Coeliniaspis Fischer, 2010 (Braconidae, Alysiinae, Dacnusini) is recorded from China and Russia for the first time. Coeliniaspis insularis (Tobias, 1998) is reported from China (Fujian), redescribed and illustrated. A key to the species of the genus Coeliniaspis Fischer is added. Coeliniaspis insularis (Tobias, 1998) and C. rufiventris (Tobias, 1998) are new combinations. |

Leptographium spp. are anamorphs of Grosmannia residing in the order Ophiostomatales. These fungi are typically associated with bark-beetles and are common causal agents of sapstain in lumber and some are important tree pathogens. In this study, Leptographium spp. associated with bark beetles collected during a survey in Jilin and Yunnan provinces of China, were identified. Identifications were achieved using comparisons of morphological characters and DNA sequence data for the ITS2-partial LSU rDNA region, as well as the β-tubulin and EF-1α gene regions. Eight unknown species of Leptographium are recognised and described from conifer and hardwood hosts, associated with beetles including Ips subelongatus, Tomicus yunnanensis, Hylurgops minor, Polygraphus... |

The distribution of Zethus Fabicius, 1804, in the Oriental and Palaearctic regions is discussed, with special reference to the northeastern Oriental species. A newly discovered species, Z. velamellatus Tan, sp. n. from China (Zhejiang), is described and illustrated. The first key to species of Zethus Fabricius from China is presented. Zethus nigerrimus Gusenleitner, 2001 is recorded for the first time from China and redescribed. |

The low-crowned Hystrix species known of the Neogene from Europe and Asia and some new finds from Shihuiba near Lufeng, South China, are compared on the basis of numerical data. The taxonomical allocation of the seven species recognised thus far is maintained. The occurrences of two coeval Eurasian late Turolian species is discussed. The material from Lufeng is described and allocated to Hystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848), implicating an area of distribution of this species from S.E. Europe to S.E. Asia in the Turolian. In the northern Chinese Hystricidae the increase of the cheek tooth height is more advanced than in the the West Asiatic and European representatives. The difference in ecological environment of Hystrix gansuensis Wang & Qiu, 2002 (North... |

A new genus is split off the genus Craspedolcus Enderlein, 1920 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Braconinae): Maculibracon gen. n. with type species Maculibracon abruptus sp. n. The genus Craspedolcus Enderlein sensu stricto is redefined, a key to both genera and to their species in China, Thailand and Vietnam is included. Craspedolcus obscuriventris Enderlein, 1920, (syn. n.) is a new synonym of C. vagatus (Smith, 1858), as Ipobracon maculicosta Enderlein, 1920 and Iphiaulax bhotanensis Cameron, 1907 of Maculibracon simlaensis (Cameron, 1899), comb. n. The genus Craspedolcus is recorded from China for the first time with two species: Craspedolcus fraternus Enderlein, 1920, and C. politus sp. n. The genus Maculibracon is represented by three species in China: M.... |

A translation of the Chinese description of a female of Neallogaster annandalei (Fraser, 1923), by Zhou (1988) is given and compared with the original description of Anotogaster annandalei. It is concluded that this species should be included in the genus Cordulegaster. A translation of the original Chinese descriptions of Cordulegaster jinensis Zhu & Han, 1992, and Neallogaster choui Yang & Li, 1994, is presented. It is suggested that the two species are conspecific. Material of "Cordulegaster luniferous var. annandalei Klots, 1947" from Yunnan is identified as Neallogaster latifrons Selys, 1878 (?), by which the presence of Neallogaster in China is confirmed. |

East Palaearctic Cordulegastridae from the former Lieftinck collection are identified. Two Neallogaster species are described and figured. Neallogaster is supposed to consist of two speciesgroups. Cordulegaster lunifera and C. pekinensis are redescribed and figured. A single female from Central China belongs to C. jinensis. It is assumed that these three Cordulegaster species belong to a separate supraspecific taxon. A single male Cordulegaster from 'Tsingtau" is not conspecific with other cordulegastrids known from China; it resembles the European C. boltonii and will be described as a new species in a revision of the C. boltonii species-group. It is emphasized that the cordulegastrid fauna of the East Palaearctic is still insufficiently known. |

Ovine theileriosis is a tick-borne disease that restricts the development of small ruminant husbandry in northern China. In this study, we report on a molecular epidemiological survey of ovine Theileria spp. in 198 blood samples taken from sheep in northern China. The DNA samples were screened by a nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting the 18S rRNA gene of ovine Theileria spp. The prevalence of ovine Theileria spp. in Yanji, Nongan, Longjing, Toudao and Jinchang was 80%, 40%, 37%, 24% and 32%, respectively. The sequencing analyses approved the present of the T. orientalis and/or T. luwenshuni in these regions. Taken together, we have demonstrated a high incidence of Theileria spp. in northern China that calls for the need to design effective... |

A molecular epidemiological survey on Theileria orientalis was conducted in a cattle population of Fujian province in China. The screening polymerase chain reaction assay showed that 23 (45%) of 51 blood samples were positive for T. orientalis. DNA sequencing of the major piroplasm surface antigen-encoding gene indicated the presence of 3 different genotypes in the study area(types 1,2,and 5) and identified T. orientalis types 1 and 2 as the major genotypes in the sample population. Because type 2 (Ikeda type in Japan) has been recognized as a relatively virulent genotype of T. orientalis, control and preventive measures to minimize the incidence of infectious diseases among cattle bred in China are necessary. |

China joined the international organic movement comparatively late. Challenged by the scarcity of arable land and a large population to feed, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) for many years has been reluctant to support organic farming that might result in a drop of agricultural output. On the contrary, China’s “Green Revolution” catapulted the country to a leading producer and user of agrochemicals in the world. This development came at a high cost for the country’s environmental quality and food safety. In recent years, accumulating public complaints about environmental pollution, food poisoning, sickness and death of farmers poisoned by agrochemicals as well as increasing difficulties with agricultural exports rejected as a result of... |
