Teixeira,RSC; Cardoso,WM; Lopes,ES; Rocha-e-Silva,RC; Albuquerque,AH; Horn,RV; Salles,RPR.
The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Salmonella in common quails submitted to forced molting. A total of 240 quails were divided at 40 weeks of age into four groups: CG (control, quails not submitted to molting); FM (fasting method); WM (fed wheat midds ad libitum); and ZM (zinc oxide method). From each group, 10 cloacal swabs, 10 fecal samples, and 20 egg samples were collected before molting (two weeks) and after molting (two weeks). The microbiological procedures for Salmonella spp. identification were performed in four steps. The agglutination test, using somatic and flagellar antigens, was used to confirm Salmonella-suspected colonies. According to the methodology applied, none of the samples was positive for Salmonella spp. The...

Cooling of curimba (Prochilodus lineatus) embryos using different concentrations of dimethyl sulphoxide and methanol R. Bras. Zootec.
Machado,Gilmara Junqueira; Murgas,Luis David Solis; Palhares,Priscila Cotta; Assis,Isadora de Lima; Castro,Tássia Flávia Dias.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using different concentrations (5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5%) of two permeating cryoprotectants, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and methanol, on Prochilodus lineatus embryos while being subjected to cooling for 2, 4, 6, and 8 h at 4 °C. We analyzed the hatching rate, viable larvae, and counts of hatched and spoiled eggs and those that did not complete their development after cooling. We observed a significant interaction among variables, permeable cryoprotectant concentration, and cooling time, having the increase of these factors caused a reduction in hatching rate. The curimba embryos showed a higher sensitivity to cold at a temperature of 4 °C for 6 and 8 h, directly influencing the production of viable larvae....

Comparison on animal production in organic and conventional systems MV&Z
Rossi, Gabriel Augusto Marques; Lemos, Paulo de Paula Lopes.
The market for organic products is increasing globally, seeking to fulfill the needs and expectations of consumers who believe it’s a healthier food. There are many controversies found in studies that assess primarily the physical-chemical, microbiological and the presence of this type of food of animal origin. This review aimed to evaluate the main differences between animal foods such as meat, milk, honey, eggs and fish produced in organic systems compared to those produced in conventional systems. The main differences are related to the physical-chemical food and no relevant differences were found between the possible presence of chemical or biological hazards in food of animal origin.

First data on dinosaur eggs and clutches from Pinyes locality (Upper Cretaceous, Southern Pyrenees) Ameghiniana
Vila,Bernat; Jackson,Frankie; Galobart,Àngel.
We describe a new megaloolithid locality discovered near Coll de Nargó (Catalonia, northeastern Iberian Peninsula). Eggs at the Pinyes site occur within extensively developed, vertically-stacked paleosols of an alluvial system. Eight clutches were excavated and mapped and biological and taphonomic aspects recorded. Three-dimensional maps were constructed using a Trimble total station, supplementing traditional planview mapping to allow more accurate interpretation of egg and clutch distribution. The Megaloolithus siruguei eggs are compressed, presenting an ellipsoidal shape. The three-dimensional geometry of two large clutches suggests that the eggs were laid in shallow, bowl-shaped depressions. Tangential thin sections of eggshells also reveal abundant...
