A new species, Zanchius stami Van Doesburg (Insecta, Heteroptera, Miridae, Orthotylinae) from Syria, Deir-ez-Zor, is described and illustrated. Late eggs taken from the female abdomen have a peculiar chorionic process. It was found living (predaciously?) on cotton plants. It is compared with the closely related Z. alatanus Hoberlandt, 1956. Type specimens are deposited in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, two paratypes in the Národní Muzeum, Praha. |

Based on distributional data of 40 species of Peiratinae, historical relationships of five Amazonian areas (Paranaense, Atlantic, Pacific, Amazonian, and Cerrado) and two Chacoan areas (Chaco and Caatinga), were investigated through a parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE). The resulting area cladogram indicates the following sequence of area fragmentation: (Cerrado (Caatinga (Chaco, ((Pacific, Amazonian), (Atlantic, Paranaense))))). It is proposed that these results reflect the gradual development of a diagonal of open formations (Chaco-Cerrado-Caatinga), which separated the former continuous tropical forest into two parts, namely, northwestern (Pacific plus Amazonian) and southeastern (Paranaense plus Atlantic). |

The E. cervus-group of Edessa Fabricius, 1803 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae) from South and Central America, is proposed to include the Edessa species with the apices of the long cylindrical humeral angles bifurcated. Three new and three described species are included: Edessa cervus (Fabricius, 1787), Edessa cerastes Breddin, 1905, Edessa elaphus Breddin, 1905, Edessa burmeisteri spec. nov., Edessa peruviana spec. nov., Edessa rondoniensis spec. nov.; their external genital characters and the metasternum of E. burmeisteri are illustrated and their distribution is given. The males of Edessa cerastes Breddin, 1905, and Edessa elaphus Breddin, 1905, which were unknown until now, are described. |

Introduction The purpose of this database is to list all the taxonomic publications on this Superfamily in Sub-Saharan Africa until the year 2000. It is also intended to give an indication of the kind of information contained in each paper. No attempt has been made to change or criticise what authors have written. Instead the intent has been to record accurately the published material. This database does not deal with higher classification, except when the terms are, for clarity, used as part of a recent revision, such as Kumar 1974 on Acanthosomidae. There are eleven groupings within the superfamily and all have been given family status. The treatment of each family varies, depending on the present level of knowledge and whether recent revisions or... |

The E. dolichocera-group of Edessa Fabricius, 1803 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae) is proposed and the species are described, including two new to science. This group includes three South American species: Edessa dolichocera (Lichtenstein, 1795), E. guyanensis spec. nov. and E. nigromaculata spec. nov. E. ductor Walker, 1868 is considered to be a junior synonym of E. dolichocera (Lichtenstein, 1795). The lectotypes of Cimex dilochocerus Lichtenstein, 1795 and of Edessa ductor Walker, 1868, are designated. The habitus, metasternal and external genital characters and the distribution of the three species are described and illustrated. The drawings are from the first author, the photographs are made by the second author. Measurements are given in... |
