Coalitional Matchings 31
Dimitrov, Dinko; Lazarova, Emiliya A..
A coalitional matching is a two-sided matching problem in which agents on each side of the market may form coalitions such as student groups and research teams who - when matched - form universities. We assume that each researcher has preferences over the research teams he would like to work in and over the student groups he would like to teach to. Correspondingly, each student has preferences over the groups of students he wants to study with and over the teams of researchers he would like to learn from. In this setup, we examine how the existence of core stable partitions on the distinct market sides, the restriction of agents’ preferences over groups to strict orderings, and the extent to which individual preferences respect common rankings shape the...

Why the dimension matters in ecological models? 97
Ramos-Jiliberto,Rodrigo; Hoecker-Escuti,Francisco; Mena-Lorca,Jaime.
In this work we discuss the ecological and mathematical significance of system's dimension in continuous-time population dynamics models. We show how the system's dimension reflects the ecological assumptions and affects both the spectrum of dynamic output and mathematical tractability of the models. We stress that the model dimension is not always the same as the number of state-variables, and we also present conditions under which the system's dimension is altered

Powdered beverage mix with acerola pulp, whey and maltodextrin 124
Lima,Natalia Duarte de; Afonso,Marcos Rodrigues Amorim; Costa,José Maria Correia da; Carvalho,Juliane Doering Gasparin.
ABSTRACT Mixing acerola pulp with whey, a by-product of the dairy industry, led to this study, whose aim was the development of a powdered beverage mix of acerola pulp, whey and maltodextrin (DE20). To determine the proportions of the mixture, a simplex-centroid mixture design was used. Different proportions of the mixture were dehydrated in a spray dryer at 175 °C. The results were evaluated in relation to hygroscopicity, moisture and ascorbic acid. Higher proportions of whey and pulp increased hygroscopicity and moisture, while maltodextrin reduced these parameters. An increase in pulp content raised the levels of ascorbic acid. The proportions (m m-1) of 50% acerola pulp, 25% whey and 25% maltodextrin resulted in significantly lower hygroscopicity (8.25...

Effect of pH on the copigmentation of anthocyanins from Cabernet Sauvignon grape extracts with organic acids 63
Gauche,Cony; Malagoli,Elisa da Silva; Bordignon Luiz,Marilde Terezinha.
Anthocyanins show low-stability when exposed to different food processing conditions. Copigmentation is one of the main reactions contributing to the in vivo color responsible to the stability of anthocyanins. In the aim of holding the red color, copigmentation effect of organic acids (caffeic, ferulic, gallic and tannic acids) combined with anthocyanins in crude Cabernet Sauvignon (Vitis vinifera L.) grape skin extract at pH values (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, 4.0, 4.5) was evaluated in this research. The maximum copigmentation effect, revealed by the hyperchromic and bathochromic shifts in anthocyanin maximum absorbance wavelength, was obtained at pH 3.3 with every acid used. Anthocyanin stability was followed by measuring the loss of color, thus it...

Cones in the Euclidean space with vanishing scalar curvature 42
Barbosa,João Lucas M.; Carmo,Manfredo do.
Given a hypersurface M on a unit sphere of the Euclidean space, we define the cone based on M as the set of half-lines issuing from the origin and passing through M. By assuming that the scalar curvature of the cone vanishes, we obtain conditions under which bounded domains of such cone are stable or unstable.

Conformational analysis of Pneumococcal Surface Antigen A (PsaA) upon zinc binding by fluorescence spectroscopy 42
Bom,Ana Paula D. Ano; Corrêa,Izabella B.S.; Argondizzo,Ana Paula C.; Medeiros,Marco Alberto; Santos,Roger B. dos; Souza,Theo Luiz F. de; Silva Junior,José G. da.
ABSTRACT PsaA (pneumococcal surface antigen A) is a S. pneumoniae virulence factor that belongs to the metal transport system. The Manganese PsaA binding has been associated with oxidative stress resistance becoming a pivotal element in the bacteria virulence. It has been shown that Zinc inhibits the Manganese acquisition and promotes bacteria toxicity. We have performed a PsaA conformational analysis both in the presence (Zn-rPsaA) and in the absence of Zinc (free-rPsaA). We performed experiments in the presence of different Zinc concentrations to determine the metal minimum concentration which induced a conformational change. The protein in free and Zn-binding condition was also studied in pH ranging 2.6-8.0 and in temperature ranging 25oC-85oC. pH...

Incorporating electrokinetic effects in the porochemoelastic inclined wellbore formulation and solution 42
Nguyen,Vinh X.; Abousleiman,Youname N..
The porochemoelectroelastic analytical models and solutions have been used to describe the response of chemically active and electrically charged saturated porous media such as clays, shales, and biological tissues. However, these attempts have been restricted to one-dimensional consolidation problems, which are very limited in practice and not general enough to serve as benchmark solutions for numerical validation. This work summarizes the general linear porochemoelectroelastic formulation and presents the solution of an inclined wellbore drilled in a fluid-saturated chemically active and ionized formation, such as shale, and subjected to a three-dimensional in-situ state of stress. The analytical solution to this geometry incorporates the coupled solid...

Stability and adaptability analysis of Tabapuã bulls for performance traits according to the herd level 45
Marçal,M.F.; Ferraz Filho,P.B.; Souza,J.C.; Silva,L.O.C.; Gomes,F.J.; Freitas,J.A..
In order to study the stability and adaptability of Tabapuã cattle for the characteristic weight at 120 days of maternal effect, we used methods based on linear regression. The analysis included differences in the expected progeny of five sire sin herds located in four farms in the states of Bahia, (herds 1and 2), Paraná (herd 3) and Minas Gerais (herd 4). The results show that the performance of bulls depend largely on the genetic variability of the matrices for different characteristics in herds studied, allowing the recommendation of a specific breeding herd. Analyses of adaptability and stability discriminated performance differences in herds. Bulls were identified as adapted and perfectly stable, bulls with general adaptation, and with specific...

Isolation and genetic stability of an infectious bronchitis virus strain (IBV) 45
Pereira,C.G.; Saraiva,G.L.; Santos,M.R.; Assao,V.S.; Fietto,J.L.R.; Bressan,G.C.; Almeida,M.R.; Moreira,M.A.S.; Silva Júnior,A..

Computer simulation of stability and control of tractor-trailed implement combinations under different operating conditions 53
Abu-Hamdeh,Nidal H.; Al-Jalil,Hamid F..
The mechanics of a tractor-trailer system moving up and down sloping ground under different operating conditions was theoretically simulated. A computer program was developed to analyze the system to predict the effect of both the trailer loading weight and the slope angle on the tractor stability, traction ability, and drawbar loading. The program was used to analyze a tractor-trailer system moving at uniform motion up and downhill. The results of this analysis showed that the tractor becomes unstable when towing a 3750 kg trailer uphill at 28° slope angle. Insufficient traction occurred at slope angles ranging from 15° to 18° corresponding to trailer weight of 3750 to 750 kg. The parallel component of drawbar pull reached a maximum value of 17318 N when...
