Physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid profile of meat from lambs with different genotypes and diets R. Bras. Zootec.
Costa,Roberto Germano; Santos,Neube Michel dos; Queiroga,Rita de Cássia Ramos do Egypto; Sousa,Wandrick Hauss de; Madruga,Marta Suely; Cartaxo,Felipe Queiroga.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and fatty acid profile of meat from Santa Inês, Dorper × Santa Inês, and undefined-breed lambs finished in a feedlot system according to two forage:concentrate ratios (50:50 and 20:80) in the diet. Overall, 54 non-castrated animals were used (with an average initial weight of 23±1.5 kg at 150 days old) and were slaughtered when they reached 36 kg of live weight or 63 days of confinement. Diets with high concentrate levels favored meat production with higher protein content. Among the saturated fatty acids, only heptadecanoic (C17:0) and arachidic acids (C20:0) differed among the treatments. The amount of oleic acid detected in the meat ranged from 49.2 to 51.9 g/100 g, making this one the...

Forage yield and persistence of red clover progenies in two environments Scientia Agricola
Montardo,Daniel Portella; Dall'Agnol,Miguel; Paim,Nilton Rodrigues.
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is one of the most important temperate legume species, used to lessen the lack of forage during the critical fall-winter period in Rio Grande do Sul, RS, Brazil. However, its utilization has been restricted mainly because of its lack of persistence. This work evaluates the dry matter yield and persistence of red clover half-sib progenies in two physiographic regions of RS: "Depressão Central", in Eldorado do Sul and "Encosta Superior do Nordeste", in Veranópolis. Experiments were carried out for two growing seasons and results were compared to two red clover commercial checks, Qüiñequeli and Estanzuela 116. The region of Veranópolis was more adequate for red clover forage production, enabling better yield and persistence....

Aromatic rice is a specific group of rice having high price in the world rice market. Fragrant trait is therefore included in the principal goal for rice production and improvement. A recessive gene on chromosome 8 has been elucidated to be homology with the gene encoded for betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BADH2). In fragrant rice this gene was mutated by 8 bp deletion in exon 7 resulting in accumulation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP). In this study, BADEX7-5 primer which is specific for fragrant gene (badh2) was tested by conventional PCR and Real-time PCR. Both methods showed the same PCR product size of 95 and 103 bp in fragrant and non-fragrant rice, respectively. High Resolutions Melting analysis demonstrated that the fragrant and non-fragrant...

CYP2E1 enzyme is related to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) due to its ability for reactive oxygen species production, which can be influenced by polymorphisms in the gene. The aim of this study was to investigate hepatic levels, activity, and polymorphisms of the CYP2E1 gene to correlate it with clinical and histological features in 48 female obese NASH patients. Subjects were divided into three groups: (i) normal; (ii) steatosis; and (iii) steatohepatitis. CYP2E1 protein level was assayed in microsomes from liver biopsies, and in vivo chlorzoxazone hydroxylation was determined by HPLC. Genomic DNA was isolated for genotype analysis through PCR. The results showed that liver CYP2E1 content was significantly higher in the steatohepatitis (45%; p=0.024)...
