The international view of envenoming in Brazil: myths and realities J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Bochner,Rosany.
Being distant from Brazil's great natural diversity, from its long tradition in the study of snakebites and from the fact that it is one of the few countries which has a national information system for monitoring incidents involving venomous animals, non-Brazilian researchers face risks when estimating the incidence of these accidents in the country. The present work offers a critical review of the main estimates undertaken since 1954. It is interesting to note contradictions between textual and graphic information within the same article, variations over time in the work of a same researcher and differences among distinct authors, and that all these issues remain unmentioned or undiscussed. Comparison among such estimates and the data available at the...

The Incidence of Agricultural Subsidies on Farmland Rental Rates: Overcoming Bias From Inertia, Expectations, and Tenancy Arrangements AgEcon
Hendricks, Nathan P.; Janzen, Joseph P.; Dhuyvetter, Kevin C..
Recent studies indicate that the effect of government subsidies on rental rates for farmland may be lower than once thought and lower than predictions from theory. However, there are still a number of unresolved issues in estimating subsidy incidence econometrically. We identify three such issues, inertia, expectations, and tenancy arrangements, and employ panel data from the state of Kansas to resolve them. Our econometric model suggests that subsidy incidence on rental rates is low in the short run, but consistent with predictions from theory in the long run.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Cervical cancer remains an important burden for HIV-infected women in the era of combination antiretroviral therapy. Recommendations for cervical screening in these women diverge and may include high-risk HPV (HRHPV) testing. We aimed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of a single HRHPV testing for cervical screening of HIV-infected women. Methods: 723 HIV-infected women from a Brazilian prospective cohort were included between 1996 and 2012. Inclusion criteria were: normal cervical cytology at baseline and having a HRHPV-test at baseline. We calculated incidence rates of any squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) and high grade SIL+ (HSIL+) and negative predictive values (NPV) within 12 and 36 months. Hazard Ratios were obtained...
