Diakonoff, A.. |
In 1913, Edward Meyrick removed several genera from his compound family Yponomeutidae and united them in a new group, "Glyphipterygidae". After 1954, this name has been used generally, often in the emended spelling "Glyphipterigidae". The family name was not new but used by Meyrick in an entirely different sense. Former authors (Zeller, 1839; Stainton, 1854; Frey, 1856, etc.) indicated with the name "Glyphipterygidae" only one of the two main groups of Meyrick's enlarged concept, viz., the "Glyphipteryginae" or the "Glyphipterygidae sensu stricto". In spite of its existence during quite a long time, Meyrick's family " Glyphiteryginae" proved to be an unsatisfactory combination. In later years, especially recently, its highly heterogeneous character became... |

Sixteen new genera and 62 new species are described and illustrated. The new genera concern: Mannokeraia gen. nov. (type species: M. apterus spec. nov. from Australia), Masona gen. nov. (type species: M. prognatha spec. nov. from U.S.A.), Anachyra gen. nov. (type species: A. setosipes spec. nov. from Australia), Pseudochremylus gen. nov. The habitus and genitalia are illustrated for the twelve species of Pterophoridae known from the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador). The status of one species is discussed, as it may be the unknown female of Postplatyptilia minima spec. nov. Five species are described as new: Postplatyptilia huigraica, P. minima, Platyptilia nigroapicalis, Oidaematophorus cristobalis and O. devriesi. Redescriptions and/or diagnoses are given for the other seven species. Lectotypes are designated for Pterophorus nephogenes Meyrick and Platyptilia brevipennis Zeller. A key based on adult external features is provided. Four species were found to be possibly endemic to the archipelago. New foodplant records are given for two species. |

In 1946, after the war, I had the opportunity again to visit my friend Mr. C. Willemse, and to study the Phyllophorinae in his collection. At the same time I could examine two specimens from the Rotterdam Museum, belonging to the subfamily, which had been sent to him for identification. Especially these last mentioned two specimens are very interesting, the one being the still unknown ♂ of Sasima areolata Bol., the second a somewhat aberrant ♀ specimen of Phyllophora keyica Brunner v. Watt. For the literature I may refer to Orthopterological Notes II (De Jong, 1946). The sequence of the species is according to Karny (1924) Sasima spinosa Brunner von Wattenwyl Mr. C. The availability of aquatic oxygen can limit habitat suitability for benthic insects, and differences in hypoxia tolerance can therefore play a role in explaining distributions in the field. This study describes a behavioural test in which the trade off between different survival strategies after exposure to different oxygen concentrations is analyzed, using the caddisfly Hydropsyche angustipennis as a model organism. The impedance conversion technique was used to quantify patterns of behaviour for individual caddisflies at three levels of dissolved oxygen (100%, 50%, and 30% saturation) under controlled laboratory conditions. Exposure to hypoxia resulted in behavioural changes: under low-oxygen conditions, larvae increased their ventilation rate, which... |

Interesting records of beetles in The Netherlands (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae, Nitidulidae, Dermestidae) Tachyporus quadriscopulatus Pandellé, 1869 has been recorded for the second time in the Netherlands at Arcen and Velden, province of Limburg. After 27 years, a third record of Carpophilus marginellus Motschulsky, 1858 can be reported from St. Geertruid, in the southern part of the province of Limburg. One specimen was found outdoors, in a wood. One specimen of Anthrenocerus australis Hope, 1843 was also found outdoors, in Oost- Maarland also in southern Limburg, sitting on a flower in a meadow. |

Abstract. The Nepticulidae of the Russian provinces (oblasts) Ul’yanovsk, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd, Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk and the Kalmyk Republic are listed. We record 60 species, including two only previously recorded, 28 species only on the basis of leafmines (indicated with an *). Seventeen species are recorded as new for Russia. Eleven of these are reported on the basis of adults: Stigmella glutinosae (Stainton, 1858), S. ulmiphaga (Preissecker, 1942), S. thuringiaca (Petry, 1904), S. rolandi Van Nieukerken, 1990, S. hybnerella (Hübner, 1813), Trifurcula (Trifurcula) subnitidella (Duponchel, 1843), T. The Choleva agilis-group is revised. The three species are redescribed and their zoogeography is discussed. The phylogeny of the three species is hypothesized. Choleva jailensis Jeannel, 1923 and C. agilis clermonti van der Wiel, 1931 are new synonyms of C. agilis (Illiger, 1798). C. lederiana var. brevicollis Krogerus, 1926, is a new synonym of C. lederiana Reitter, 1901. The cavernicolous taxon gracilenta Szymczakowski, 1957, formerly regarded as a subspecies of C. lederiana, is transferred to C. septentrionis Jeannel, 1923. |
