Recent data on the distribution of birds in the Cape Verde Islands are presented, including records of six species new to the archipelago, viz. Pintail Anas acuta, Least Sandpiper Calidris minutilla, Snipe Gallinago gallinago, Red-rumped Swallow Hirundo daurica, African Sand Martin Riparia paludicola, and Song Thrush Turdus philomelos. Also included are data on extentions in range and time within the islands of migrant visitors as well as observations of rare and threatened resident species. Extralimital records of migrant Cape Verde seabirds are summarized and news and views relating to the conservation of threatened endemic taxa are discussed. In addition, some recent studies bearing on the systematics of endemic Procellarids are reviewed. |

Disophrys ovalis Fahringer, 1937 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Agathidinae) from Egypt is redescribed and transferred to the genus Troticus Brullé, 1846 (comb. nov.) with Disophrys aegyptiaca Fahringer, 1937, as its junior synonym (syn. nov.). For the first time a reliable host record for the genus and for T. ovalis is given. The holotype of Troticus melamopterus Cameron, 1903 has been examined by the first author and is transferred to the genus Cremnops Foerster, 1862 (C. melamopterus Cameron, 1903 comb. nov.). |

Fourteen species of shrimps belonging to four genera of the family Atyidae are reported from the Fiji Islands. Three genera are represented by only one species each: Antecaridina lauensis (Edmondson, 1935), Atyoida pilipes (Newport, 1847) and Atyopsis spinipes (Newport, 1847) while the fourth, Caridina is represented by eleven species (including one new, Caridina devaneyi spec. nov. which is described and illustrated). Keys are provided to separate the genera and species. Two species, Caridina japonica De Man, 1892 and C. longirostris H. Milne Edwards, 1837 are recorded from Fiji for the first time. C. devaneyi spec, nov., C. fijiana Choy, 1983 and C. nudirostris Choy, 1984 are so far known only from Fiji and may be endemic to the island of Viti Levu. All... |

The European species of the subgenus Aliolus Say, 1836, of the genus Eubazus Nees, 1814, and of the genus Dicyrtaspis van Achterberg, 1980 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Brachistinae) are reviewed. The identity of Triaspis thomsoni Fahringer, 1934, and the interpretation by S˘ noflák (1953) are discussed. A lectotype is designated for T. thomsoni, a neotype for the types species of Aliolus Say, 1836 (Bracon trilobatus Say, 1836) and T. thomsoni sensu Šnoflák is described as a new species (Eubazus nigroventralis spec. nov.) from Bulgaria, Germany and Czech Republic. Two new species of the E. lepidus-group are described and illustrated (E. punctifer cpec. nov. from Bulgaria and E. planifacialis spec. nov. from The Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden). In addition, a... |

The species of the genus Euagathis Szépligeti, 1900 (Braconidae: Bassinae (= Agathidinae)) from the Greater and Lesser Sunda Islands (including West Malaysia) are revised and keyed. The subfamily name Bassinae Nees, 1812, is used because it is senior to the commonly used subfamily name Agathidinae Nees, 1814. Twenty-two species are recognized, of which nine are new. The genus Holcotroticus Cameron, 1902, is synonymized with Euagathis Szepligeti, 1900, and Euagathis ruficollis (Cameron, 1902) is a new combination. The following species are synonymized: Euagathis pilosa Szépligeti, 1902, and E. creophora Cameron, 1905, with E. clathrata (Brullé, 1846); E. rufonigra Enderlein, 1920, with E. ruficollis (Cameron, 1902); Euagathis variabilis Enderlein, 1920,... |

A lectotype of Arion hortensis Férussac, 1819 and a neotype of A. distinctus Mabille, 1868 are selected in order to assure nomenclatural stability. Descriptions of preserved specimens of these species from large parts of central and western Europe are provided, as well as of living animals from The Netherlands and Belgium. The main characters used by Davies (1977, 1979) to separate the British representatives of this complex were found suitable in the rest of Europe as well, in contrast to some characters given by De Wilde (1983). Arion owenii Davies, 1979 was not present in the material studied. Provisional UTM-distribution maps (50 km grid) of A. hortensis and A. distinctus in Europe (except the British Isles and Belgium) are provided, besides 10 km grid... |

The West Palaearctic species of the genus Agathis Latreille, 1804 (Braconidae: Agathidinae) are revised and keyed. Forty-six species of Agathis are treated as valid, of which 29 occur in Europe; three species of the former Agathis mediator group (Bassus brevicaudus (Reinhard, 1867) comb. nov., B. mediator (Nees, 1814), and B. pumilus (Ratzeburg, 1844)) are transferred to the genus Bassus Nees, 1804. One new species (A. hemirufa) from Spain is described. The following species are synonymised: Agathis longicauda Kokujev, 1895, A. albanica Fischer, 1957, A. syriaca Fischer, 1957, A. caucasica Tobias, 1963, and A. taiwanensis Chou & Sharkey, 1989, with A. anglica Marshall, 1885; A. propinqua Kokujev, 1895, A. jakowlewi Kokujev, 1895, and A. anchisiades... |

Six new species of the genus Austrozele Roman, one new genus (Rectizele; type species: R. parki spec. nov. from Korea), and eight species of the genus Macrocentrus Curtis are described and illustrated. Keys to the Holarctic genera and to the Palaearctic species are added. New combinations are: Dolichozele gravitarsis (Muesebeck, 1938); Hymenochaonia delicata (Cresson, 1872). The following new synonyms are proposed: Paniscozele sumatrana Enderlein, 1920, and Palinzele oceanica Brues, 1922, with Austrozele longipes (Holmgren, 1868); Plectobracon testaceus Brèthes, 1927, with Dolichozele koebeli Viereck, 1911; Eubadizon dubius Wesmael, 1835, Macrocentrus affinis Hedwig, 1961, and M. affiniqades Shenefelt, 1969, with M. collaris (Spinola, 1808); Macrocentrus... |
