Ostréographie sur parc ArchiMer

Lors de travaux antérieurs, en nous inspirant principalement des résultats de Galtzoff chez Crassostrea virginica nous avons mis en évidence l'importance de l'activité larvaire chez l'huître au cours d'études expérimentales chez Crassostrea angulata et plus récemment chez C. gigas. C'est ainsi que nous avons mis au point et utilisé en laboratoire un dispositif simple qui nous a permis de rechercher les limites de tolérance de l'huître portugaise à la salinité, ou d'étudier son comportement en milieu confiné, avec dans ce dernier cas, description des symptômes d'intoxication. De même nous avons pu enregistrer sur notre appareillage les myogrammes particuliers qui accompagnent l'émission des produits sexuels.

La reproduction de Crassostrea gigas Thunberg dans le bassin d'Arcachon: bilan de deux années d'observations ArchiMer

A la suite des mortalités massives qui avaient affecté la population de C. angulata Lmk dès le premier trimestre 1971 dans le bassin d'Arcachon, la décision fut prise de renforcer rapidement le stock des géniteurs de C. gigas, susceptible d'assurer dès l'été une récolte de naissains et de permettre dans l'avenir une reconstitution des gisements naturels anéantis. En effet la présence sur les collecteurs immergés au cours de l'été 1970 de quelques sujets de l'espèce nouvellement introduite prouvait la possibilité pour les huîtres japonaises de se reproduire dans nos eaux.

Contribution à l'étude de la qualité des eaux de rejet agricoles dans les marais charentais ArchiMer

The agricultural fresh water swamp of Moëze-Brouage, in Charente-Maritime, witnesses the replacement of cattle rearing in the grasslands by intensive farming affecting the quality of waste waters flowing into the ocean. The proximity of the oyster culture basin of Marennes-Oléron and of the ponds lead to the implementation of some ecotoxicological tests, which turned out to be largely positive on some of the swamp's outlets, with negative effects on the tested organisms.

Monitoring fresh and brackish water quality around shellfish farming areas with a bivalve embryo and larva simplified bioassay method ArchiMer

The standard bivalve embryos-larval bioassay method has been modified for monitoring the water quality in an important mussel culture area, La Rochelle Bay. Fertilised eggs from naturally spawned Mytilus galloprovincialis mussels were incubated for 48 h at 18 ± 1 degree C, in different water samples (five replicates) from the bay and its surroundings. The mean percentages of abnormalities, with the 95 % confidence limit, of controls and different water samples were compared. The method was shown to allow the application of the the bioassay to fresh, brackish and marine waters. Le marais doux agricole de Moëze-Brouage, en Charente-Maritime, voit se développer les cultures intensives à la place de l'élevage sur prairies affectant la qualité des eaux de rejet vers le milieu marin. La proximité du bassin ostréicole de Marennes-Oléron et des claies a conduit à mettre en oeuvre des tests écotoxicologiques, lesquels sont largement positifs sur certains exutoires du marais, induisant des effets néfastes sur les organismes tests.

The Bay of Arcachon has been particularly affected by the impact of organotin-based antifouling paints (His, 1996). Boring gastropods, Ocenebra erinacea, have completely disappeared from the Bay, because of the castration induced by these compounds, from 1980 to 1990. There have been no studies on imposex effects in the Bay of Arcachon since the investigations of Poli (1972) who first described the phenomenon, and of Féral (1982) who attributed it to TBT. L'acétate de tributyle-étain, qui entre dans la composition de certaines peintures antisalissures, est fortement toxique pour les oeufs et les larves D de Crassostrea gigas a la teneur de 5 p.p.b. Observation on the feeding behaviour of Crassostrea gigas larvae in the bay of Arcachon (France) ArchiMer

Crassostrea gigas Iarvae were collected in the bay of Arcachon in July 1985, 1986 and 1987. Larval samples were collected daily at high tide, during at least the first 12 days of pelagie lire and every hour during 1 day and night cycle, 6 days after spawming. Epifluoreseence microscopy was used for detecting ingestion and digestion of nanoplankton and thin sections were made to try to determine the algal species ingested. The first algal uptake occurred 48 hours after fertilization and different stages or digestion were noted from the 3rd day. No relationship between ingestion or digestion and the age of the viligers was observed. There was no difference in the feeding activity du ring day and night. Effects of twelve pesticides on larvae of oysters (Crassostrea gigas) and on two species of unicellular marine algae (Isochrysis galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans) ArchiMer

The effects of seven herbicides, four insecticides and one molluscicide were tested at concentrations of up to 10 mg/l on larvae of oysters, Crassostrea gigas (9 days exposure), and on laboratory cultures of the algae Isochrysis galbana and Chaeloceros calcilrans (21 days exposure). Ali of the pesticides tested had significant toxic effects on at least one of the test organisms. The strongest effects were those of lindane and isoproturon on survival and growth of C.gigas larvae, and of isoproturon and carbetamide on growth of Isochrysis and Chaeloceros cultures. Bioaccumulation of metals in sediment elutriates and their effects on growth, condition index, and metallothionein contents in oyster larvae ArchiMer

The bioavailability of Cd, Cu, Zn, and Pb from two metal-contaminated sediments (Bidassoa and Dunkerque) was studied using Crassostrea gigas larvae exposed to sediment elutriates. The metal contents within the sediments, the larvae and larval growth, the condition index, and the induction of metallothionein in the larvae were measured. The larval growth and condition index were only affected after exposure to the highest elutriates concentration (5 to 25%) from the most contaminated sediment (Dunkerque). The different growth stages of three marine unicellular algae used in aquaculture, Isochrysis galbana, Chaetoceros calcitrans forma pumilum and tetraselmis suecica have been studied for 50 days under controlled culture conditions using a particle meter. At the same time, the size spectrum of the cells has been determined using a C 1000 scanner. The exponential growth stage is 11 days in the first two species, and 13 in the last one. Chaetoceros calcitrans forma pumilum is the smallest with an average size of 3.5 µm. Its cellular volume is constant. The average size of Isochrysis galbana is 4.5 µm. Toxicité d'un désherbant, l'atrazine-simazine, sur les jeunes stades larvaires de Crassostrea gigas et sur deux algues fourrages, Isochrysis aff-galbana et Chaestoceros calcitrans ArchiMer

Corn culture has strongly developed in Aquitaine (France) over the past years, and lead to an increased use of pesticides and herbicides. One of the most commonly used formulations around the coast of the Arcachon Bay, an historical oyster spat capture zone, is the Atrazine-Simazine mix. The action limits of this product are defined on Crassostrea gigas larvae and on two nanoplankton test strains used in a controlled environment for their food, Isochrysis aff-galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans. Herbicides can indeed directly impact on oyster larvae, but they can also have a negative impact by interfering with the development of the algae used as aquaculture feed and feed for veligeres.

The Tributyl tin acetate, a component of certain antifouling paints, has deleterious effects on eggs and D shaped larvae from Crassostrea gigas at 5 p.p.b. (HIS & ROBERT, 1980). Here we have tested concentrations as low as 1 p.p.b. on eggs and on 24 hours old larvae both from Crassostrea gigas and Mytilus galloprovincialis. The same results are got ; this product kills embryos and larvae in a few days ; it prevents growth of 24 hours old larvae exposed to this toxic. Mussels larvae seem to be less sensitive.

Observations relatives à la maladie des huîtres plates dans le bassin d'Arcachon, vitesse d'infestation et réactions pathologiques ArchiMer

D'Avril 1974 à Décembre 1975, un lot d'huîtres plates provenant du Golfe de Morbihan, zone encore non parasitée, a été placé en élevage dans une claire des Hosses située dans le bassin d'Arcahon. L'infestation des huîtres par Marteilia refringens a été suivie sur coupes histologiques et, conjointement des enregistrements de l'activité valvaire ont été effectués à l'aide de deux ostréographes. L'association de ces techniques a permis de mettre en évidence un dérèglement de l'activité valvaire coïncidant avec l'apparition de Marteilia refringens chez l'hôte. Des réactions caractéristiques de types pathologiques ont été enregistrées chez les huîtres gravement atteintes.

Sur la présence de Cardium edule (L.) au Banc d'Arguin ArchiMer

La coque commune Cardium edule (L.) a toujours été abondante dans le Bassin d'Arcachon. Lambert (1943) mentionne sa présence en grande quantité sur le Banc de Pineau et au Cap-Ferret; plus récemment, la carte des gisements de qouillages comestibles de la baie publiée par Labrid (1967) n'en fait état que sur le Banc de Bernet. Or, ces denières années, l'essentiel de la rcolte provient en réalité d'un seul secteur: le Banc d'Arguin. D'une installation récente et d'une étude restreinte, le gisement n'est exploité que par quelques ostréiculteurs qui mettent en profit la période de moindre activité des mois d'hivers. Observations complementaires sur les causes possibles des anomalies de la reproduction de Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg) dans le bassin d'Arcachon. ArchiMer

The spat production in the Bay of Arcachon has been recently disturbed. Bioassays using algae used as food for oyster larvae have shown that the organotin paints affect or inhibit growth of Isochrysis galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans . Fresh waters coming into the bay and shore sediment did not affect the growth of these algae. Bioassays proposed by Woelke (1967) using embryos and larvae of Crassostrea gigas have shown that the quality of the sea water from Arcachon harbour has been improved a few months after the use of organotin paints has been prohibited. Likewise fresh waters are free from any micropollutants that could drastically disturb the reproduction of C. gigas in the bay.

L'emission des gametes chez l'huitre portugaise (Crassostrea Angulata LMK) ArchiMer

LE DANTEC (1968), in his research on the ecology and reproduction of the Portuguese oyster in the Arcachon basin, recounts a few experiments involving heat stimulation of genital product emissions. He conducted them in order to confirm his observation in situ, since temperature variations are presumably the most common factor of external stimulation in nature. However, the act of emitting male or female gametes in Crassostrea angulata was not, to our knowledge, the subject of any special study. Effects of dissolved mercury on embryogenesis, survival, growth of Mytilus galloprovincialis mussel larvae ArchiMer

The effects of Hg concentrations ranging from 0 (control) to 1024 µg 1-1 upon embryogenesis, survival and growth of Mytilus galloprovincialis mussel larvae were investigated . Embryogenesis was abnormal in 50 % of the individuals at 10µg 1-1. The 48 h LC50 for D-shaped, early umbonate, late umbonate and eyed larvae were 51, 164, 322 and 383 µg 1- 1 respectively. The LC50 was an allometric function of ash-free dry weight with exponent b = 0.60. Larval growth was significantly reduced alter 6 d exposure to 4 µg Hg 1-1 and alter 10 d exposure to 2 µg 1-1. Estimation de la teneur en acétate de tributyle étain dans l'eau de mer, par une méthode biologique ArchiMer

L’acétate de tributyle-étain, composé actif de certaines peintures antisalissures, représente un danger certain pour les zones conchylicoles de captage (E. HIS et R. ROBERT, 1980 et R. ROBERT et E. HIS, 1981). Les méthodes chimiques actuelles ne sont pas assez sensibles pour permettre le dosage de ce produit dans l'eau de mer, au seuil de toxicité pour les larves d'huitres. Une échelle d'action pour douze concentrations comprises entre 100 ug/l. et 0,02 ug/ l., sur les véligères de Crassostrea gigas est proposée. Elle permet d’évaluer le degré de contamination de l'eau de mer d'un part de plaisance et son évolution.
