Modelling Nonlinear Daily Evapotranspiration using Variable Infiltration Capacity Model and Artificial Neural Network CIGR Journal
Adamala, Sirisha.
Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key variable for hydrologic, climatic and agricultural studies. Accurate quantification of this variable is of utmost importance for irrigation management and crop productivity. With the availability of only meteorological variables in climatic stations, reference gross evapotranspiration (ETo) estimation is becoming a challenging task. Hence, there is a scope to estimate the ETo using various physical and empirical methods. Among physical methods, FAO-56 PM method is best and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models are accurate empirical methods. Further, ETo can also be estimated using a water budget approach i.e. variable infiltration capacity (VIC) model, which accounts for the sub-grid variability of land use and land cover...

Ekka, Utpal; Singh, Naseeb; Bharti, Nitin; Sahoo, P Kumar; Singh, Mukesh Kumar.
Broadcasting method for jute seed planting, is time consuming, create constraints in weeding, thinning, fertilizer application and harvesting. Broadcasting method requires thinning operation within three weeksdue to high plant population. Both weeding and thinning are done by hand hoe, which is tedious and time consuming operation. The hand weeding is performed in bending or squatting posture, hence there is increased incidence of knee osteoarthritis amongst squatters who squat for hours a day for many years. Use of seed drill or planter for jute seed reduces burden in intercultural operation and makes the jute cultivation profitable by uniform plant population and saving of seed. Low cost mechanical seed metering system for use in planterwas designed to...

Data Points and Duration for Estimating Fuel Consumption of a Diesel Engine CIGR Journal
Dennis G. Watson; Tony V. Harrison; Richard W. Steffen.
Accurate measurement of fuel consumption is required to quantify the efficiency of an engine orpredict emissions. As part of a larger project, accurate instantaneous fuel consumption data was required for a John Deere 4045T diesel engine. While establishing test criteria, it became evident that literature did not provide clear recommendations on the number of data points or time duration for data collection, for a diesel engine. Fuel consumption tests were conducted using up to 15 data points of percent fuel rate and up to 15 min of data collection. ased on statistical analysis of test results, at least 2 data points (0% and 100% of fuel rate) and 2 min of data collection are recommended for similar fuel-injected, diesel engine fuel rate tests. When a...

Wear on circular orifice plate of hollow-cone type agrochemical spray nozzles CIGR Journal
KUMAR SINGH, AKSHAY; Bhatt, Yogesh Chandra.
An orifice plate of spray nozzles changes pressurized agrochemical liquid spray into the finer droplets in order to accomplish application of pesticide on to the field crops. Application rate of pesticide per unit area (L/ha) is an important pre-defined parameter for a particular crop which is governed by the combined effect of flow rate per unit of time (L/min.) and the time of cover the unit area (hr/ha). The study has revealed the failures of orifices of hollow-cone nozzles, due to wear, to obey the constant rate of discharge of liquid pesticides with the usage of time. Hollow-cone nozzles with different materials of constructions (plastic, stainless steel and ceramic) were tested under the pressure of 3.5, 7.0, and 10.5 kg-cm-2 respectively. Material...
