Root anatomical traits, which include cortical area, aerenchyma area, and xylem features, influence the absorption and translocation of water and nutrients, oxygen transport and the mechanical strength of the root system. While a number of studies have shown promising functional benefits of anatomical root traits in conferring resource acquisition efficiency, very little is known about the genetic mechanisms underlying natural phenotypic variation of these traits. In this study, we evaluated 336 Oryza sativa accessions selected from the rice diversity panel for 4 root anatomical traits including, root cross-section area, aerenchyma, and xylem features in well-controlled greenhouse environment. Considerable phenotypic variation was observed in all root... |

Integrated pest management trials were conducted in order to test pest management practices in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla provinces during 2011-2013 wet seasons. The data on population of insect pests, natural enemies, percent damage of diseases, percent damage of animal pests, weed species with wet weight, grain yield per rai, input costs, price of paddy and net benefit were collected comparing to the farmers’ practice trials. The results showed that the integrated pest management trials having more natural enemies than the farmers’ practice trials. The major pests were rice thrips, green leafhoppers, rice leaf-folder, zigzag planthopper, whitebacked planthopper, rice bug. Rice diseases found were blast and brown spot. The animal... |

Study about the accordance of rice insect pests from the light trap and the research data of insects in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 (weak) and that of SuphanBuri 1 (resistant) was conducted from the year 2011 to 2013 at the Chiang Rai Rice Research Center. It’s found that the rice insect pests entrapped by the light trap being increased from the year 2007 to 2010. That in May, 2011, 4,779 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found; in March, 2012, 19,248 whitebacked planthoppers were mostly found and; in May, 2013, 19,047 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found. In the paddy field, rice insect pests were found in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 more than that of Suphan Buri 1. In the In-season rice of the year 2011, the White backed planthoppers were mostly... |
