Transcriptional responses of Rosa rugosa to salt stress and salt shock Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Reis,Michele Valquíria dos; Rouhana,Laura Vaughn; Paiva,Patrícia Duarte de Oliveira; Silva,Diogo Pedrosa Correia da; Paiva,Renato; Korban,Schuyler.
ABSTRACT Rugosa rugosa has high tolerance to various stresses; however, the molecular mechanisms of this behavior under adverse conditions are unclear. The objective of this study is to investigate expression patterns of stress-related genes in response to salinity stress. Changes in transcript levels of R. rugose, grown under different salt stress conditions (0, 25, 50, and 100 mM NaCl) over a long exposure period (30 days), have been investigated. In addition, the effects of salt shock stress on seedlings exposed to a high level (200 mM) of NaCl for a relatively short duration (3 h) have also been investigated. Expression levels of selected differentially expressed genes have been determined using relative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction...

Does the substrate affect the germination of soybean seeds treated with phytosanitary products? Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Rocha,Debora Kelli; Carvalho,Everson Reis; Pires,Raquel Maria de Oliveira; Santos,Heloisa Oliveira dos; Penido,Amanda Carvalho; Andrade,Dayliane Bernardes de.
ABSTRACT The use of an appropriate method that accurately expresses physiological seed quality and minimizes possible phytotoxicity by chemical products in laboratory testing with soybean seeds is relevant. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence and infer the method adequacy for the representative evaluation of physiological quality of soybean seeds treated with phytosanitary products. Two experiments were carried out in a completely randomized design, with trial 1 in a 9×5 factorial scheme involving nine seed treatments, including fungicides and insecticides, and solutions with five osmotic potentials (0, -0.25, -0.5, -0.75 and -1.0 MPa) for wetting a paper substrate in a germination experiment, with evaluation of the normal seedlings at...

Nutritional status and physiological parameters of maize cultivated with sewage sludge Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Moreira,Rodrigo Santos; Lense,Guilherme Henrique Expedito; Fávero,Leonardo Ferreira; Oliveira Junior,Benedito Majela de; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT The use of sewage sludge as a source of nutrients and organic matter for agricultural soils is a well-established practice. However, few reports highlight the effect of the nutrients and potentially toxic elements provided by organic wastes application on the plant physiological parameters, such as photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductivity. We performed a greenhouse experiment with maize exposed to a dystrophic red Latosol amended with mineral fertilizer and different rates of sewage sludge with the following objectives: i) assess the nutrients and metal uptake translocation and distribution in plants and ii) evaluate the relationship between plant physiological parameters and yield indicators under the study conditions. The application of...

Correcting field determination of elemental contents in soils via portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometry Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Dijair,Thaís Santos Branco; Silva,Fernanda Magno; Teixeira,Anita Fernanda dos Santos; Silva,Sérgio Henrique Godinho; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Curi,Nilton.
ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been useful worldwide for determining soil elemental content under both field and laboratory conditions. However, the field results are influenced by several factors, including soil moisture (M), soil texture (T) and soil organic matter (SOM). Thus, the objective of this work was to create linear mathematical models for conversion of Al2O3, CaO, Fe, K2O, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr contents obtained by pXRF directly in field to those obtained under laboratory conditions, i.e., in air-dried fine earth (ADFE), using M, T and SOM as auxiliary variables, since they influence pXRF results. pXRF analyses in field were performed on 12 soil profiles with different parent materials. From them, 59 samples were...

Use of buffer methods to estimate the potential acidity of Mato Grosso soils Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Prado,Marcelo Ribeiro Vilela; Moraes,Milton Ferreira de; Ramos,Fabrício Tomaz; Santos,Carlos Leandro Rodrigues do; Campos,David Vilas Boas de; Barros,Gisele Teixeira.
ABSTRACT Mato Grosso, with a total area of 903357 km², does not have an official methodology for estimating soil potential acidity (H + Al), and determination of H + Al using the standard method is onerous and time consuming. The objective of this study was to compare estimated values of H + Al determined using the standard calcium acetate method with those obtained using three buffer methods, namely, the Shoemaker, McLean, and Pratt (SMP) buffer, Sikora buffer, and Santa Maria buffer (SMB) methods, with samples of the main classes of cultivated soils in the state of Mato Grosso. A total of 196 soil samples were collected from the arable layer (0-20 cm) in agropastoral and adjacent native systems. Statistical models were obtained and compared with models...
