Characterization of tropical viticulture in the fluminense north and northwest regions Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Jaomara Nascimento da; Ponciano,Niraldo José; Souza,Claudio Luiz Melo; Souza,Paulo Marcelo de; Viana,Leandro Hespanhol.
Abstract Viticulture is a recent activity in Rio de Janeiro, which has been well adapted to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the north and northwest regions of Rio de Janeiro. The aim of this study was to characterize the main socioenvironmental and technological aspects of grape production in these regions. Data were collected in 2017 and 2018, from the application of questionnaires to 16 grape producers in the regions, for descriptive statistical analysis and preparation of tables and graphs. In both regions small producers are the main investors. Most of them do not participate in associations and have technical assistance in particular. The region has favorable edaphoclimatic characteristics, mainly for the cultivation of rustic grapes, predominantly...

The recapture of Leptopanchax opalescens (Aplocheiloidei: Rivulidae), a critically endangered seasonal killifish: habitat and aspects of population structure Rev. Bras. Zool.
Guedes,Gustavo H.S.; Salgado,Fernando L.K.; Uehara,Wagner; Ferreira,Débora L. de Paiva; Araújo,Francisco G..
ABSTRACT Leptopanchax opalescens (Myers, 1942) is a small seasonal killifish endemic to coastal drainages in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Leptopanchax opalescens was recaptured in temporary open vegetation pools (22°42.35’S, 43°41.59’W) in the hydrographic basin of the Guandu River, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after eight years without records. Information on habitat and population parameters (Capture per unit area (CPUA), size, sex ratio and length-weight relationship (LWR)) are given to provide subsidies for the conservation of this species. Specimens were captured during the rainy season (January-April 2020) in shallow pools (mean depth = 21 ± 12 s.d. cm), with relatively acidic pH (5.2 ± 0.8) and low concentrations of dissolved oxygen (3.5...

Missing for the last twenty years: the case of the southernmost populations of the Tropical Mockingbird Mimus gilvus (Passeriformes: Mimidae) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Zanon,Mariana S.; Vale,Mariana M.; Alves,Maria Alice S..
The Tropical Mockingbird Mimus gilvus (Vieillot, 1808) is a widespread species in the Neotropics, but its southernmost populations in Brazil are ecologically (and possibly taxonomically) distinct, occurring only along the coast in restinga vegetation. Once considered the most common bird in restinga, it is becoming increasingly rare, likely due to habitat loss and illegal capture of nestlings. We conducted field surveys to provide an up-to-date distribution of the Tropical Mockingbird in the southernmost portion of the species' range, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, supplying an estimate of its current regional population size and conservation status. We surveyed 21 restinga remnants in Rio de Janeiro, covering all major restinga areas in the state. For...

The feeding habits of the eyespot skate Atlantoraja cyclophora (Elasmobranchii: Rajiformes) in southeastern Brazil Rev. Bras. Zool.
Viana,Alessandra da Fonseca; Vianna,Marcelo.
The stomach contents of the eyespot skate, Atlantoraja cyclophora (Regan, 1903), were examined with the goal to provide information about the diet of the species. Samples were collected off the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, near Ilha Grande, between January 2006 and August 2007, at a depth of about 60 m. The diet was analyzed by sex, maturity stages and quarterly to verify differences in the importance of food items. The latter were analyzed by: frequency of occurrence, percentage of weight and in the Alimentary Index. The trophic niche width was determined to assess the degree of specialization in the diet. Additionally, the degree of dietary overlap between males and females; juveniles and adults and periods of the year were defined. A total...

O Desenvolvimento Rural no Estado do Rio de Janeiro a partir de Uma Análise Multidimensional Rev. Econ. Sociol. Rural

Complexo Littorina ziczac (Gmelin) (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Caenogastropoda) no litoral fluminense: análise morfométrica, distribuição vertical e bioquímica Zoologia
Absalão,Ricardo Silva; Roberg,Renata Alves Pinheiro.
The Littorina ziczac (Gmelin, 1791) species complex was studied in Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil. The occurrence of three species was confirmed, through the analysis of penis morphology: L. ziczac (Gmelin, 1791), L. lineata d'Orbigny, 1841 and L. lineolata d'Orbigny, 1840. There is a correlation between the morphology of the penis and shell shape, thus it was possible to make a discrimination model based in conchologic data, with an efficiency of 75%. However, this model cannot be applied to others samples that weren't included in its formulation, due to phenotypic plasticity of the shell caused by biotic and abiotic factors. In the 9 areas studied L. lineolata was always the most abundam species. No vertical stratification in the distribution...

Composição de gastrópodes terrestres em duas áreas do Centro de Estudos Ambientais e Desenvolvimento Sustentado (CEADS), Vila Dois Rios, Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil: um estudo-piloto Zoologia
Santos,Sonia Barbosa dos; Monteiro,Daniele Pedrosa.
A survey of the Ilha Grande land snails was carried out in order to compare the diversity and similarity among two regions of secondary Atlantic Rain Forest. The diversity was estimated using the richness and the equitatibility; the alpha diversity was calculated using the Simpson index (γ). The Sörensen and Jaccard indexes were used to calculate the similarity. A quantitative survey of two 600 m² area, one in each studied region, recorded 336 individuals snails distributed in 23 species and 13 families. The region with more altered secondary forest showed higher richness (17) and diversity (γ = 3,6) than the region more preserved (richness = 14; γ = 2,78), but, the same equitatibility (0,20). The similarity was medium by Jaccard index (IJ = 0,52) and low...

Monteiro,Daniele Pedrosa; Santos,Sônia Barbosa dos.
Thirty shells of Tamayoa (Tamayops) banghaasi (Thiele, 1927) from Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, were analyzed with a stereomicroscop showing the following characteristics: discoid shell, without macrosculptures; ovate-lunate aperture without teeth. Thin, sharp and not-reflected lip; umbilicus with 1/5 of the shell's diameter; impressed suture, total whorls from 4 to 5.5; protoconch with 1.5 to 2 whorls; yellowish-amber, translucent and glossy periostracum. The morphology of the shells were discussed, as well as the shell's dimensions. The conchomorphological patterns are important for systematic studies of mollusks and this work presents data that can be used in future studies about the family.

Relações tróficas entre as cinco espécies de peixes mais representativas nas margens da laguna de Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro Zoologia
Moraes,Luzia A. F. de; Andreata,José V.
This study gives information on the feeding habits of 1,015 specimens, belonging to the five most abundant fish species in the Jacarepagua Lagoon, captured between March 1990 and February 1991, using trawl net. A feeding index was introduced to compare the relative importance of various food items, according to species standard length. A clustering analysis was calculated by using numerical coefficient of food items and defined two main groups: The 1 st represented by Xenomelaniris brasiliensis (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824) and Jenynsia lineata (Jenyns, 1842) considered omnivorous, fed mainly on insects, and the second including Tilapia rendalli (Boulenger, 1896), Phalloptychus januarius (Hensel, 1868) and Poecilia vivipara (Bloch & Schneider,...

Notes on the lesser white-lined bat, Saccopteryx leptura (Schreber) (Chiroptera, Emballonuridae), from southeastern Brazil Zoologia
Nogueira,Marcelo R.; Peracchi,Adriano L.; Pol,André.
Saccopteryx leptura (Schreber, 1774) is reported from two new localities in southeastern Brazil, both in Atlantic forest remains in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Analysisof food material showed that individuals from both localities had preyedon insects in the order Hymenoptera. Cheek contents were available from one specimen, and in this case identification of the food item (flying ants) achieved generic level (Pheidole Westwood, 1841). Aspects in the social behavior observed in a colony suggest that the same traits documented in Central American populations (small colonies, monogamic mating system, and retention of young for up to a year in the parental unit) may also characterize this species in the southern most part of its range. In both external and...

Onchocerca cervicalis Railliet & Henry, 1910 is a nematode that parasite equines. Its ocurrence has already been reported in the States of Mato Grosso and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Different diagnostic techniques were used in this study to establish the prevalence of the parasite in Rio de Janeiro State and the biting behaviour of the simuliid and ceratopogonid species suspected of being vectors was studied. All of the biopsies made in the region of the withers, shoulder and umbilicus of 57 animals were negative. Necropsies carried out on 28 equines revealed 4 to be positive for the parasite; 2 for microfilariae and 2 for adults. Simuliid flies showed preference for biting the ventral region and ceratopogonids the lower parts of the legs of horses....

This paper deals with the schooling structure of Brazilian-sardine, Sardinella brasiliensis (Steindachner, 1879), in coastal waters of Rio de Janeiro State (Brazil). Samples were obtained from schools caught by commercial fishery in the area of Angra dos Reis (23º-24ºS, 44º-45ºW), from autumn/1999 to summer/2000, comprising 2,278 fishes. In average, males had total lengths and weights lower than those of females, with major differences in weights. Seasonal fluctuations of average total weights are associated with the annual reproduction cycle and condition factor, mainly in females. Sex-ratio was around 1:1, except in winter, when females were in majority. Mature males and females were found all along the year, with a peak in the spring-summer, showing a...

Comparative evaluation of fish assemblages census on an artificial reef Zoologia
Brotto,Daniel S.; Krohling,Werther; Zalmon,Ilana R..
One of the main issues regarding artificial reef fish evaluation is the performance of an efficient visual census sampling. An experimental artificial reef made of four different types of concrete modules was implanted on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro (21º29'S, 41º00W). Two interval-sampling periods using a visual census method were performed in the summer of 2003 (N = 6) and 2004 (N = 6), weekly and daily, respectively. The longer interval-sampling period showed twice of species with eight exclusive ones. Total fish abundance was higher during the shorter interval-sampling period, due to the presence of large shoals of Chloroscombrus chrysurus (Linnaeus, 1766) and Haemulon aurolineatum (Cuvier, 1829) especially at the complex modules. Fish abundance...
