A century ago, China’s sustainable agricultural practices were documented and praised by US Professor of Agriculture, Franklin King, for the successful stewardship of agricultural land over four millennia. Over the past decade, Australia and China have converted more land to organic agriculture than any other of the 160 countries reporting organic agriculture statistics (for Australia, 4.3 m newly converted hectares, and for China, 1.8 m hectares). Australia accounts for about a third of the world’s certified organic agriculture hectares. China’s ‘economic miracle’ has been at the great cost of environmental degradation. There is a role for the development of organic agriculture in China to help achieve a clean green future. Added to this, consumers want... |

Tasmania enjoys a reputation as clean and green. It offers an apparent good fit with a vision of organic production as well as some natural advantages. Tasmania’s moratorium on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is an advantage for organic production. This paper presents some context for the progress of Tasmania from the puffery of ‘clean and green’ to the standard of organic. Australia leads the world accounting for 45% of the world’s certified organic agricultural land (22.69 m ha of 50.92 m ha.). Tasmania has been an early mover as an advocate of organics with organised advocacy dating from 1946. Despite this enthusiasm, Tasmania only accounts for 0.01% of Australia’s certified organic agricultural land and 4% of Australia’s certified organic... |

Few agriculture books achieve the status of ‘classic’. F. H. King’s book Farmers of Forty Centuries or Permanent Agriculture in China, Korea and Japan was privately published in Wisconsin, USA, in 1911. The book had an in-auspicious start, and the longevity and acclaim that this book has since achieved must have been, then, barely conceivable. The author was dead, the book was incomplete, and there was no commercial publisher. Yet through a combination of perhaps luck and circumstance the book was ‘resurrected’ in 1927 by a London publisher, Jonathan Cape, who then kept it in print for more than two decades. The London issue of King’s book was favorably cited in the 1930s and 1940s by leading agriculture and organic agriculture writers including: Lord... |

In order to examine the nutrient content, and the distribution and accumulation patterns of individual nutrients in the natural secondary forests (NSFs), sample NSF plots were selected in the Caijiachuan watershed on the Loess Plateau. On the basis of a comprehensive field inventory to the NSFs in Caijiachuan watershed, a 40 m × 40 m sample plot was selected as the representative plot. Each tree plant was then measured to select the standard tree in accordance with a diameter-scale. For measurement of the biomass in the above-ground part of the tree, it was divided into parts and measured. The study measured the concentration of the 5 major macronutrients (namely N, P, K, Ca and Mg) and the 8 major micronutrients (namely Cd, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni and B)... |

This paper introduces the model of China's direct grain subsidy policy, adopts computable general equilibrium (CGE) theory, and advances the scheme of constructing the model of China's direct grain subsidy policy. On the basis of some assumptions, such as conforming to the complete competition of market, inexistence of move of capital and labor forces among countries, unchanged exchange rate and incomplete substitution, and the main body of behavior comprising representative households, producers, local government and central government, the model established in this paper includes production module and demand module. Moreover, the model takes into account equilibrium structure, the definition of profiting and macro condition for closure, the related... |

This paper introduces the approach types of agricultural technology promotion we can choose in the process of new countryside construction, and there are mainly 6 types, namely government-domination-oriented approach, market-development-oriented approach, university (scientific research institution) -education-oriented approach, farmers' participation-oriented approach, direct-training-oriented approach and individual-service oriented approach including 20 models. The problems existing in the grass-root agricultural technology promotion in the process of new village construction are analyzed as follows: the awareness of innovation is not strong; scientific research, education, and promotion are disjointed; the construction of specific work system lags... |

Taking Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, China as an example, evaluation index system of urban land intensive use is established from four aspects of land economic benefit, land utilization degree, investment intensity, and sustainable utilization. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the weight of evaluation index in research region. Taking the index numerical value of Hubei Province as the standard value, index value of the research region is evaluated. Combining with the index weight obtained by AHP, urban land intensive use is evaluated by the weighted average. Result shows that land intensive use level of Zhongxiang City is much lower than the average level of Hubei Province. Therefore, urban land of Zhongxiang City is of is great... |

From the perspective of civil subject theory, law of value, comparative law and history of laws, the thesis expounds that the contract on the transfer of the contractual right of rural lands is in nature a civil contract instead of an administrative one. Then it explores the defects in the contract from the viewpoint of legal value goal, contract law and legal sociology, that is, the relevant provisions in Rural Land Contract Law and Explanations of Supreme People’s Court about the Issues concerning the Laws Applicable to the Trial of Cases of Disputes over Rural Land Contracting go against the principle of free contracting and run counter to the legal value goal of justice, so they do not achieve good implementing effect. Finally, the thesis demonstrates... |

Based on the introduction of the general situation of the research area, the SWOT analysis is applied to study the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats of the industrial development in Three Gorges Reservoir area. The strengths are represented by the following four aspects: abundant agricultural resources, rich tourism resources, rich mineral resources and rich hydro energy. The weaknesses are analyzed from the following three aspects: the backward infrastructure, the acute conflict of the emigration of manufactures and the poor exploitation of advantageous resources. The opportunities of industrial development, which cover the opportunities bought by the guidance of national policies and preferential policies, by the improvement of traffic... |

Based on the conclusion of the related researches on China’s rural poverty alleviation policies and poverty problems, studies of Chinese scholars on the convergence between rural minimum subsistence system and the development policies of poverty alleviation are illustrated and personal understandings proposed. On the one hand, considering the actual situations of the quickening of China’s urbanization and deepening of poverty, it is necessary to make significant adjustment and transformation in China’s poverty reduction policies and minimum subsistence security system. On the other hand, it is pointed out that there is no omnipotent experience to follow in the convergence of minimum subsistence security system and poverty reduction policies. The actual... |
