Daneshvar,Ehsan; Ardestani,Mahsa Y.; Dorafshan,Salar; Martins,Mauricio L..
This study describes the hematological parameters in Iranocichla hormuzensis, an Iranian freshwater cichlid important as ornamental and food fish. Forty fish were captured with seine net at Mehran river Hormozgan province, Iran. Blood was used to determine the total counts of red blood cells (RBC) and white blood cells (WBC), hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and morphometric data of erythrocytes. The Iranian fish showed lower RBC and WBC values than the other cichlids (Oreochromis niloticus, O. aureus, O. mossambicus, O. hybrid, Cichlasoma dimerus and Cichla monoculus). Hematocrit did not vary among the species, but MCV, MCH and MCHC in I. hormuzensis were higher...

Momtaz,H.; Rahimi,E.; Hajian,S.; Momeni,M..
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) in sea food samples in the Isfahan and Shahrekord townships in Iran. From September 2010 to April 2011, a total of 300 samples of fresh fish, shrimp, crab and lobster were obtained from randomly selected retail stores in the Isfahan and Shahrekord townships in Iran. The samples were tested for the presence of HAV using a reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction method. Out of the total number of samples examined, 8 (2.7%) were found to be positive for HAV. This virus was detected in 5% and 1.7% of fresh fish and shrimp, respectively. This study shows the importance of sea food as potential sources of HAV infection in people in Iran.

Investigation of the GJB6 Deletion Mutations Del (GJB6-D13s1830) and Del (GJB6-D13s1854) in Iranian Patients with Autosomal-Recessive Non-Syndromic Hearing Loss (ARNSHL) BABT
Onsori,Habib.
Hearing loss (HL) is the most common inherited sensory disorder affecting about 1 in 1000 births. The first locus for nonsyndromic autosomal recessive HL is on chromosome 13q11-22. The two genes, GJB2 and GJB6, are closely located on chromosome and are known to be co-expressed in the embryonic cochlea. Deletion mutations involving GJB6 were associated with autosomal-recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss (ARNSHL) and in combination with a GJB2 mutation with digenic ARNSHL. The objective of this study was to screen for the del (GJB6-D13S1830) and del (GJB6-D13s1854) mutations in GJB6 gene in patients with ARNSHL from Iran, using multiplex PCR and direct sequencing methods. Agarose gel electrophoresis and DNA sequencing of amplified fragment of the PCR reaction...

Farahmand,Mahin; Nahrevanian,Hossein; Shirazi,Hasti Atashi; Naeimi,Sabah; Farzanehnejad,Zahra.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a widespread tropical infection which has a high incidence rate in Iran. Leishmania tropica, the causative agent of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL), and Leishmania major, which causes zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL), are endemic in various parts of Iran with a high incidence rate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reappraisal of the diagnosis and epidemiology of CL in Iran, by different clinical, parasitological and molecular assays among patients suspected of CL referred to the Department of Parasitology, at the Pasteur Institute of Iran during 2006-2009. Two hundred samples from patients with ulcerative skin lesions were collected, clinical analyses were applied, data questionnaire was completed...

Biochemical association between essential trace elements and susceptibility to Leishmania major in BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice BJID
Amini,Marzyeh; Nahrevanian,Hossein; Khatami,Shohreh; Farahmand,Mahin; Mirkhani,Fatemeh; Javadian,Seifoddin.
Several enzymes that contribute to immune system responses require zinc and copper as trace elements for their activity. We examined zinc and copper levels in two susceptible Balb/c mouse lines and resistant C57bl/6 mice infected with Leishmania major MRHO/IR/75/ER, a prevalent strain that causes cutaneous leishmaniasis in Iran. Serum Zn and Cu were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Higher Cu levels were found in infected C57bl/6 mice and higher Zn levels were found in infected Balb/c mice. Also, Cu/Zn ratios were increased in both the Balb/c and the C57bl/6 mice. We conclude that concentrations of essential trace elements vary during cutaneous leishmaniasis infection and that this variation is associated with...

Molecular genetic differentiation of avian Escherichia coli by RAPD-PCR BJM
Salehi,Taghi Zahraei; Madani,Seyed Ahmad; Karimi,Vahid; Khazaeli,Fatemeh Arab.
Escherichia coli is one of the most important bacterial avian pathogens and a common inhabitant of the gastrointestinal tract of animals. Most pathogenic E. coli can not be differentiated biochemically or by classic microbiologic methods. Molecular typing methods, particularly PCR, facilitated epidemiological and ecological studies of bacteria. Here we describe the application of a random amplified polymorphic DNA- polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR) for molecular genetic differentiation of E. coli isolates in Iran. In this study 58 E. coli isolates including 4 standard strains, 3 food originated isolates, 33 avian isolates, 8 isolates form diarrheic calves and 10 isolates from unweaned diarrheic lambs were analyzed by RAPD-PCR using primer 1247(5/-AAG...
