Ocean acidification, climate change, and other environmental stressors threaten coral reef ecosystems and the people who depend upon them. New science reveals that these multiple stressors interact and may affect a multitude of physiological and ecological processes in complex ways. The interaction of multiple stressors and ecological complexity may mean that the negative effects on coral reef ecosystems will happen sooner and be more severe than previously thought. One of the current major scientific challenges to sustain social-ecological systems is to improve our understanding of the spatial and temporal dynamics of the relationships between biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and ecosystem services. Here, we analyse the bundles of ecosystem services supplied by three coastal ecosystems (coastal lagoons, coral reefs and sandy beaches) along a gradient of eutrophication. Genesis and Architecture of Sequences of Quaternary Coral Reef Terraces: Insights From Numerical Models 5

The variety of coral reefs morphologies highlights their sensitivities to several forcings; fossil reefs stack in sequences that are accordingly diverse. In order to understand their genesis and architectures, we devised a numerical approach, accounting for Quaternary sea level oscillations, vertical land motion, initial slope, wave erosion, and reef growth. We first test our model on the subsiding sequence of Hawaii and on the uplifting sequence of Wangi-Wangi (Sulawesi) that bears active barriers. • In order to assess the sustainability of fish resources in the Natural Marine Park of Mayotte (Western Indian Ocean), indicators and monitoring protocols must be determined. • This study relied on the underwater video technique STAVIRO for assessing fish communities and resources. A pilot survey was conducted in Nov. 2014 in the south-east quarter of the Mayotte lagoon, an area encompassing the marine reserves of Longogori, M’Bouzi and the Saziley Marine Park. A total of 212 carnivorous coastal fish species from New Caledonia, represented by 7335 individuals, were analysed for their diet. Fifty two prey items were identified and later grouped into broader taxonomic categories refered as "prey types". For each fish species 6 biological traits were defined: maximum adult size, major biotope, schooling behaviour, home range, nycthemeral behaviour, degree of crypticity. Pedicularia vanderlandi spec. nov., a symbiotic snail (Caenogastropoda: Ovulidae) on the hydrocoral Distichopora vervoorti Cairns & Hoeksema, 1998 (Hydrozoa: Stylasteridae), from Bali, Indonesia 16

A new species of ovulid gastropod is described from Bali as Pedicularia vanderlandi spec. nov. It was predominantly found in shallow water on the stylasterid hydrocoral Distichopora vervoorti Cairns & Hoeksema, 1998. The snails are compared with type specimens of congeneric taxa and with material of Pedicularia pacifica Pease, 1865, which was found in shallow water on an unidentified Stylaster. Various notes on Indo Pacific Pedicularia species are given in an annotated, preliminary check-list. Finally, the host relationships of Pedicularia are discussed in general.

Southern African coral communities form a continuum from the more typical, accretive reefs in the tropics of Mozambique to the marginal, southernmost African distribution of this fauna in KwaZulu- Natal. While the latter are limited in size, they are gaining increasing attention as they provide a model for the study of many of the stresses to which these valuable systems are globally being subjected. Description and mapping of the coral reefs investigated during the Snellius-II Expedition in Indonesia 16

Macrohabitat distribution, zonation and morphology of coral reefs in the Flores Sea region were investigated. Descriptions of reefs and reef maps are presented, based on large area surveys and aerial photographs. Diving equipment, underwater scooter, depth recorder and different methods of aerial photography were employed to collect data. The aim of the surveys was to acquire synoptic views of the study areas and to attribute to a uniform classification system applicable to reef mapping throughout the archipelago.

This is the first record of an association between a wentletrap species (Gastropoda: Epitoniidae) and coral species of the Euphyllidae (Scleractinia), i.e. Plerogyra simplex and P. diabolotus. While describing Epitonium hartogi spec. nov., special attention is given to the ontogenetic development within the eggcapsules, the structure and microsculpture of the opercula, the radulae, and the microsculpture on the radular jaws. The Fungiidae are mushroom corals that live in sublittoral habitats in the tropical Indo-Pacific. Their habitats are part of coral reefs or other marine substrata, which usually can be found in the proximity of the reefs. In the present taxonomic revision, the family is divided into 11 genera; one of which, Fungia, is subdivided into seven subgenera. A total of 40 species is described and figured, three of which are new to science. One species is renamed. The stratigraphic distribution is given for all the species recorded in fossil state. Mesophotic mushroom coral records at Brunei Darussalam support westward extension of the Coral Triangle to the South China Sea waters of Northwest Borneo 16

This communication reports the discovery of two additional fungiid coral species, Cycloseris hexagonalis and Lithophyllon spinifer, from a relatively deep shelf reef in Brunei waters. This study aimed to assess abundance and habitat use by juvenile and adult damselfishes, as much as the benthic cover of different reefs on Isla Colon, Bocas del Toro, Panama. Reefs were selected considering different levels of wave exposure and depths. Damselfish and benthic communities were distinct between reefs. The most abundant species in the sheltered deeper reef was Stegastes planifrons followed by S. leucostictus, and they were also recorded in the sheltered shallower reef.
