Nonparametric stability methods for interpreting genotype by environment interaction of bread wheat genotypes (Triticum aestivum L.) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Akcura,Mevlut; Kaya,Yuksel.
Evaluation of performance stability and high yield is essential for yield trials conducted in different environments. We determined the stability of 10 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes (5 cultivars and 5 advanced lines) using nonparametric stability measures and compared nonparametric stability statistics across 19 environments in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey. Experiments were setup in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Nonparametric stability measures revealed that AL-2, Karahan-99 and Altay-2000 were the most stable and well adapted genotypes across the 19 environments. In addition, it was concluded that graphs of mean grain yield (t ha-1) vs. nonparametric measures (Si(¹), Si(²), S(³), Si(6) and σgy) values...

Echer,Márcia de M; Zoz,Tiago; Rossol,Charles Douglas; Steiner,Fábio; Castagnara,Deise D; Lana,Maria do C.
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of plant spacing and nitrogen fertilization on Swiss chard's yield, from September to November 2009. The experimental design was of randomized blocks in split plot with four replications. In the plots were allocated the two plant spacings (0.30 and 0.50 m) and in the subplots the five doses of nitrogen (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1). The crop was harvested 90 days after transplanting. The plant spacing of 0.50 m provided increased production of total fresh weight of shoot (961.7 g plant-1) and marketable (873.1 g plant-1). However, the highest total yield (77.8 t ha-1) and marketable (64.5 t ha-1) was achieved with the smaller spacing between plants (0.30 m). The N rates applied in coverage until 160 kg...

Guidelines for irrigation scheduling of peach palm for heart-of-palm production in the São Francisco Valley, Brazil Horticultura Brasileira
Bassoi,Luís Henrique; Flori,José Egídio; Silva,Emanuel Elder G. da; Silva,José Antonio M. e.
The water consumption, crop coefficient and effective rooting depth of the peach palm cultivated in a Vertisol were evaluated over two years and three months, from planting to fifth harvest, in Juazeiro, Bahia State, Brazil. Plants were irrigated by microsprinklers under two irrigation treatments, full irrigation (FI) and reduced irrigation (RI), and the amount of water applied in RI corresponded to 75% of that of FI. Water consumption and crop coefficient has increased markedly at the first harvest (7.3 mm day-1 and 1.2, respectively, in FI treatment) in the thirteenth month, as a consequence of plant canopy development. After that, plants were harvested every three or four months, and these values varied a little due to decrease of the stand. The...

Production and resistance of three scallion cultivars to pink root Horticultura Brasileira
Marcuzzo,Leandro L; Carvalho,Jaqueline.
The production of scallion has been widely exploited on small farms, since it requires little care and is largely commercialized close to the production sites. Pink root, caused by Phoma terrestris (syn. Pyrenochaeta terrestris),is among the main diseases affecting this crop. However, little information on aspects related to yield and few cultivars resistant to the disease are available. In this study we evaluated these variables on Konatsu, Natsu and Nebuka cultivars. The experiment was carried out in Lontras, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, in a complete randomized blocks design with four replications. After 80 days of transplantation the following parameters were evaluated: plant mass, total and marketable number of leaves, total and marketable mass of...

Adequate timing for heart-of-palm harvesting in King palm Horticultura Brasileira
Bovi,Marilene L.A.; Saes,Luiz Alberto; Uzzo,Roberta Pierry; Spiering,Sandra H..
Heart-of-palm, palm heart, or "palmito" can be considered as a non-conventional vegetable, largely consumed in Brazil and exported to more than sixty countries. Timing of heart-of-palm harvesting is a critical issue in palmito agribusiness, since it affects yield, quality and costs. A three-year field experiment was utilized to identify the correct timing for king palm heart-of-palm harvesting, from the standpoint of maximizing yield and minimizing growing period. The experimental site was located at Pariqueraçu, Vale do Ribeira, a region where palmito agribusiness has increased recently, due to adequate climatic conditions, low costs and high industry demand. Crop was grown in 2 x 0.75 m spacing, utilizing six-month old seedlings. Growth was assessed...

Mulches for yacon cultivation Horticultura Brasileira
Oliveira,Fabio Luiz; Venturim,Cristiano Henrique P; Silva,Diego Mathias N; Quaresma,Mateus Augusto L; Dalvi,Leandro P.
ABSTRACT In Brazil, studies on commercial exploitation of yacon are still scarce. A growing interest in this vegetable has demanded some researches on this crop cultivation management, though. Considering that yacon has a long cycle, which exposes the soil, studies on mulch management will be of great value. We used a randomized complete block design, with five replicates, under different soil mulches for yacon cultivation: two plastic film covers (black and double-sided), four mulches (corn husk, coffee husk in three levels), and the control (bare soil). Plastic mulch can be used for yacon cultivation, considering that the double sided plastic provides greater production of total roots; however, the same yield of the most valued roots was obtained using...
