Harmonia axyridis in Chile: a new threat Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Grez,Audrey; Zaviezo,Tania; González,Guillermo; Rothmann,Sergio.
In this work, we document the presence of Harmonia axyridis in Chile, an invasive coccinellid species that has had negative effects in other regions of the world, such as: impacts on non-target arthropods, invasions of houses and fruit damage. This species has been found in the last three years in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions, in crops, pine plantations and inside houses. We warn about the consequences of the introduction of this species to Chile and claim to take actions to avoid its spread in the country.

Predatory capacity of Adalia angulifera (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) larvae on Myzocallis coryli (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in Chile Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Aguilera,Alfonso; Neculmán,Rodrigo; Rebolledo,Ramón.
In La Araucanía, the filbert aphid Myzocallis coryli (Goeze) is a pest that can cause various types of damage to hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) including reduction in nut size and nut emptiness. M. coryli can also leave hazel leaves susceptible to the fungus known as fumagina (Capnodium sp.), which causes decreased photosynthesis, particularly during the period when the tree is storing reserves for the following season. Knowledge about the natural enemies of M. coryli in Chile is in its early stages compared with other countries where the hazelnut crop is more extensive. Indeed, only 13 entomophagous predators have been recorded in La Araucanía thus far, including one Hemerobiidae, one Syrphidae, one Cecidomyiidae and ten Coccinellidae. Of this last...

Alternative plants hosts of legume aphids and predators in the province of León, Spain Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Bertolaccini,Isabel; Núñez-Pérez,Etelvina; Tizado,Emilio Jorge.
The study was done during the spring, summer and fall of 1998 and 1999. Samples were taken at random from legume crops and spontaneous plants adjacent to them in the province of León (Spain). Observations were made on the following crops: Medicago sativa, Phaseolus vulgaris, Pisum sativum, Cicer arietinum, Trifolium repens, Vicia fava, Trifolium pratense, Vicia ervilia, Lathyrus cicera, Lathyrus sativus, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Lupinus albus, Lupinus angustifolius and Lens esculenta. Twenty three families of spontaneous plants were observed. The aphid species and their population densities on the spontaneous plants and crop plants were recorded, as was the presence of members of the families Coccinellidae, Syrphidae and Chrysopidae. The plant families...

The use of actometry and electronic nose devices to assess the locomotor activity of two species of Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Heit,Guillermo; Messina,Valeria; Mareggiani,Graciela; Cohen,Rosa; Carrizo,Paola.
The effect of odor signals on the locomotor activity of Cycloneda sanguinea and Harmonia axyridis was evaluated using two different actometric devices. The purpose of the analysis was to differentiate between the responses elicited by direct contact with the substrates and the responses that occurred if the coccinellids were exposed only to volátiles and had no direct substrate contact. The odor profile of the environmental volátiles (semiochemicals) in the bioassays was analyzed using an electronic nose (Modular Sensor System Moses II). The treatments used included volatiles emitted by pepper leaves (healthy or infested with Myzus persicae), M. persicae molts and honeydew, and healthy leaves treated with an artificial inducer of the systemic acquired...
