On the identity of the new family Pycnanthaceae Ravenna Gayana Botánica
NICOLA,MARCELA V.
The taxonomic position of a new family of flowering plants recently described, Pycnanthaceae Ravenna, is here discussed; as a result of comparison of type material, this new taxon is placed in the synonymy of the genus Malaxis within the Orchidaceae. A list of species of Malaxis growing in Argentina is provided, as well as a key to differentiate them.

DNA barcoding in Atlantic Forest plants: what is the best marker for Sapotaceae species identification? Genet. Mol. Biol.
Vivas,Caio Vinicius; Moraes,Ramiris César Souza; Alves-Araújo,Anderson; Alves,Marccus; Mariano-Neto,Eduardo; van den Berg,Cássio; Gaiott,Fernanda Amato.
The Atlantic Forest is a phytogeographic domain with a high rate of endemism and large species diversity. The Sapotaceae is a botanical family for which species identification in the Atlantic Forest is difficult. An approach that facilitates species identification in the Sapotaceae is urgently needed because this family includes threatened species and valuable timber species. In this context, DNA barcoding could provide an important tool for identifying species in the Atlantic Forest. In this work, we evaluated four plant barcode markers (matK, rbcL, trnH-psbA and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region -ITS) in 80 samples from 26 species of Sapotaceae that occur in the Atlantic Forest. ITS yielded the highest average interspecific...

Cytotaxonomy of some species and of interspecific hybrids of Pennisetum (Poaceae, Poales) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Techio,Vânia Helena; Davide,Lisete Chamma; Pereira,Antônio Vander; Bearzoti,Eduardo.
Cytotaxonomic studies were carried out on 26 accessions of Pennisetum spp. originating from the Active Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Gado de Leite-Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This study presents cytogenetics and reproductive morphological data for each one of these accessions, which allowed groupings and suggest botanical identifications to be established. The metaphases of the accessions characterized as P. purpureum confirmed the presence of 2n = 28 chromosomes that have already been described for this species. For the hybrids between P. purpureum and P. glaucum and for the hexaploids, resulting from the chromosome duplication of these hybrids, 2n = 21 and 2n = 42 chromosomes were confirmed, respectively. The wild accession identified as P. setosum...

New molecular evidence supports the species status of Kaempfer's Woodpecker (Aves, Picidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Azevedo,Lorena de Sousa; Aleixo,Alexandre; Santos,Marcos Pérsio Dantas; Sampaio,Iracilda; Schneider,Horacio; Vallinoto,Marcelo; Rêgo,Péricles Sena do.
Kaempfer's Woodpecker (Celeus obrieni) is the only species of the genus Celeus endemic to Brazil. The description of this taxon as a subspecies of the Rufous-headed Woodpecker (Celeus spectabilis) was based on a single specimen. While C. obrieni and C. spectabilis are now considered separate species based on morphological and limited molecular evidence, no study has critically tested the reciprocal monophyly and degree of evolutionary independence between these taxa with several specimens. Herein, fragments of the mitochondrial and nuclear DNA of three recently-collected specimens of C. obrieni were analyzed to evaluate the degree of evolutionary differentiation of this taxon with respect to C. spectabilis. The results confirm the reciprocal monophyly...

Positive selection, molecular recombination structure and phylogenetic reconstruction of members of the family Tombusviridae: implication in virus taxonomy Genet. Mol. Biol.
Boulila,Moncef.
A detailed study of putative recombination events and their evolution frequency in the whole genome of the currently known members of the family Tombusviridae, comprising 79 accessions retrieved from the international databases, was carried out by using the RECCO and RDP version 3.31β algorithms. The first program allowed the detection of potential recombination sites in seven out of eight virus genera (Aureusvirus, Avenavirus, Carmovirus, Dianthovirus, Necrovirus, Panicovirus, and Tombusvirus), the second program provided the same results except for genus Dianthovirus. On the other hand, both methods failed to detect recombination breakpoints in the genome of members of genus Machlomovirus. Furthermore, based on Fisher's Exact Test of Neutrality, positive...

Phylogenetic relationships among Capuchin (Cebidae, Platyrrhini) lineages: An old event of sympatry explains the current distribution of Cebus and Sapajus Genet. Mol. Biol.
Martins-Junior,Antonio Marcio Gomes; Carneiro,Jeferson; Sampaio,Iracilda; Ferrari,Stephen F.; Schneider,Horacio.
Abstract Capuchin monkeys are currently represented by four species of Cebus and eight of Sapajus. This group is taxonomically complex and several questions still need to be clarified. In the current study, using mtDNA markers and a larger sample representation than in previous studies, we seek to understand the phylogenetic relationships among the capuchin lineages and their historical biogeography. All 12 species of capuchins were analyzed for the mitochondrial Control Region and Cytochrome b to test two biogeographical hypotheses: “Reinvasion of the Amazon (ROA)” and “Sympatric Evolution (SEV)”. The phylogenetic relationships among distinct lineages within genera is consistent with an evolutionary diversification pattern probably resulting from an...

Иваница, В. А.; Бухтияров, А. Е..
Vibrio campbellii, V. harveyi, V. natriegens, V. nereis, Pseudomonas nautica, Enterobacter...

Перспективы использования компьютерных технологий в области таксономии IBSS Repository
Токарев, Ю. Н.; Лелеков, С. Г.; Мельников, В. В.; Лях, А. М..

A new species of Ibitermes (Isoptera, Termitidae) from the Atlantic forest, northeastern Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Vasconcellos,Alexandre.
The sterile castes of Ibitermes inflatus sp. nov. from Rio Tinto, State of Paraíba, Brazil are described and illustrated. This is the first record of a species of Ibitermes from the Brazilian northeast and from the Atlantic Forest biome. The absence of ridges in the molar plate of the left mandible and the presence of granules of sand and silt mixed with organic matter in advanced stage of decomposition in the digestive tube of workers suggest that the species is a typical humus feeding termite.
