The Underwater Vision Profiler (UVP) was developed to quantify the vertical distribution of macroscopic particles and zooplankton > 100 mu m in size. The smaller size limit is fixed by optical resolution, whereas the larger size limit is determined by the volume of water illuminated per image. The new fifth generation instrument (UVP5) is compact (30 kg in air) and operates either as a stand-alone instrument with an independent power supply for use on a mooring or free-drifting array, or as a component of a Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD)-rosette package. Images are recorded at a frequency up to 6 Hz. If the UVP5 is interfaced with a CTD, these images are acquired and analyzed in real time. Images are recorded every 20 cm at the 1 m s(-1)... |

The purpose of the Project System Improvement and Innovation Strategy is to ensure regular and frequent improvement and innovation of the design, leadership and performance of the project system and its component elements, and to manage the interaction between the project system and the broader meta-system. The importance of this strategy has become more apparent over the past year. Initially it was treated as a 'supporting' strategy, but with time, recognition of its importance is growing. This strategy will require greater ingenuity and attention over the next two years to ensure project success, efficiency and sustainability. |

The Beef CRC's 'Sustainable Beef Profit Partnerships' (BPP) project is built around the Sustainable Improvement and Innovation (SI&I) Model – a model for the design, leadership and management of projects to achieve rapid and sustained improvement and innovation, and accelerated adoption. The model is implemented through a systemic approach to project design, and the development of a number of integrated strategies to guide the targeting of priority outcomes and work plans. The emphasis is on a sustainable project methodology such that the intended outcomes can continue to be delivered long after the Beef CRC funding is terminated. Further, there is an emphasis on rapid implementation of the process in the short-term such that outcomes can be generated... |

The eucalyptus plantations constitute a major segment of the Agribusiness System of Forestry in Mato Grosso do Sul, thus, this study has focused primarily examine the competitiveness of this segment by applying a quantitative methodology for analyzing economic results called Quasi-Income, stating ultimately its competitiveness. Moreover, to capture the information held visiting the institutional actors directly connected to the system, which also allowed the identification of strengths – such as a favorable climate, large areas for forest planting , policy environment, wellstructured and very active, new arrivals agents that complement the chains, rates of return and profitability positive; and negative – failing infrastructure for disposal of raw... |

Article 22 of the Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU) of the WTO offers, as last resort countermeasures, withdrawal of the concessions the state parties had agreed to in their schedules of commitments. The problem is that such a withdrawal of concessions would have very little impact on the economy and consequently on the behaviour of the respondent state if that party happened to be a developed state vis-à-vis a small, developing country. To deal with this situation a remedy of “collective countermeasures”, contained in Article 54 of the Draft Articles on State Responsibility of the International Law Commission (ILC), has been proposed; it has been argued that this remedy should apply, as a general principle of public international law, as a last... |

The significance of a break-even point analysis is much important to the small- scale enterprises in determining profit or loss incurred. In this study, a case study approach was used to test this concept on iru production using structured oral interviews and visual observation of a production centre in Nigeria. Data analysis was achieved using production cost, the unit quantity and break-even point analysis. The results show that the monthly average cost of N 32,237.00, the monthly average variable cost of N71,334.00, Contribution Margin Ratio of 47.06 % and break-even sales of N 68,502.00 were obtained using a traditional method of iru production (TIPP). In a mechanized method (MIPP), monthly average fixed cost of N 85,887.00, the monthly average... |
