| The Unit undertakes fundamental research in coastal meteorology, hydrography and physical oceanography with a main emphasis on the experimental study of the hydrodynamics of the sea in the vicinity of the Maltese Islands. It offers facilities for the gathering, processing, analysis and management of high quality physical oceanographic observations both for long term and baseline studies as well as for general applications in marine environmental research and assessments. | Turkish NODC operates under the organization of Department of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography (DNHO). Turkish NODC has a data base management system, and allocated experts for this mission. The center gets oceanographic data from the naval vessels, research vessels of the other Turkish institutes, and through exchange programs in the international level. The center provides data for educational and research purposes free of charge. |

| This program is part of research affords of the School of Physics concerning the international dissemination of our marine research. It basically has to do with tides and water levels, coastal currents and wave climate studies and such done always with the sponsorship of the costarrican government due to the reduced financial capacity of the university system in Costa Rica. | Born in 1992 out of the three entities (Marine Station, Department of Applied Oceanology and the Department of Fisheries High Training), the IH.SM has the task of training and Applied Research on Development. Attached to the University of Toliara, the Ministry of University studies (MINESUP). It is equipped with laboratories, aquaculture farm, specialized library. Thus, it regularly receives foreign trainees. We have built in its premises a house for the implementation of our NODC. Composed of 35 members (national and international residents), the IHSM only has 04 peoples for the ODINEA and RECOSCIX-WIO projects. |

| This manual is concerned primarily with techniques for the measurement of what are called relative sea level changes which means changes relative to the level of the land upon which the measuring instrument (the tide gauge) is located. The subject of changes in the level of land itself is reviewed later in this document but is given more detailed presentation in other reports to which we refer. The manual also concerns itself primarily with the part of the frequency spectrum of sea level change from minutes through to centuries by means of in situ devices at the coast (tide gauges).
