Biomphalaria tenagophila é um hermafrodita simultâneo cujo investimento na função masculina foi avaliado pelo crescimento de seus órgãos sexuais em relação ao diâmetro da concha. Foram criadas novas técnicas para medir órgãos reprodutivos, sem aparentes distorções, e contar folículos do ovoteste. Durante o crescimento de espécimes sexualmente maduros de B. tenagophila, cresceu o número de folículos do ovoteste, mas seus números máximos e mínimos são menores do que os citados na literatura. O número de divertículos da próstata e de folículos do ovoteste de B. glabrata é maior do que o de B. tenagophila. M.. In the present study, regression equations between body and head length measurements for the broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) are presented. Age and sex are discussed as sources of variation for allometric models. Four body-length, fourteen head-length, and ten ratio variables were taken from wild and captive animals. With the exception of body mass, log-transformation did not improve the regression equations. Besides helping to estimate body-size from head dimensions, the regression equations stressed skull shape changes during the ontogenetic process. Um programa de amostragens mensais de arrasto de fundo em sete estações de coleta na Baía de Sepetiba foi realizado entre julho de 1993 e junho de 1994 com o objetivo de descrever a estrutura da comunidade de peixes e suas variações espaciais e temporais. Noventa e sete espécies de peixes foram levantadas, compreendendo 70 gêneros e 38 famílias. L.; GIOVANELLI,M.. Aspectos da ecologia de Tropidurus torquatus foram estudados mensalmente na restinga de Guriri, São Mateus, Norte do Espírito Santo, de fevereiro de 1996 a março de 1997. Foram coletados 108 exemplares com arma de pressão, sendo 45 machos, 56 fêmeas e 7 exemplares cujo sexo não foi identificado. O comprimento rostro-anal no total dos exemplares variou de 26,0 a 101,8 mm (média = 61,7 mm; DP = 15,1). O peso no total dos exemplares variou de 0,8 a 39,6 g (média = 14,6 g; DP = 10,4). The samples of soil were collected in February (rainy season) and August (dry season) in four localities: open cerrado, cerradão, gallery forest and a disturbed area at depths of 0-5, 5-10 and 10-15 cm. The samples were collected in duplicate. Of the duplicates, one was used for spore counting and the second one for spore germination. S.. No período de abril de 1992 a setembro de 1993, os adultos de Methona themisto (Hübn.) foram semanalmente marcados e recapturados em duas praças centrais de Uberlância (MG). Dos 637 indivíduos marcados nas duas praças, um terço era fêmea. Aproximadamente 10% dos indivíduos foram recapturados, sendo de 62 dias o máximo tempo de residência registrado. Os resultados apresentados na forma de listas de presas e representações gráficas de IRI (Índice de Importância Relativa) mostraram variações na composição da dieta para as duas estações. In the of Bento Gomes River Basin (Pantanal of Poconé) the presence of fishermen is very common. The objective of this study is to describe the fishing activity in the basin in view of the elaboration of proposals for the sustainable use of this natural resource. Of the 256 fishermen that were registered most are fishing for their subsistence (92%) and the rest (8%) are occasional fishermen (locally called "de lufada" fishermen). A survey of mammals and birds was carried out in a semi-deciduous forest fragment of 150 ha located in a zone of intensive agriculture in Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo, south-eastern Brazil. Line transect sampling was used to census mammals and birds during six days, totalling 27.8 km of trails and 27.8 hours of observation. Twenty mammal species were confirmed in the area (except bats and small mammals), including rare or endangered species, such as the mountain lion (Puma concolor), the maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus), and the ocelot (Leopardus pardalis). Species composition, biomass and diversity of the phytoplankton in a subtropical lake (27°29'S; 58°45'W) were studied from February 1995 to March 1996. One or two samples were taken monthly in the limnetic and the littoral area. Cell counts were done by the Utermöhl method (1958). Phytoplankton biomass varied among 2.38 and 45.59 mm³.m-2 with a mean value of 12.11 (±10.52) mm³.m-2. The population density oscillated among 0.3x10(6) and 4.7x10(6) ind.cm-2. B.. The home range of one group of the Geoffroy's marmoset (Callithrix geoffroyi) was studied in a fragment of the Atlantic Forest in south-eastern Brazil, between February 1993 and January 1994. The total home range was 23.3 ha and the area used in the dry season was significantly larger than that of the wet season. The smallest distance travelled by group was 480 m/day in May and the longest was 1,980 m/day in March, but with no significant differences between seasons. The total home range used for this species agrees with the ecological grouping of the genus Callithrix proposed by Rylands & Faria (1993) and may be associated with the habitat structure, the limit of the fragment and the inexistence of neighbouring groups. Experiments were conducted to test the effect of temperature on oviposition in four species of the melanogaster group of Drosophila: D. ananassae, D. bipectinata, D. malerkotliana and D. biarmipes. In each species, two wild strains were used and eggs laid by females at three different temperatures (19°C, 24°C and 30°C) were counted for four days at 24 h interval. It is evident from the results that females of D. ananassae, D. bipectinata, D. malerkotliana and D. biarmipes lay low number of eggs at low temperature (19°C). Thus oviposition in these four species of Drosophila is significantly reduced at low temperature. The stations cover the regions called Caraipé (C), Araçagi (B) and Ararão (A), and represent the different compartments of this ecosystem in regard to the morphometry and the presence or absence of "flooded forest".
