Genetic divergence among accessions of Axonopus jesuiticus x A. scoparius based on morphological and agronomical traits Anais da ABC (AABC)
SCHEFFER-BASSO,SIMONE M.; FAVARETTO,ADRIANA; FELINI,VANDERLEIA; GOMES,CLAUDINEI C.; CARNEIRO,LUIS E.; CECCHIN,KALINCA.
This study had the objective of assessing the genetic divergence in giant missionary grass (Axonopus jesuiticus x A. scoparius) germplasm based on morphological and agronomic traits. Five accessions were evaluated in the field: V14337, V14403, V14404, V14405 and V14406. Three contrasting groups were formed using the UPGMA clustering method: V14337 and V14404 formed one group, V14403 and V14405 formed another, and V14406 was isolated from the other accessions. The most striking traits for the identification of the accessions were the height of the plant and the change color of the leaf. Only V14406 accession had purplish green leaves. The other four accessions differed with regards to plant height and dry matter production, with superiority of V14337 and...

Azevêdo,J.A.G.; Valadares Filho,S.C.; Pina,D.S.; Detmann,E.; Pereira,L.G.R.; Valadares,R.F.D.; Fernandes,H.J.; Costa e Silva,L.F.; Benedeti,P.B..
Fifty-seven by-products were collected from regions throughout Brazil. Chemical composition, in vitro neutral detergent fiber digestibility (IVNDFD), and total digestible nutrients (TDN) were determined with the objective of grouping by-products with similar nutritional characteristics. The by-products belonging to group one (G1) presented the highest content of neutral detergent fiber exclusive of ash and nitrogenous compounds [aNDFom(n)] and lowest energy content, with 42.5% and 38.8% of IVNDFD and TDN, respectively. A new cluster analysis was carried in order to better characterize G2 by-products, six subgroups (SGs) were established (SG1 to SG6). SG1 by-products had the highest and the lowest values for lignin and TDN, respectively. SG2 by-products had...

Effect of grain maturity stage on the quality of sorghum BRS-610 silages Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Faria Júnior,W.G; Gonçalves,L.C; Ribeiro Júnior,G.O; Carvalho,W.T.V; Maurício,R.M; Rodrigues,J.A.S; Faria,W.G; Saliba,E.O.S; Rodriguez,N.M; Borges,A.L.C.C.
The quality of sorghum BRS-610 silages in seven stages of grain maturity, between the milky and dry stage, for determination of the ideal moment of ensilage was evaluated. The silos were open after 56 days of fermentation. The values for dry matter of silages increased from 199 to 473g/kg or from 19.9 to 47.3%, with the advance of stage maturity of grains. As for the quality of fermentation, the silages may be classified as excellent quality in every stage of maturity. The lower values of neutral detergent fiber, 539g/kg or 53.9%, and acid detergent fiber, 307g/kg or 30.7%, were observed between the milky/dough to dough/dent stages. Regression analysis indicated an increase in values of lignin - 0.3 unit por stage - and reduction in values of in vitro dry...

Prediction of the Nutritive Value of Pasture Silage by Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Restaino,Ernesto A; Fernández,Enrique G; La Manna,Alejandro; Cozzolino,Daniel.
The aim of this study was to investigate the use of near infrared reflectance (NIRS) spectroscopy to predict the nutritive value of silages from pastures and to assess the effect of silage structure type (e.g. bunker and bag silos) on the NIRS predictions. Samples (n = 120) were sourced from commercial farms and analyzed in a NIRS monochromator instrument (NIR Systems, Silver Spring, Maryland, USA) using wavelengths between 400 and 2500 nm in reflectance. Calibration models were developed between chemical and NIRS spectral data using partial least squares (PLS) regression. The coefficients of determination in calibration (R²) and the standard error in cross validation (SECV) were 0.73 (SECV: 1.2%), 0.81 (SECV: 2.0%), 0.75 (SECV: 6.6%), 0.80 (SECV: 6.7%),...

G.L. Arzate-Vázquez, F.A. Castrejón-Pineda, R. Rosiles-Martínez, S. Carrillo-Pita, S. Angeles-Campos, and E. Vargas-Bello-Pérez. 2016. Effect of genus and growth stage on the chemical and mineral composition of tropical grasses used to feed dairy cows. Cien. Inv. Agr. 43(3): 476-485. In tropical production systems, dairy cows are rarely supplemented with minerals, which often lead to mineral imbalances. Grasses grown together in the same soil type and sampled at the same growth stage can vary widely in chemical and mineral composition; therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the chemical and mineral composition of Urochloa spp., Megathyrsus spp., and Andropogon spp. at three different stages of growth in the same soil type. The content...

Kinetic parameters of ruminai degradation of Marandu grass silage supplemented with brewer’s grain Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Ferreira,Daniele de J; Zanine,Anderson de M; Lana,Rogério de P; de Souza,Alexandre L; Negrão,Fagton M; Geron,Luiz J. V; Parente,Henrique N; Dantas,Carlos C. O.
This study measured the kinetic parameters of the ruminal degradation of the silage of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu. The experiment had a completely randomized design with five treatments and five repetitions; the treatments featured the inclusión of natural brewer’s grain to Marandu grass silage at levels of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40%. The regression equation for the degradability of the soluble Fraction A of dry matter showed a linearly increasing pattern (P<0.05) with an addition of 0.19% for each 1% of brewer’s grain included. The percentage of insoluble potentially degradable fraction (B) of dry matter was reduced linearly (P<0.05). The ruminal degradation rate in the dry matter (c), expressed as % h-1, increased linearly...
