Interlinkages in the Tunica Media of Goat Aorta International Journal of Morphology
Ogeng'o,Julius; Malek,Adel Abdel; Kiama,Stephen.
The arrangement and interconnections between various components of the aortic wall influence its physicomechanical properties and functional alterations that occur in disease and ageing. The goat is a suitable model for studying cardiovascular disease, but details of the intrinsic organization of its aorta are unknown. This study therefore investigated the histomorphology of aortic tunica media in the goat by transmission electron microscopy. Sixteen healthy juvenile and adult domestic male goats (capra hircus) purchased from livestock farms in the outskirts of Nairobi were used in the study. The animals were euthanized with overdose of sodium pentabarbitone 20mg/kg, and fixed with 3% phosphate buffered glutaraldehyde solution by gravimetric perfusion....

Unilateral Cryptorchidism in Nigerian Sahel Bucks International Journal of Morphology
Igbokwe,I. O; Grema,H. A; Ikpo,A. E; Mshelbwala,F. M; Igbokwe,N. A.
Out of 1608 Nigerian Sahel male goats (bucks) examined for cryptorchidism in an abattoir, 9 (0.6%) had right unilateral cryptorchidism. The coat colour-specific prevalence was highest among the brown bucks (2.1%); and was 0.8%, 0.6%, and 0.3% among black, white, back-and-white bucks, respectively. The condition was not found among bucks with brown-and-black, brown-and-white, and multiple coat colours. The right and left testes of normal bucks and the descended testes of cryptorchid bucks had comparable gross testicular measurements, but the retained cryptorchid testes were smaller in size. The estimates of the testicular measurements showed that testicular weights (with the entire epididymes), peripheral longitudinal lengths and mid-circumferences of the...

Postnatal Development of Testis in Gaddi Goat (Capra hircus) International Journal of Morphology
Archana,P; Katiyar,R. S; Sharma,D. N; Farooqui,M. M; Prakash,Ajay.
A study was conducted on the testicles of 30 male Gaddi goats, divided into 3 groups viz; prepubertal (0 day to 18 months), pubertal (<18 months to >5 yrs) and post- pubertal (>5 yrs) ages. The study revealed that the testis was covered by fibroserous tunica albuginia having outer fibrous layer and inner vascular layer with smooth muscle fibers at birth. The tunica albuginia continuously grew in thickness from prepubertal to postpubertal animals. The septula testis arising from the tunica albuginia, divided the parenchyma in lobules and converged at mediastinum testis. Few differentiated and undifferentiated Leydig cells were present in the intertubular spaces of neonates, which enormously increased in pubertal animals and replaced by...

Ogeng'o,Julius A; Mwachaka,Phillip M; Olabu,Beda O.
This study aimed at describing the distribution of vasa vasora in the tunica media of various parts of goat aorta, since this influences the physico-mechanical properties and disease occurrence. Specimens were obtained from ascending, arch, each vertebral level of descending thoracic and various segments of abdominal aorta of sixteen healthy adult male domestic goats (Capra hircus). They were fixed in 10% formaldehyde solution, and routinely processed for paraffin embedding. Seven micron thick sections were stained with Mason's Trichrome stain. Vasa vasora are present in the tunica media of all the aortic segments. In the proximal segments, they co-localize with muscle islands found in the adventitial half. Their density declines caudally, but they are...

DISTRIBUIÇÃO DO REBANHO CAPRINO NO BRASIL NOS ANOS 1995/96 E 2006 AgEcon

Curtailing Fertilizer Scarcity and Climate Change; an appraisal of Factors Affecting Organic Materials Use Option in Nigeria’s Agriculture AgEcon
Omotesho, O.A.; Fakayode, S.B.; Tariya, Y..
Global trends nowadays towards long term sustainable crop production is hinged on either supplementing the use of chemical fertilizers with organic materials or a complete use of organic materials. This is more so since substituting chemical fertilizers with organic materials reduces the risks of exposure to ailments that arise on account of synthetic compounds and increases farmers’ gains via reduced soil erosion and carbon emissions and increased bio-diversity. In this vein, the current study investigated organic materials use in Nigeria’s agriculture. Specifically, the study examined availability and use of chemical fertilizer and organic materials substitutes and investigated factors affecting the use of organic materials in the Nigerian food sector....

ANÁLISE SOB A ÓTICA DA NEI/ECT DAS ESTRUTURAS DE GOVERNANÇA NA CADEIA PRODUTIVA DA OVINOCAPRINOCULTURA NO DISTRITO FEDERAL AgEcon
Leitao, Fabricio Oliveira; Medeiros, Josemar Xavier De; Brisola, Marlon Vinicius; Silva, Ronaldo Dos Santos; Vieira, Debora De Faria Albernaz.
