Tabebuia serratifolia is used for the reforestation of degraded areas. Despite protection by law for permanent preservation, the species is in danger of extinction due to improper exploitation. With the objective to aid preservation and long term storage of the species we evaluated morphophysiological alterations of T. serratifolia seeds during the maturation process in order to identify markers that can be used for harvesting and storage. Fruits were collected at anthesis and seven developmental stages from trees growing in Lavras, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. At each harvest, fruits and seeds were evaluated for color and size, moisture content, dry matter, internal morphology (by X-ray analysis), germination parameters (in vitro and ex vitro), as well... |

Significant advances have been made in our knowledge of forage seed physiology, technology, and stand establishment practices; however, stand establishment continues to be one of the most common production problems affecting forage crops in the USA. There is a need for research on stand establishment of forage crops under abiotic and biotic stress. Although the forage seed industry produces and markets seed of high quality, new methods of assessing seed vigor are needed and their use should be expanded in the industry to enable matching seed lot performance to specific environmental conditions where performance can be maximized. Seed treatment and seed coating are used in the forage seed industry, and studies have shown they are of benefit in some... |

There are various vigor tests for the evaluation of seeds physiological quality, however, few studies correlate this tests with plants emergency. This study aimed at identifying wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seed analysis variables that best predict seedling emergence. Wheat seeds (CEP 30 cultivar) were divided into two batches, one initially subjected to the accelerated ageing process and forming the low-quality batch, and the other, without application of the accelerated ageing process, to compose a high-quality batch. The following seed test variables were evaluated: (i) percentage of normal seedlings in the germination tests, (ii) initial germination counting, (iii) accelerated ageing, (iv) cold test without soil, (v) germination speed index, and (vi)... |

The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effect of planting dates on seed quality of lablab bean (Lablab purpureus L. Sweet) was carried out at laboratory of the faculty of Natural Resources and Agro-Industry, Kasetsart University Chalermphrakiat Sakhon Nakhon Province Campus, during July, 2012 to August, 2012. A completely randomized design with four replications was used. Experimental treatments consisted of seed form four planting dates spaced at about 30-day intervals form 23 July to 23 October, 2011. The results revealed that planting date had a significant effect on physiological seed quality of lablab bean (P<0.05). The seed of lablab bean planted on 23 July produced the highest seed germination, germination index and pure... |

Germination test (sand test) of storage condition of treated field corn seed, SW. 5 variety was carried out in 2 conditions, room temperature (25 deg C +- 2 deg C) and control room (13 deg C +- 2 deg C, 45 percent RH.) storage for 6 months. There were 8 treatments including 7S+SPt 360, 7S+ KPS 46, 7S+SW 01/4, SW 01/4+SPt 360, SW 01/4+KPS 46, SPt 360+KPS 46, bacterial suspension KPS 46 and non-treated (control). The result showed that seed storage under different condition affected on seed germination significantly. Seed deterioration rate in condition room lower than in room temperature. For seed treatment, it was found that there were high correlation between seed storage and treated material. Under control room temperature, field corn seed treated with... |

Study of sunn hemp seed development and maturation was studied at the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Natural Resources, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai campus, Hat Yai, Songkhla, during March-June, 2008. The blooming flowers were tagged to indicate the date of flowering. Pods at 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43 and 46 days after flowering were harvested to investigate pod color, seed color and seed quality. The results showed that the sunn hemp had 6 developmental stages of pod color which were green, yellow-green, light grey-green, dark greygreen, grey-brown and grey-brown-black at 10-16, 19-28, 31, 34, 37-40 and 43-46 days after flowering, respectively. The sunn hemp seeds were capable of germination at approximately 25 days... |
