Viana,Bruno Leal; Mello,Alexandre Carneiro Leão de; Guim,Adriana; Lira,Mário de Andrade; Dubeux Júnior,José Carlos Batista; Santos,Mércia Virgínia Ferreira dos; Cunha,Márcio Vieira da.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to characterize morphologically elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) genotypes and to estimate their proportions of leaf blade tissues under grazing. Two tall varieties (Elephant B and IRI-381) and three short ones (Mott, Taiwan A-146 2.37, and Taiwan A-146 2.114) were evaluated under intermittent sheep grazing as to the following morphological characteristics: plant height, internode length, and leaf blade/culm ratio. Moreover, the proportions of the following leaf blade tissues were estimated: sclerenchyma, adaxial and abaxial epidermis, bulliform cells, vascular bundles, phloem, vascular sheath, xylem, and mesophyll. The short varieties were 28.6% shorter than the tall ones and showed higher leaf blade/culm...

Phytosociology in Degraded and Renewed Pastures in Agrosilvopastoral Systems Planta Daninha
DIAS,R.C.; SANTOS,M.V.; FERREIRA,E.A.; BRAZ,T.G.S; FIGUEIREDO,L.V.; CRUZ,P.J.R.; SILVA,L.D..
ABSTRACT: In pastures, the incidence of weeds reduces the productivity and quality of forage. The identification of the weed species in pastures is fundamental to choose the renewal method. Thus, the objective of this work was to perform phytosociology before and after the renewal of a Brachiaria decumbens pasture, with the implantation of agrosilvopastoral systems. Eighteen different crop arrangements for pasture renewal were evaluated. The renewal systems were by eucalyptus integration (at 12 x 2 m or 12 x 3 m spacings) with maize, Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu (palisade grass) and/or Macrotyloma axillare (perennial horsegram), or monoculture and intercropping of palisade grass and perennial horsegram, as well as the evaluation of the application or...

Inter-relation between soybean yield and soil compaction under degraded pasture in Brazilian Savannah Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Queiroz,Rienni de Paula; Lazarini,Edson; Santos,Marcio Lustosa; Carvalho,Morel de Passos e; Santos,Cristiano.
The Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah) plays an important economic and financial role in the nation, since the pastures of this biome feed cattle for half of the domestic bovine meat productivity, and its agricultural fields produce a third of the country's grain. The variability and spatial dependence between the soil physical attributes and soybean yield were evaluated in a crop rotation planted on a degraded brachiaria pasture, on a dystroferric Red Latosol of an experimental farm of the State University of São Paulo (UNESP), in the 2005/2006 growing season. The linear and spatial correlations between these attributes were also studied, to determine conditions that would allow increased agricultural productivity. In the above pasture area, a grid was...

Forage yield and nutritive value of Tanzania grass under nitrogen supplies and plant densities R. Bras. Zootec.
Freitas,Fabrício Paiva de; Fonseca,Dilermando Miranda da; Braz,Thiago Gomes dos Santos; Martuscello,Janaina Azevedo; Santos,Manoel Eduardo Rozalino.
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the nitrogen and plant density influence on the yield, forage dissection and nutritive value of Tanzania grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.). The design was of completely randomized blocks with three replications in a factorial arrangement with four nitrogen levels (0, 80, 160 or 320 kg/ha N) and three plant densities (9, 25 or 49 plants/m²). The plots were cut at 25 cm from soil level when the canopy reached 95% of light interception. The total dry matter forage yield and dry matter forage yield per harvest increased linearly with the nitrogen fertilization. The leaf and stem yield had the same response. The senesced forage yield was quadratically influenced by the nitrogen. The stems ratio in the morphologic...
