Gülle und Bio-Grünland - wie passt das zusammen? Organic Eprints
Starz, Walter; Pfister, Rupert; Rohrer, Hannes.

Using legume-based mixtures to enhance the nitrogen use efficiency and economic viability of cropping systems - Final report (LK09106/HGCA3447) Organic Eprints
Döring, T F; Baddeley, J. A.; Brown, R; Collins, R; Crowley, O; Cuttle, S P; Howlett, S A; Jones, H E; McCalman, H; Measures, M; Pearce, B D; Pearce, H; Roderick, S; Stobart, R; Storkey, J; Tilston, E; Topp, K; Watson, C A; Winkler, L; Wolfe, M S.
As costs for mineral fertilisers rise, legume-based leys are recognised as a potential alternative nitrogen source for crops. Here we demonstrate that including species-rich legume-based leys in rotations helps to maximise synergies between agricultural productivity and other ecosystem services. By using functionally diverse plant species mixtures, these services can be optimised and fine-tuned to regional and farm-specific needs. Replicated field experiments were conducted over three years at multiple locations, testing the performance of 12 legume species and 4 grass species sown in monocultures, as well as in a mixture of 10 of the legumes and all 4 grasses (called the All Species Mix, ASM). In addition, we compared this complex mixture to farmer-chosen...

Ertragsbildung von unterschiedlichen Kulturarten für die Biogaserzeugung im ökologischen Landbau Organic Eprints
Lyson, D. F.; Rinnofner, T.; Hrbek, R.; Leonhartsberger, C.; Amon, T.; Hein, W.; Friedel, J. K..
Energy crops for biogas production need to be integrated into sustainable and site adapted crop rotation systems, minimising the competition with food production. Luzerne/clover (-grass), sun flower, maize, green-rye + maize and vetch-rye + maize were compared at two sites in Austria with semi-arid (Raasdorf) and humid (Lambach) conditions with and without biogas slurry application. The yield of legumes and fertilised non-legumes at the humid site were 9 % to 56 % higher then at the semi-arid site. The 2-crop system maize following vetch-rye achieved the highest yields at both sites. Slurry from the biogas plant increased the yield only at the humid site.

Možnosti produkce sadby brambor v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství Organic Eprints
Dvorak, Petr; Micak, Libor.
Tento příspěvek předkládá dostupné možnosti regulace mšic resp. virových chorob u sadbových brambor v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství. Tyto zkušenosti a výsledky jsme ověřovaly v našem pokusu, který poskytl cenné zkušenosti z těchto podmínek. Výběr velmi raných odrůd, předklíčení sadby a obsev pohankou dle výsledků ELISA testů vyhovělo a splnilo požadavky na zdravotní stav sadbových hlíz. Pěstování odrůd s delší vegetací je (v podmínkách ekologického zemědělství) náročnější a vyžaduje vyšší nároky na ochranu proti přenašečům virových chorob.

Yield potential of chive: effects of cultivar, plastic mulch and fertilisation Organic Eprints
Suojala, Terhi.
Chive is a perennial herb, growing also natural in Finland. Commercial production of the herb is very small in our country, but large amounts of chive are imported. This fact has aroused interest in investigating the opportunities of producing chive using modern cultivation techniques. Effects of cultivar, plastic mulch as ground cover and fertilisation on yield were studied in field experiments over three years. In the experiments, the most productive cultivars or populations (a Finnish population “Hankoniemi”, a Dutch population “Tavallinen” and a German cultivar ‘Grolau’) produced 10–20% higher yields than the less productive cultivars. There were no clear differences in the yield quality between the cultivars. Black plastic mulch was effective in...

Lactic acid fermentation for refining proteins from green crops and obtaining a high quality feed product for monogastric animals Organic Eprints
Santamaria-Fernandez, Maria; Molinuevo-Salces, Beatriz; Kiel, Pauli; Steenfeldt, S.; Uellendahl, Hinrich; Lübeck, Mette.
Nowadays, the organic farming sector is growing at a fast pace in Europe while needs to face the lack of organic protein sources and in particular, feeding monogastric animals is becoming more and more urgent. Green biorefinery concepts might become the suitable solution for the sustainable production of organic protein-rich feeds from green crops. In this context, red clover, clover grass, alfalfa and oilseed radish were studied as possible feedstocks for the development of an organic biorefinery system in Northern Europe. For this purpose, the green crops were processed into a nitrogen-rich protein concentrate, a fiber-rich press cake, and a residual stream of soluble nutrients (brown juice). The process, which involved a novel protein refining technique...

Netradiční obilniny v ekozemědělství Organic Eprints
Konvalina, Petr.

Tijani, Sarafat A.; Owolabi, Grace.
The study assessed compliance to organic agricultural practice in the practical year training programme of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. A total of 122 PYTP students were sampled. Data were collected through well-structured questionnaire and analysed with frequency counts, percentages and means. Study revealed that 73.1% have high level of knowledge on organic agriculture. Quest to meet up with required yield, weed control and pest and diseases were the top constraints to compliance. Less than half (47.8%) of respondents had a high level of compliance. However, high knowledge of organic agricultural practices did not translate to high level of compliance to standard practice. Students must be made to adhere strictly to principles being taught by the...

Carbohydrate and lipid composition of vegetables, and bioavalability assessed in a rat model: Impact different cultivation systems Organic Eprints
Jørgensen, Henry; Bach Knudsen, Knud Erik; Lauridsen, Charlotte.
Environmental as well as cultivation factors may greatly influence the chemical composition of plants. The main factors affecting chemical composition of foodstuff is level and type of fertilizer (conventional and organic cultivation systems), location or soiltype and year of harvest. Organic foods are defined as products which are produced under controlled cultivation conditions characterized by the absence of synthetic fertilizers and very restricted use of pesticides. Dietary carbohydrates constitute a major fraction of most feedstuffs and can be divided according to glycosidic linkage into sugars (mono- and disaccharides), oligosaccharides, starch and non-starch polysaccharides (NSP). The bulk of disaccharides and starch will be broken down by the...

Ampferkontrolle mittels Heissdampfinjektion Organic Eprints
Latsch, Roy; Sauter, Joachim; Kaeser, Alexandra.
A control method for broad-leaved dock (Rumex obtusifolius) with hot steam was tested in grasslands in Switzerland. More than 700 plants were treated with a mixture of hot water and steam at a temperature of 120°C and a pressure of 30 bar. The aim was to identify an optimum heating time, so that the plant mortality rate was more than 80 %. The necessary diesel and water consumption for the heating were measured. The success of the method is strongly related to the soil moisture. The results show, that the intended mortality rate of 80 % at a soil moisture of 30 % can be realized at a calculated heating time of 30 seconds. For this treatment 2.4 litre of water and 0.046 litre of diesel were needed.
