A review of collections from Mexico to northern South America that had been primarily determined as H. barclayana, H. reclinata, and H. ternifolia, or synonyms, showed them to include ten species. Misinterpretations were caused by superficial morphological similarities and traditional nomenclatural errors. The species now recognized include six previously described: H. barclayana, H. hookeriana (formerly included in H. reclinata), H. reclinata, H. sanctae-marthae, H. ternifolia, and H. transiens. Four new species are proposed: H. mcvaughii, H. silvicola, and H. venezuelana; H. trianae was previously recognized at varietal level and is elevated to species. A neotype is chosen for H. reclinata. Lectotypes are designated for H. velutina (= H. barclayana) and... |

Two new species of Cladosporium found on necrotic needles of Pinus ponderosa trees in Patagonia, Argentina, are described as C. chubutense and C. pini-ponderosae. An additional isolate from dead leaves of Cortaderia collected in Colombia, which is a sister taxon to the species occurring on Pinus, is described as Cladosporium colombiae. These species are phylogenetically closely related, but differ from each other and other known species by multilocus sequence data, phenetic characters and culture characteristics |

Abstract Although temperature has far-reaching effects on fish biology, the thermal tolerance ranges of most freshwater fish species are unknown. This lack of information precludes forecasting responses to climatic change and does not allow for comparative analyses that may inform evolutionary and biogeographic studies. We used the critical thermal methodology to quantify acclimation capacity and thermal tolerance in the Neotropical freshwater species Poecilia caucana . For fish acclimated to 20˚C, 25ºC, and 28ºC, critical thermal minima (CTmin) were 12.52 ± 0.62ºC, 13.41 ± 0.56ºC and 14.24 ± 0.43ºC respectively, and critical thermal maxima (CTmax) were 38.43 ± 0.64ºC, 40.28 ± 0.92ºC and 41.57 ± 0.27ºC, respectively. Both CTmin and CTmax changed with... |

ABSTRACT The black prochilodus (Prochilodus nigricans) is one of the most landed scaled fish species of the middle and upper parts of the Putumayo River, in the tri-national area between Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Despite its importance, biological information about this species is too scant to guide fisheries management in this portion of the Colombian Amazon. In this study, 10884 individuals were sampled in the fish markets of Puerto Leguízamo between 2009 and 2017. This sampling was used to document reproductive patterns, but also growth and mortality parameters from length frequency distributions. The size at which all fish were mature was 22 cm Ls, which should be the established as the minimum size of capture to ensure that all fish have had a... |

We review species of Parodon Valenciennes, 1850 from the Magdalena, Cauca, Orinoco, Amazonas, Atrato and Caribbean-Guajira River basins of Colombia using meristic and morphological characters. We recognize eight valid species, five previously described: P. apolinari Myers, from the Orinoco River basin; P. buckleyi Boulenger and P. pongoensis (Allen) from the upper Amazon; P. caliensis Boulenger, from the upper Cauca River drainage; and P. suborbitalis Valenciennes, from Lake Maracaibo basin. Three new species are described: P. alfonsoi, from the lower Magdalena River drainage; P. magdalenensis, from the middle Magdalena and upper Cauca River drainages; and P. atratoensis, from the Atrato River basin. We redescribe Parodon suborbitalis using type specimens... |

ABSTRACT We present new distributional records for two Colombian species of Bittacidae. Pazius convolutus García-García & Cadena-Castañeda, 2015 and Bittacus panamensis Byers, 1958 previously known from Cundinamarca department are herein newly recorded from Santander and Magdalena, respectively. In addition, we recorded Bittacus pignatelli Navás, 1932 in Colombia for the first time, increasing the number of species of Mecoptera in the country. Comments about mating behavior of P. convolutus, as well as a distribution map and a check-list of Colombian species of Mecoptera are included. |
