, entre otros factores. Detectamos el refugio de una colonia de maternidad de Eptesicus brasiliensis en una liana de la estación biológica de Cocha Cashu (Perú). Nuestro objetivo fue describir el refugio y el hábitat alrededor del mismo utilizando métodos visuales para estimar el tamaño de la colonia y el tiempo de forrajeo. Al menos 10 adultos (9&#9792;, 1&#9794;) y un juvenil utilizaron la cavidad de una liana que colgaba sobre un sendero angosto. Utilizamos un visor nocturno y trampas-cámara infrarrojas para advertir que los murciélagos dejaron el refugio por periodos de forrajeo cortos (<1 hr). Además discutimos la importancia potencial de las lianas como lugares de refugio en bosques tropicales.
