The genus Blumeodendron (Euphorbiaceae) comprises nine species and is distributed from the Andaman Islands and Myanmar in the west through Malesia to the Bismarck Archipelago in the east. Two species are newly described, B. gesinus, with ridged fruits, and B. endocarpum, with a thickened endocarp around each seed. Three former synonyms, B. novoguineense (new name for Bennettia papuanum), B. philippinense and B. subrotundifolium, are reinstated as species. Two important characters were newly discovered, the presence of small lepidote hairs in all species and the indehiscent fruit of B. endocarpum |

The Pterophoridae (Ochyroticinae, Deuterocopinae, Pterophorinae (Tribus: Platyptiliini, Exelastini, Oxyptilini)) species of the Neotropical fauna are reviewed. The species are redescribed. Moths are illustrated in colour for the first time, their genitalia are illustrated in line drawings. The examination of type specimens revealed the presence of four new synonyms: Platyptilia juanvinas Gielis, 1999, is a junior synonym of Platyptilia gravior Meyrick, 1932; Platyptilia jonesi Gielis, 1996, is a junior synonym of Platyptilia semnopis Meyrick, 1931; Oxyptilus maleficus Meyrick, 1926, is a junior synonym of Leptodeuterocopus neales (Walsingham, 1915); Lioptilus parvus Walsingham, 1880, is a junior synonym of Lioptilodes albistriolatus (Zeller, 1871). The main aim of the present paper is to delimit ‘true’ Spermophora, i.e. the group of species most closely related to the type species S. senoculata (Dugès). Apart from the type species, only three previously described species are included in this core group (S. estebani Simon, S. paluma Huber, S. yao Huber), together with nine newly described species: S. kerinci, S. tumbang, S. dumoga, S. maros, S. deelemanae, S. palau, S. kaindi, S. luzonica, and S. sumbawa. Except for the Holarctic and anthropophilic type species, all species have limited distributions in Southeast Asia, northeastern Australia, and the Pacific Islands, where they inhabit the leaf litter layer of tropical forests as well as caves. A tight correlation is documented in Spermophora between... |

A revision of the genus Phaeanthus Hook.f. & Thomson (Annonaceae) is presented. The genus comprises 8 species. A key to the fruiting and/or flowering specimens of the genus is included. The genus consists of shrubs to small-sized trees from Malesia and Vietnam. It is characterised by sepals and outer petals that are alike, numerous carpels and stamens, the latter truncate with a distinctive connective prolongation, monocarpous fruits, and leaves often drying dark brown to black. A phylogenetic analysis shows the monophyly of the genus and that Phaeanthus nutans can be considered the sister species of the remaining species. |

A revision is given of the 16 recognized South American species of the New World genus Aphylla Selys. Three new species are described and figured, viz. A. scapula (♂ holotype; Brazil, Territorio de Rondônia, Fazenda Rancho Grande), A. silvatica (♂ holotype: Ecuador, Provincia Napo, Limoncocha) and A. spinula (♂ holotype: Perú, Departamento de Cuzco, Río Urubamba). A. obscura (Kirby, 1899) and A. albinensis Belle, 1970, are considered junior synonyms of A. tenuis Selys, 1859, and A. brevipes Selys, 1854, respectively, while A. simulata Belle, 1964, is considered a synonym of A. dentata Selys, 1859. Separate identification keys to the males and the females of the South American species of Aphylla are provided. |

The monophyletic genus Melastoma (Melastomataceae) is centred in Southeast Asia, but extends to India, South China, Japan, northern Australia, and Oceania. It comprises 22 species, two subspecies, and three varieties. Two new species, Melastoma sabahense and M. minahassae, and a new variety, M. sanguineum var. ranauensis, are described; two species are reduced to subspecies and variety, respectively, and the genus Otanthera is transferred to Melastoma. In many species, especially M. malabathricum, morphological characters vary locally, which resulted in the taxonomic recognition of numerous geographically restricted entities here considered synonyms. Most species of Melastoma are pioneers with a high dispersal capacity. This may have resulted in small,... |

In this publication a revision is given of the genera of the subfamily Bulimulinae (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Bulimulidae). The morphological variation of the shell, radula, pallial organs and genitalia is analized and 21 character transition series are recognized. In the systematical part the following data are presented for each genus : description of shell and anatomy, distribution, ecology, bibliography and a list of taxa. The number of (sub) genera is reduced from 80 to 43 ( + two nomina inquirenda). A new synonymy is : Paracochlea Hylton Scott, 1967 = Eudioptus Albers, 1860. The following new species names are introduced : Bostryx sophieae, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) marcapatensis, Drymaeus (Drymaeus) sophieae, Drymaeus (Mesembrinus) pseudobesus. Berendtia... |

The genus Actephila (Phyllanthaceae) is distributed from India in the north-west to Thailand and via Malesia to the Melanesian Islands and Australia in the south-east. Eleven species are recognized of which three are newly described, A. discoidea with long leaf apices and a fleshy nectar discs, A. emarginata with an emarginate leaf base, and A. stipularis with large stipules. Further, A. javanica is synonymized with A. excelsa; and a former synonym or separate variety, A. excelsa var. acuminata, is recognized as distinct species, but had to be synonymized under A. subsessilis. Actephila puberula, not present in Malesia, but often synonymized with A. excelsa, is kept separate because of the hairy ovary and different base of the leaf blades. |

ABSTRACT The species Rhamdia branneri Haseman, 1911 and the subspecies Rhamdia branneri voulezi Haseman, 1911 from rio Iguaçu are currently recognized as synonyms of Rhamdia quelen (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824). However, recent karyotype and ecomorphology studies distinguish R. branneri and R. voulezi as different species. Examination of Rhamdia populations from rio Iguaçu, including type specimens, together with other congeners from rio Tibagi, allowed to properly reexamine the situation of these Haseman's taxa and references given to Rhamdia in the Iguaçu. The species R. branneri and R. voulezi have strong serrae with large basis on both margins of the pectoral-fin spine, uncommon in the remaining species of Rhamdia and different from the fine serrate... |
