Influence of calcium content of tissue on hyperhydricity and shoot-tip necrosis of in vitro regenerated shoots of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. BABT
Machado,Marília Pereira; Silva,André Luís Lopes da; Biasi,Luiz Antonio; Deschamps,Cícero; Bespalhok Filho,João Carlos; Zanette,Flávio.
In the present study, the effects of two CaCl2.2H2O levels (440 and 1320 mg L-1) and two subcultures were evaluated on in vitro shoots of Lavandula angustifolia cv. Provence Blue. Ca2+ content of the apical, middle and basal portion of shoots was determined. Increasing CaCl2.2H2O level in the culture medium increased tissue Ca2+ content and decreased hyperhydricity. Shoot-tip necrosis also decreased with 1320 mg L-1 CaCl2.2H2O, but it did not occur in the second subculture. The middle and basal portion had higher Ca2+ content than apical portion. In non-hyperhydric tissues, there were smaller and more juxtaposed cells. Scanning electron microscopy of the leaves demonstrated that trichomes from in vitro leaf surface occurred in smaller quantities.

Extraction model of low methoxyl pectin from apple pomace effects of acid concentration and time on the process and the product BABT
Fertonani,Heloísa Cristina Ramos; Scabio,Ardalla; Carneiro,Eliana Beleski Borba; Schemim,Maria Helene Canteri; Nogueira,Alessandro; Wosiacki,Gilvan.
In Brazil, one of the top apple producing countries in the world, apple processing is an increasing activity, with pomace as the main by-product. To extract pectin from pomace, factors affecting process and product should be studied for optimization. A model to produce LMP directly from dried apple pomace was established observing the effects of HNO3 concentration and the time of reaction at 97ºC, analyzed from a statistical and practical point of view. The model for gravimetric yield (R² =0.9834) predicts the highest value of 20.07 g/100 g (126 mM; 14.07 min) of a pectin with a degree of esterification of 48.49%. The model for degree of esterification of extracted pectin (R²= 0.9797) predicts the lowest value of 43.73% (200 mM; 10.07 min) with a yield of...

Allochthonous matter input in two different stretches of a headstream (Itatinga, São Paulo, Brazil) BABT
Afonso,Ana Adelina de O.; Henry,Raoul; Rodella,Rita C.S.Maimoni.
In two streches of the Itaúna stream, one in a gallery forest and the other in an herbaceous vegetation zone, litter matter input (sorted by leaves, ligneous and reproductive components) were measured during a year. In the gallery forest stretch, the direct input and lateral transport attained 713 g.m-2.year-1 and 421 g.m-1. year-1, respectively. In contrast, the herbaceous vegetation stretch showed a direct litter input and lateral transport of only 86 g.m-2.year-1 and 124 g.m-1. year-1, respectively. The empoverishment of riparian vegetation had a significant effect on the decrease of allochthonous input to stream mainly by direct input. Peaks of direct input into Itaúna stream occurred during late dry season and in the early wet season. They were...

Potentiality of Using Mechanically Separated Meats of Nile Tilapia in Fishburgers: Chemical, Physical and Sensory Characterization BABT
Costa,Denise Pinheiro Soncini da; Gonçalves,Tania Maria Vinturin; Conti-Silva,Ana Carolina.
Abstract Fishburgers were made with washed mechanically separated meat (MSM) from carcass and filleting by-product (both washed and unwashed) of the Nile tilapia. The proximal composition of fishburgers was different and varied according to the raw material used, as well the color parameters. Fishburgers with MSM from filleting by-product had lower hardness and springiness, and fishburger with MSM from unwashed filleting by-product had higher yield and lower reduction in thickness. The fishburgers containing MSM from filleting by-product had better sensory acceptance, due to higher color intensities (sensory), fish odor, tenderness, succulence, cohesiveness and fish flavor. The fishburger with MSM from washed carcass was the least acceptable, because of...
