Japanese clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) and European clam (Ruditapes decussates) farming based on spat produced in hatcheries has gone beyond the experimental stage on the Atlantic coasts since the research of Latrouite et Claude (1976), Lucas (1977), Flassch (1979), Dréno (1979) and Gras (soon to be published). It has thus become necessary to develop farming procedures reliable enough to be handed over to the professionals in the business.

Induced triploidy in the European clam, Ruditapes decussatus (L.) and performance of triploid larvae ArchiMer

For the first time, effective treatments using cytochalasin B were developed to induce triploidy in the European clam, Ruditapes decussatus (L.). The percentage of triploid embrios was assessed by karyological or image analysis. Two treatments (O.5 or 1 mg of cytochasin B (CB per ml of dimethylsulfoxide in 1 l of sea water) were applied at different times after fertilization (10 to 25 mn), for two different periods (15 and 20 min). Best results were obtained for a CB concentration of 1 mg/l. When treatment was applied 15 min after fertilization for a 20 min period, 94% and 95% of triploid embryos were obtained in two repeated experiments. On French coast, Manila clam is a bivalve subject of a large activity recreational and professional hand harvest. Two species are represented in France, European Manila clam Ruditapes decussatus (native) and Japanese Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum (introduced). Predominance of this last species (more than 90 % of number and biomass), earn them the status of invasive species. Contrary to Arcachon bay, Pont l’Abbé River or Morbihan bay, an estimation campaign of Manila clams stock on Marennes-Oléron bay had never been carried out. Dans le cadre du Réseau zoosanitaires CEE (huître plate) et suivi d'autres espèces, 890 individus provenant des zones 5, 6 et 7 ont été examinés sur l'ensemble de l'année 1995 par différentes techniques : 472 analyses sous coupes histologiques, 328 analyses sur appositions d'organes, 90 analyses sur milieu au thioglycolate.

The reproductive cycle of the European clam Ruditapes decussatus (L., 1758) in two Portuguese populations: Implications for management and aquaculture programs ArchiMer

The reproductive cycle, as well as its nutrient storage and utilization, of two populations of Ruditapes decussatus from the main production areas of this species: Ria de Aveiro and Ria Formosa Lagoon (Portugal) were studied here over a 24 month period (May 2010-April 2012). The reproductive cycle of both populations of R. decussatus followed an annual cyclicality that comprised a ripe stage in spring followed by a spawning period that began in late spring and extended throughout summer until early autumn. This extended and continuous spawning period may be an advantageous strategy for this species by ensuring a continuous supply of gametes. First rearing attempts with the european clams Ruditapes decussatus, the pacific clams Ruditapes philippinarum and the clam Mercenaria mercenaria have been realized by placing the bood into grating cages above the ground. This technic permits a good survival during the so-called "pre-growth" stage. However, if rearing of juveniles is persued beyond 2 centimeters, growth is strongly delayed and mortality increases due to valve distortion and shell infection by parasitic worms.

Ultrastructural study of sporulated instars of a haplosporidian parasitizing the clam Ruditapes decussatus ArchiMer

In 1951, Vilela pointed out the presence of a haplosporidian parasitizing Ruditapes decussatus from Portuguese waters and created the species Haplosporidium tapetis. Later, a haplosporidian was found in the same species originating from the pound of Thau (France).

On the contrary to the U. S. where they represent but 4.6% of the total marine production , mollusc, principally bivalves, can no longer be considered as a marginal production. In France, 100 000 ton of oysters, 98% of which is represented by Crassostrea gigas (Héral & al., 1985) and 85 000 ton of mussels (Mytilus edulis, Mytilus edulis galloprovincialis) (Dardignac, 1985) are produced yeraly. Ecologie du copépode calanoïde Paracartia grani. Implication dans le cycle de vie du parasite Marteilia refringens dans la lagune de Thau ArchiMer

In this study, the life cycle of Paracartia grani, a calalloid copepod belonging to the Acartiidae family was determined in Thau lagoon. Indeed, the copepod involvement in the life cycle of the parasite Marteilia refringens affecting the bivalve productions is suspected. Mesozooplanktonic community .was monitored twice a month. over two years at a fixed station in the lagoon. Sampling has identified P. grani as the acartiid dominant species in summer. From April to January, the copepod is found in the water column while from February to early April it remains in the sediment as diapausing eggs. Perturbations observées chez la palourde "Ruditapes decussatus" et la datte de mer "Lithophaga lithophaga" collect"es au nord de la Tunisie OceanDocs

La présente étude a porté sur une anomalie morphologique observée chez la palourde européenne Ruditapes decussatus collectée dans le lac nord de Tunis et des perturbations coquillières relevées chez la datte de mer Lithophaga lithophaga prélevée dans la baie de Bizerte. L’examen de la partie molle et de la coquille de ces deux espèces de bivalves a révélé une malformation chez la palourde européenne qui consiste en la différenciation de deux siphons inhalant et exhalant surnuméraires prenant naissance des deux siphons habituels, complètement séparés, inhalant et exhalant. Les siphons en forme de Y possèdent ainsi 4 ouvertures fonctionnelles au lieu de 2. Chez la datte de mer Lithophaga lithophaga, nous avons relevé la présence de perturbations...

Recherche par « RT-PCR » des virus enteriques chez des moules (<Mytilus galloprovincialis>) et des palourdes (<Ruditapes decussatus>) OceanDocs

Dans cette étude comparative, deux méthodes d'extraction de quatre types de virus entériques pathogènes pour l’homme (virus de l’hépatite A, l’astrovirus, le norovirus et l’entérovirus) contaminant des moules (Mytilus galloprovincialis) et des palourdes (Ruditapes decussatus) ont été évaluées par l’application de la technique « Perverse Transcriptase- Polymerase Chain Reaction : RT-PCR ».
