Morphogenesis of a Tunica Mucosa of Oviduct of the Hens International Journal of Morphology
Khokhlov,R. YU.; Kuznetcov,S. I..
The authors have used non-laying and laying hens (Lohmann Brown), in order to study morphological aspects development of tunica mucosa of the oviduct. The results showed that the oviduct of the hen is well-developed at the left side, atrophied at the right side and consists of five different regions: infundibulum, magnum, isthmus, shell-gland and excretory section (vagina). During 1-120 days in oviduct is the most advanced caudal part, where height and width folds of a tunica mucosa is more than in cranial part, that probably, is caused with the future function of these departments. In the period oviposition (150-540 days), the tunica mucosa is most advanced in such departments, as: magnum, isthmus, shell-gland

Morphological Analysis on the Occipital Condyles and Review of the Literature International Journal of Morphology
Aragão,José Aderval; de Santana,Guilherme Machado; da Cruz de Moraes,Rebeca Zelice; Aragão,Iapunira Catarina Sant'Anna; Aragão,Felipe Matheus Sant'Anna; Reis,Francisco Prado.
Most anatomical and biomechanical studies on the craniovertebral junction have involved morphological or morphometric analysis on the occipital condyles. Some of these studies have provided important findings based on different surgical procedures. The shape, size and angle of the occipital condyles and the locations of the intracranial and extracranial orifices of the hypoglossal canal are highly important because they may affect the lateral approaches to the craniovertebral junction. To determine the frequency of occurrence of different morphological types of occipital condyle. 214 occipital condyles in 107 dry human skulls were analyzed and the classification of their morphological types was determined through assessing digitized photographic images....

Morphological Distinguish of Rupture Status between Sidewall and Bifurcation Cerebral Aneurysms International Journal of Morphology
Qiu,Tianlun; Xing,Haiyan.
We suspect that morphological change of two types of aneurysms in ruptured and unruptured aneurysms are distinguishing because of different location and haemodynamics. So it is necessary to discuss sidewall and bifurcation type aneurysms in ruptured and unruptured state respectively. We used 209 consecutive aneurysms (144 ruptured, 65 bifurcation type) to assess the following parameters in 3D: maximum diameter (Dmax), maximum height (Hmax), aspect ratio (AR), size ratio (SR), height/width ratio (HW), bottleneck factor (BNF, width/neck) and inflow angle (IR). These aneurysms were divided into four groups by whether ruptured and sidewall or bifurcation. 4 groups were pairwise compared by univariate analysis and some parameters with significant variation were...

External Morphological Features of the Gills of Ichthyophis bannanicus Embryo (Amphibia, Gymnophiona) International Journal of Morphology
Meng,Shaoquan; Bei,Yongjian; Li,Guifen; Lu,Ronghui; Qi,Baomin; Wu,Defeng.
The gills of Ichthyophis bannanicus have yet to be investigated. This paper describes the external morphological features of the gills of mature I. bannanicus embryos exhibiting three pairs of gills on their neck region. Each gill is composed of an axis and filaments. In newly released embryos, the filaments and the axis form at approximately 90° relative to each other; eventually, this angle decreases and the color of the gill fades. The filaments on the axis are arranged alternately, and their spacing varies. The mid-pair of gills is significantly longer by nearly twofold than the front and rear pairs. Likewise, the lengths of the front and rear pairs of gills are not significantly different (P >0.05); for the same pair of gills, the lengths of...

Cortés-Delgado,Natalia; Pérez-Torres,Jairo; Hoyos,Julio Mario.
Transparency technique to demonstrate cartilage and skeleton has been used from years 70. This consists basically of the muscle digestion through an enzyme (trypsine), and the staining of cartilage and skeleton using alcian blue and alizarin red on specimens previously fixed to formalin. This technique can be used to study the state of the cartilage and the bones in different stages of the development and to observe abnormalitys. Also it can be used to demonstrate museum specimen skeleton preserved in liquid. In this article is showed the application of this technique for the first time in rodents and adult bats, besides some annotations to optimize the procedure.

Morphological and Morphometric Study of the Muscle Fibers and Neuromuscular Junctions of the Extensor Digitorum Longus in Aged Rats Submitted to Maternal Protein Restriction International Journal of Morphology
Jeronimo,L. C; Confortim,H. D; Centenaro,L. A; Brancalhão,R. M. C; Pinheiro,P. F. F; Matheus,S. M. M; Torrejais,M. M.
Protein restriction implies the functional involvement of several systems and organs, including the skeletal muscle, because it is a protein reservoir in the body. This study sought to analyze the morphological and morphometric features of the muscle fibers and neuromuscular junctions (NMJs) of the extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle in rats at 365 days of age, submitted to maternal protein restriction during the gestation and lactation periods. Wistar rats were divided into two groups: a Control Group - mothers fed a normal-protein diet (17 % protein) during pregnancy and lactation; and a Restricted Group - mothers fed a low-protein diet (6 % protein) during pregnancy and lactation. The pups were kept with the mother throughout the lactation period (21...

Cranial Osteology of the Armadillo Chaetophractus villosus (Mammalia, Xenarthra, Dasypodidae) International Journal of Morphology
Squarcia,Silvia Margarita; Sidorkewicj,Nora Silvia; Casanave,Emma Beatriz.
The morphology and morphometry of the cranial bones of Chaetophractus villosus were studied. The skull components are morphologically similar between adults of both sexes, and follow the generalized pattern for most of described dasypodids. The morphometric analysis, however, demonstrated that the bones lying in the rostrocaudal plane are mostly longest in females, determining higher values of the total, basal and condilobasal lengths of the skull, which are the main variables that contribute to a sexual dimorphism in this species

Anatomical Indicators of Dominance between the Coronary Arteries of Dogs International Journal of Morphology
Oliveira,Carla Lívia Santos de; David,Gustavo Serra; Carvalho,Michelly de Oliveira; Dornelas,; Araújo,Sandra; da Silva,Nailton Cavalcante; Ruiz,Cristiane Regina; Fernandes,Juliana Ruiz; Wafae,Nader.
In humans, the right coronary artery is dominant. However, we did not find any citations in the literature concerning anatomical indicators of dominance among dogs. We used 30 hearts from mongrels of both sexes, fixed in 10% formalin. The branches of the coronary arteries were dissected with special attention to the levels that were considered to be reference points. In 96.7%, the circumflex branch of the left coronary artery reached or went beyond the crux cordis. The subsinuosus interventricular artery, ended before reaching the apex in 21 cases, at the apex in five cases and after the apex in four cases. The paraconal interventricular artery, ended before reaching the apex in two cases, at the apex in 11 cases and after the apex in 17 cases. The region...

Morphology and Histological Annual Changes of the Oviduct of Chaetophractus villosus (Mammalia, Xenarthra, Dasypodidae) International Journal of Morphology
Codón,Stella Maris; Casanave,Emma Beatriz.
The morphological features of the oviduct in the armadillo Chaetophractus villosus (Desmarest, 1804) were studied. In the simple columnar epithelium, ciliated cells, secretory cells, and cells of the bottom of the folds are described. The most remarkable findings are the increase in number of ciliated cells, when present, from the fimbriae to the uterus, being the isthmus practically lined by ciliated cells, and that secretory cells are more abundant in the apical zone of the ampulla and fimbriae, than in the isthmus. Morphological changes along the year in the different portions are described.

Morphological Study of the Iris Musculature in Diurnal and Nocturnal Raptors International Journal of Morphology
Coli,Alessandra; Stornelli,Maria Rita; Barsotti,Giovanni; Ceccherelli,Renato; Giani,Eleonora; Lenzi,Carla; Giannessi,Elisabetta.
In literature it is established that the iris musculature consists of striate muscle fibers in birds while in mammals it consists of smooth muscles. Some authors report the presence of smooth muscle tissue also in the iris of some species of birds. In the present study we report on the iris muscle tissues (type of tissue, direction and mean diameter of muscle fibers or cells) in five species of Accipitriformes (diurnal raptors) and four species of Strigiformes (nocturnal raptors) because they show different way of life depending of their predatory behavior. This morphological study was carried out from raptors died or euthanized at the Wild Life Rescue Centre of Sea and Water birds in Livorno (Italy). From histological examination of iris serial radial...

Intergenerational Morphostructural Stability and Harmony of Marin Magellan Meat Merino Ewes International Journal of Morphology
de la Barra,R; Martínez,M. E; Calderón,C; Latorre,E.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability and harmony of the morphostructural format of the Marin Magellan Meat Merino breed in order to contribute to knowledge about the differentiation of sheep populations. In summer 2010, evaluation on a sheep population coming from an incomplete absorbent crossbreeding of Corriedale by Australian Merino breeds was done in Magallanes Region, Chile. All three and five year-old ewes (62 and 50, respectively) were measured. Fourteen body measurements were taken and nine body indexes were calculated. Results show that the evaluated sheep population does not show significant intergenerational differences in most of the morphostructural variables. At the same time, there is a high between-age similarity in the...

Morphostructural Differentiation and Variability of Merino Sheep Breed Under Sustained Directional Selection International Journal of Morphology
de la Barra,R; Latorre,E; Martínez,M. E; Calderón,C.
In this paper, the degree of differentiation and morphostructural variability reached by the type of animal resulting from sustained directional selection, in addition to its implications for the emergence of a new sheep breed are analyzed. Twenty-five rams and 200 ewes from a sheep flock submitted to directional selection since 1987 were measured. Thirteen body measurements were taken in other to evaluate the structural morphology and sexual dimorphism. These measurements were compared with identical measures taken in Australian Merino and Marin Magellan Meat Merino sheep breeds. The intrapopulation homogeneity was assessed using the coefficients of variation of the average percentage of body measurements. It is concluded that sustained directional...

Influence of the Occlusal Alteration in the Mandible Morphology of the Gerbil International Journal of Morphology
Dias,Fernando José; Oliveira,Richard Honorato de; Issa,João Paulo Mardegan; Regalo,Simone Cecílio Hallak; Souza,Valéria O. Pagnano de; Catirse,Alma Blásida C. E. B; Iyomasa,Mamie Mizusaki.
Considering the biomechanical aspects, many facts need to be understood on the mandible, to know which effects unilateral occlusal changes may cause on the stomatognathic system. The aim of this study was to analyze the malocclusion by unilateral teeth extraction on the mandible morphology in gerbil. We used 10 gerbils Meriones unguiculatus, young male, weighing around 50-60g, divided into two groups (n=5), an experimental group and control, which evaluated the two hemi-mandibles, with a total of 20 samples which were measured by digital pachymeter. The measures were taken: (1) length and (2) width of the mandible condyle and (3) body height in the region of mandibular 1st molar. Data from these measurements were analyzed using ANOVA and Mann-Whitney test....
