Feeding rate for pacu reared in net cages R. Bras. Zootec.
Hilbig,Cleonice Cristina; Boscolo,Wilson Rogério; Feiden,Aldi; Dieterich,Fabiana; Lorenz,Evandro Kleber; Zaminhan,Micheli.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the feeding management of pacu juveniles (P. mesopotamicus) under different feeding rates and its relation with productive performance, body composition and hematological characteristics. A total of 300 fish with initial weight of 84.75±4.52 g were distributed in a completely randomized design composed of four treatments (100, 90, 80 and 70% of feed supply) and five repetitions. The amount of feed was stipulated according to the quantity supplied in the treatment until apparent satiation (100%) of the day before. The decrease in the feeding rate to 70% over satiation apparently improves the apparent feed conversion without harming performance, body composition or biochemical and hematological characteristics of...

Morphometric increase of tree species submitted to fertilization with swine wastewater Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Pellá, Matheus Galdioli; Araújo, Gabriel Viana de; Cordeiro, Juliano.
Swine is an important exploration of Paraná’s cattle raising, promoting the generation of employment and income in rural areas, however, it generates large amounts of solid and liquid residues. Based on these considerations, the objective of this work was to analyze the development of native tree species submitted to fertilization with swine wastewater. Four native tree species were selected: Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan (Fabaceae), Astronium graveolens Jacq. (Anacardiaceae), Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arráb. ex Steud (Boraginaceae) and Heliocarpus popayanensis Kunth (Malvaceae). The applied doses of wastewater had been of 0, 25 and 50 m3 ha-1. They were applied every two months, adding up a total of 6 applications and the measured morphometric...

Characterization of condensed tannins from native legumes of the Brazilian northeastern semi-arid Scientia Agricola
Guimarães-Beelen,Patrícia Mendes; Berchielli,Telma Teresinha; Beelen,Roger; Araújo Filho,João; Oliveira,Simone Gisele de.
Despite the possible influence of tannins on the nutritional value of the forages from Caatinga vegetation, there are few studies that evaluated their tannin concentration. This study was conducted to characterize condensed tannins present in the legumes species Mimosa hostilis (Jurema Preta), Mimosa caesalpinifolia (Sabiá) and Bauhinia cheilantha (Mororó), at three stages of their phenological cycle. The concentration of soluble tannin (ST), bound tannin (BT) and total tannin (TT) were determined using the butanol-HCL method; astringency was by the radial diffusion method, and the monomeric composition of purified tannins by a high-performance liquid chromatograph with delphinidin, cyanidin and pelargonidin as standards. Concentration and astringency of...

Seed germination and dormancy break in Eragrostis polytricha, a native Brazilian grass species with potential for recovery of degraded lands Acta Botanica
Saraiva,Diogo F.; Paula,Cláudio C. de; Moraes,Paulo José de; Vinícius-Silva,Ronaldo; Silva,Mariana M.; Dias,Denise C.F.S.; Botelho,Soraya A..
ABSTRACT Ferruginous Rocky Outcrops have high levels of species richness and endemism, but have been threatened by several anthropic actions, especially mining. Eragrostis polytricha, a common grass species in the vegetation of these outcrops, has shown promising features for use in the recovery of mining areas. However, in order to fully understand the species’ potential for such use, its requirements for germination, seed dormancy break and seedling development must be determined. Thus, we aimed to: (1) assess the temperature conditions needed for seeds of E. polytricha to germinate; (2) evaluate the effects of KNO₃ in breaking seed dormancy; and (3) analyze the germination efficiency of seeds that are still in spikelets. The experiment included seven...

Santos, Paulo Augusto Almeida; Paiva, Renato; Silva, Luciano Coutinho; Souza, Ana Cristina de; Santana, Marlucia Cruz de; Silva, Diogo Pedrosa Corrêa da.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of vitrification and droplet vitrification for the cryopreservation of Hancornia speciosa shoot tips. The shoot tips were subjected to four different periods of exposure (15, 30, 45 and 60 min.) to plant vitrification solution 2 (PVS2) before plunging into liquid nitrogen. We evaluated the regrowth of H. speciosa shoot tips that were cryopreserved by the classical vitrification technique and by the droplet vitrification technique. Shoot tips were submitted to different periods of pre-culture (absence, 24 or 48h) in a medium containing 0.3 M sucrose prior to cryopreservation. With a PVS2 exposure period of 60 min., significant differences were observed between the two techniques used in this study with...

Fruits of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest: allying biodiversity conservation and food security Anais da ABC (AABC)
SOUZA,ROBERTA G. DE; DAN,MAURÍCIO L.; DIAS-GUIMARÃES,MARISTELA A.; GUIMARÃES,LORENA A.O.P.; BRAGA,JOÃO MARCELO A..
Abstract Supplying food to growing human populations without depleting natural resources is a challenge for modern human societies. Considering this, the present study has addressed the use of native arboreal species as sources of food for rural populations in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The aim was to reveal species composition of edible plants, as well as to evaluate the practices used to manage and conserve them. Ethnobotanical indices show the importance of many native trees as local sources of fruits while highlighting the preponderance of the Myrtaceae family. Conservation analysis allowed to identify Campomanesia hirsuta Gardner and Plinia edulis (Vell.) Sobral as being of high Biological Value and Conservation Priority. In spite of that, the...

A contribution to the identification of charcoal origin in Brazil II - Macroscopic characterization of Cerrado species Anais da ABC (AABC)
GONÇALVES,THAÍS A.P.; NISGOSKI,SILVANA; OLIVEIRA,JULIA S.; MARCATI,CARMEN R.; BALLARIN,ADRIANO W.; MUÑIZ,GRACIELA I.B..
The Brazilian Cerrado is the richest savanna in the world. It is also one of the biomes more threatened in the country and a hotspot for conservation priorities. The main causes of deforestation in Cerrado are agricultural practices, livestock and charcoal production. Although charcoal has a minor impact, its consumption represents the deforestation of 16.000 Km² of the Cerrado. To contribute for the biomes's conservation it is very important to improve forestry supervision. Thus, in this work we present the macroscopic characterization of charcoal from 25 Cerrado's species. We simulate the real conditions of forest controllers by using the magnifications of 10x, 25x and 65x. Likewise, the charcoals micrographs are all of transverse sections due to the...

A 4-component sex pheromone of the Chilean fruit leaf roller Proeulia auraria (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Reyes-Garcia,Luis; Cuevas,Yuri; Ballesteros,Carolina; Curkovic,Tomislav; Löfstedt,Christer; Bergmann,Jan.
L. Reyes-Garcia, Y. Cuevas, C. Ballesteros, T. Curkovic, C. Löfstedt, and J. Bergmann. 2014. A 4-component sex pheromone of the Chilean fruit leaf roller Proeulia auraria (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). Cien. Inv. Agr. 41(2):187-196. The Chilean fruit leaf roller Proeulia auraria is a pest of economically important fruit species. Two compounds attractive to males have been identified as (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc) and (E)-11-tetradecenol (E11-14:OH) and are currently being used in Chile to monitor this species. Preliminary experiments carried out by our group suggested that the 2-compound mixture might not be optimal for the attraction of males, which prompted us to reinvestigate the sex pheromone of P. auraria in the present study. The pheromone...

Vitamin C and total phenols quantification in calli of native passion fruit induced by combinations of Picloram and Kinetin Ciência Rural
Artioli-Coelho,Fabiane Aparecida; Paiva,Renato; Silva,Luciano Coutinho; Barbosa,Sandro; Beijo,Luiz Alberto.
Brazil is one of the center of origin of passion fruit and has an important natural variability of the genus Passiflora. Several wild species of this genus are resistant to some pests and diseases and many are considered as medicinal. The aim of this research was to induce callus from in vitro Passiflora gibertiileaf explants for quantification of vitamin C and total phenols. Once the appropriate auxin/cytokine balance promotes callus formation and may optimize the production of secondary compounds and vitamins, calli were induced using a half-strength MS medium with a combination of the auxin Picloran (PIC) and the cytokine Kinetin (KIN). The vitamin C and total phenols were quantified by colorimetric methods from calli after different culture periods....
