Notes on the genus Pirdana Distant, 1886 (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) Naturalis
Jong, R. de; Treadaway, C.G..
In the Oriental genus Pirdana Distant, 1886, the new species P. fusca is described from Samar (E Philippines). The phylogeny of the genus is discussed and as a consequence the endemic Sulawesi taxon P. hyela ismene (Felder & Felder, [1867]) is given back its species rank, bringing the total number of species in the genus to five. A key to the species is added.

Taxonomy, Phylogeny and Biogeography of Mushroom Corals (Scleractinia: Fungiidae) Naturalis
Hoeksema, B.W..
The Fungiidae are mushroom corals that live in sublittoral habitats in the tropical Indo-Pacific. Their habitats are part of coral reefs or other marine substrata, which usually can be found in the proximity of the reefs. In the present taxonomic revision, the family is divided into 11 genera; one of which, Fungia, is subdivided into seven subgenera. A total of 40 species is described and figured, three of which are new to science. One species is renamed. The stratigraphic distribution is given for all the species recorded in fossil state. A tentative phylogenetic reconstruction down to the species level is given. The cladogram that is provided should be considered a working hypothesis and not a sound basis for a completely revised classification and...

Revision of the genus Spermophora Hentz in Southeast Asia and on the Pacific Islands, with descriptions of three new genera (Araneae: Pholcidae) Naturalis
Huber, B.A..
The main aim of the present paper is to delimit ‘true’ Spermophora, i.e. the group of species most closely related to the type species S. senoculata (Dugès). Apart from the type species, only three previously described species are included in this core group (S. estebani Simon, S. paluma Huber, S. yao Huber), together with nine newly described species: S. kerinci, S. tumbang, S. dumoga, S. maros, S. deelemanae, S. palau, S. kaindi, S. luzonica, and S. sumbawa. Except for the Holarctic and anthropophilic type species, all species have limited distributions in Southeast Asia, northeastern Australia, and the Pacific Islands, where they inhabit the leaf litter layer of tropical forests as well as caves. A tight correlation is documented in Spermophora between...

Revision of the genus Phaeanthus (Annonaceae) Naturalis
Mols, J.B.; Keßler, P.J.A..
A revision of the genus Phaeanthus Hook.f. & Thomson (Annonaceae) is presented. The genus comprises 8 species. A key to the fruiting and/or flowering specimens of the genus is included. The genus consists of shrubs to small-sized trees from Malesia and Vietnam. It is characterised by sepals and outer petals that are alike, numerous carpels and stamens, the latter truncate with a distinctive connective prolongation, monocarpous fruits, and leaves often drying dark brown to black. A phylogenetic analysis shows the monophyly of the genus and that Phaeanthus nutans can be considered the sister species of the remaining species.

Revision of the Southeast Asian genus Melastoma (Melastomataceae) Naturalis
Meyer, Karsten.
The monophyletic genus Melastoma (Melastomataceae) is centred in Southeast Asia, but extends to India, South China, Japan, northern Australia, and Oceania. It comprises 22 species, two subspecies, and three varieties. Two new species, Melastoma sabahense and M. minahassae, and a new variety, M. sanguineum var. ranauensis, are described; two species are reduced to subspecies and variety, respectively, and the genus Otanthera is transferred to Melastoma. In many species, especially M. malabathricum, morphological characters vary locally, which resulted in the taxonomic recognition of numerous geographically restricted entities here considered synonyms. Most species of Melastoma are pioneers with a high dispersal capacity. This may have resulted in small,...

A revision of the genus Actephila (Phyllanthaceae) in the Malesian region Naturalis
Heijkoop, M.; Welzen, P.C. van.
The genus Actephila (Phyllanthaceae) is distributed from India in the north-west to Thailand and via Malesia to the Melanesian Islands and Australia in the south-east. Eleven species are recognized of which three are newly described, A. discoidea with long leaf apices and a fleshy nectar discs, A. emarginata with an emarginate leaf base, and A. stipularis with large stipules. Further, A. javanica is synonymized with A. excelsa; and a former synonym or separate variety, A. excelsa var. acuminata, is recognized as distinct species, but had to be synonymized under A. subsessilis. Actephila puberula, not present in Malesia, but often synonymized with A. excelsa, is kept separate because of the hairy ovary and different base of the leaf blades.

Reappraisal of Rhamdia branneri Haseman, 1911 and R. voulezi Haseman, 1911 (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) from the rio Iguaçu with notes on their morphometry and karyotype Neotropical Ichthyology
Garavello,Julio Cesar; Shibatta,Oscar Akio.
ABSTRACT The species Rhamdia branneri Haseman, 1911 and the subspecies Rhamdia branneri voulezi Haseman, 1911 from rio Iguaçu are currently recognized as synonyms of Rhamdia quelen (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824). However, recent karyotype and ecomorphology studies distinguish R. branneri and R. voulezi as different species. Examination of Rhamdia populations from rio Iguaçu, including type specimens, together with other congeners from rio Tibagi, allowed to properly reexamine the situation of these Haseman's taxa and references given to Rhamdia in the Iguaçu. The species R. branneri and R. voulezi have strong serrae with large basis on both margins of the pectoral-fin spine, uncommon in the remaining species of Rhamdia and different from the fine serrate...
