ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate polymorphisms both in exons 1 and 3 of prolactin (PRL) gene for milk productivity of Anatolian water buffalo breed in Sivas province in Turkey. Blood samples were collected from 129 male and female water buffaloes and DNA was isolated by using phenol/chloroform method. Samples of DNA were amplified and resulting PCR products were digested with RsaI (for exons 1 and 3) and HaeIII (for exon 1). Allelic polymorphisms were determined by separation of fragments obtained from digested PCR products in 3% agarose gel electrophoresis. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a freqüência do gene causador da síndrome do estresse em suíno (PSS) e sua associação com características reprodutivas em marrãs híbridas. Setenta e duas marrãs híbridas Landrace x Large White, provenientes de granjas comerciais localizadas na região de Ponte Nova - Minas Gerais, foram analisadas para a presença da mutação PSS. Foi efetuada a caracterização bioquímica, genotípica e a análise de virulência e patogenicidade de amostras isoladas de C. pseudotuberculosis. Foram utilizadas cinco amostras: CBO (Corynebacterium Ovino) 2512, CBO 28033, CBC (Corynebacterium Caprinos) 70D, CBC 118, CBC NPC e as amostras controle 1002 (Linfovac) e 00512 (Fiocruz). Para a identificação bioquímica, foi utilizado o kit APIcoryne (Bio Merieux-França). La caracterización genética del ganado autóctono supone conocer la situación de las poblaciones para su conservación. Aunque en Venezuela se han realizado estudios de caracterización de ganado Carora y Criollo Limonero, estos han sido aislados y no se han efectuado con la intención de esclarecer si la estructura genética para los genes de las tres principales proteínas lácteas, en dichas razas bovinas venezolanas, Criollo Limonero y Carora, refleja su variabilidad genética. Cercospora kikuchii, involved with the defoliation of soybean (Glycine max) plants, is normally associated with Septoria glycines in late season. Seventy-two isolates from different regions in Brazil, obtained mainly from purple stained seeds, showed phenotypic variation. Cercosporin content and rate of colony growth was higly variable among isolates. A strong correlation between cercosporin content and virulence was identified. Genetic variation among and within populations was evaluated based on 86 RAPD loci. The RAPD analysis clustered all isolates into seven groups. Twenty isolates of four fungal species, agents of "Helminthosporium" diseases in cereals, were collected from different regions: nine Bipolarisoryzae isolated from rice (Oryza sativa), seven B.sorokiniana from wheat (Triticum aestivum), two B. maydis, and two Exserohilumturcicum from maize (Zea mays). The strains were compared by PCR-RFLP and RAPD analysis. Size polymorphism among the isolates in the ITS region comprising the 5.8 S rDNA indicated genetic differences among the isolates, while a UPGMA phenogram constructed after the digestion of this region with restriction enzymes showed inter- and intra-specific polymorphism. Macrophomina phaseolina has been considered one of the most prevalent soybean (Glycine max) pathogens in Brazil. No genetic resistance has been determined in soybean and very little is known about the genetic diversity of this pathogen in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Fifty-five isolates from soybean roots were collected in different regions and analyzed through RAPD for genetic diversity. The UPGMA cluster analysis for 74 loci scored permitted identification of three divergent groups with an average similarity of 99%, 92% and 88%, respectively.
