Survey of rice stored pest in The Upper Northern part of Thailand was done in 3 agricultural cooperatives (Nongmuongkai, Maejai and Chiangsaen) using food trap during December 2011 – November 2012. The results showed that 25 stored rice insect pest were found (18 important insect pests and 7 natural enemies). At Nongmoungkai, the important insect pests were Liposcelis spp., Lophocateres pusillus, Sitophillus oryzae and Ceyptolestes pusillus were found with the survey number of 2, 206, 580, 365 and 108 respectively. The natural enemies Xylocoris flavipes was found with the number of 225. At Maejai, the important insect pests were S. oryzae, L. pusillus, L. spp., Rhyzoopertha dominica C. pusillus and Oryzaephilus surinamensis found with the survey number of... |

Study about the accordance of rice insect pests from the light trap and the research data of insects in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 (weak) and that of SuphanBuri 1 (resistant) was conducted from the year 2011 to 2013 at the Chiang Rai Rice Research Center. It’s found that the rice insect pests entrapped by the light trap being increased from the year 2007 to 2010. That in May, 2011, 4,779 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found; in March, 2012, 19,248 whitebacked planthoppers were mostly found and; in May, 2013, 19,047 zigzag leafhoppers were mostly found. In the paddy field, rice insect pests were found in the rice seed of San-pah-tawng 1 more than that of Suphan Buri 1. In the In-season rice of the year 2011, the White backed planthoppers were mostly... |

Abstract Polyphagotarsonemus latus is one a major pest of Valencia orange in Colombia. To study its biology, it was established an experiment on young leaves of the Valencia orange at 25 ± 5°C, 70 ± 5% RH, and 12:12 L:D photoperiod. To characterize the nature of damage caused by this mite on leaves and young fruits, a trial in screenhouse conditions using young leaf and small fruits (0.1 - 0.3 cm in diameter) and fruits between 1.0-3.0 cm in diameter, which were infested with 5, 15 and 30 adult females of P. latus, was established. The total duration of life cycle was 3.2 days; the female had an oviposition period of 7.4 days and longevity 9.6 days. Life table parameters were as follows: net reproductive rate (R o ) = 93.3, intrinsic rate of natural... |

We report for the first time the attack of the walking stick Tetanorhynchus leonardosi (Mello-Leitão) (Orthoptera: Proscopiidae) on young eucalyptus, Eucalyptus urophylla, in Brazil. The upper third of the trees was attacked (apical meristems and new leaves). During the hottest hours of the day the insects were found sheltered between leaves on the median third of the plants, and feeding when temperatures were milder. The attack was heterogeneous in the stand, being more concentrated when it was neighbouring an area of native 'Cerrado' vegetation. Mean defoliation was 5.8%, with an average of 5.2% of plants with apical meristems cut by the walking sticks. An application of Methyl Parathion was not effective against the pest. Apparently plants older than 6... |

The root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica (Treub, 1885) Chitwood, 1949, was identified in roots, nodules and shells of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.), cv. Florman-INTA, collected from a field in Menno colony, Chaco Central region of Paraguay. Infected plants were observed in patches, showing wilting and drying of vegetative parts. Peanut had been grown ininterruptly for many years in the same area and patches had already been observed in the preceding year in cv. Starr. Nematodes collected from roots in this field reproduced on tomato cultivar rutgers and peanut cultivar florunner and produced egg-masses on roots, nodules and shells of cultivar Florman. This is the first report on M. javanica parasiting peanut in Paraguay. |

R. Figueroa-Brito, P. Villa-Ayala, J.F. López-Olguín, A. Huerta-de la Pena, J.R. Pacheco-Aguilar, and M.A. Ramos-López. 2013. Nitrogen fertilization sources and insecticidal activity of aqueous seeds extract of Carica papaya against Spodoptera frugiperda in maize. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(3): 567-577. The damage caused by the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) to vegetative-stage maize cultivated with chemical nitrogen fertilizers, vermicompost, and Carica papaya L. (Caricaceae) seed extract was estimated. Each shoot was infested with one first instar larva of S. frugiperda. The variables measured included the percentage of germination, length of the second and fifth leaves, stem diameter and plant height, and the estimation of... |

ABSTRACT: Cyclocephala flavipennis Arrow, 1914 (Coleoptera: Melolonthidae), popularly known as white grub, is an insect widely disseminated in the South Region of Brazil. Despite the frequent occurrence of this white grub in areas cultivated with winter cereals, it is generally not considered a pest, since it feeds on straw and dead plant material. However, in 2015 and 2016, this insect has been identified as the damage-causing agent in the perennial winter pastures in Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Damage was observed in patches and caused reduction in root depth and mass, resulting in loss of vigor, accelerated senescence in aerial parts, and death of tillers in Festuca arundinacea Schreb. and Dactylis glomerata L. plants. |

ABSTRACT: The occurrence of leaf spots in irrigated rice can reduce the yield and compromise the quality of the grain. However it is unknown the economic damage threshold (EDT) that these spots cause the yield of crop. The objective of this study was to obtain damage functions for models of critical, to relate damage by simultaneous occurrence of blast, brown spot and scald spot with grain yield harvests in 2011/12 and 2012/2013, in Rio do Oeste, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Gradient of diseases intensity was generated by number of applications and fungicides rates. Design was a randomized block with four replications and six treatments consisting of mixing fungicide applications of triazole (difenoconazole) and strobilurin (azoxystrobin). In 2011/12 and... |
