Reflections on the Journal of Cooperatives 1986-2003 AgEcon

The Journal of Cooperatives (formally titled the Journal of Agricultural Cooperation) was published as a print journal from 1986 to 2003. The journal resumed publication as an electronic journal in 2007. This article provides a short history of the journal, analyzes trends in authorship, institution, content, research method and intended audience, and considers issues relating to electronic publication. The journal’s historical and current mission statements are also discussed, and a future thrust for the journal is presented.

Adversities, generally, have the capacity to generate behaviors that aggregate people. The objective of this work is to propose an analytical structure, using approaches such as social entrepreneurship, culture, knowledge and cooperation, to treat systematically the competitiveness dilemma that agricultural cooperatives face. The premise of this structure is that the social entrepreneurship that supports organizations such as agricultural cooperatives brings together culture, knowledge and a cooperative stance, which tend to influence the performance of the organization through their presence in its other internal factors. Doing Business in New York State: Structures and Strategies AgEcon

This publication reviews the legal and business structure alternatives available to those forming business structures in New York State. A framework is developed for assessing various business structural options. Six business organizational forms are discussed, including: 1) sole proprietorships, 2) business corporations, 3) general partnerships, 4) limited partnerships, 5) cooperative corporations, and 6) limited liability companies. Various organizational features of these forms of business are reviewed including: personal stakeholder liability, means of formation, duration of business structure, system of governance, taxation, property interests, securities registration, and anti-trust limitations.
