Andrade,Orlando; Campillo,Ricardo; Peyrelongue,Amelia; Barrientos,Leticia.
Improved knowledge of the biological phenomenon of soil suppressiveness is critical for the management and biological control of soil-borne pathogens. Andisols, which are located in southern Chile, show very high conduciveness to the take-all disease of wheat caused by the fungal soil-borne pathogen Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici. However, no previous reports have investigated suppressive soils in this important wheat-producing area. The first part of this study was conducted to identify soils suppressive to the take-all disease, and will be followed by a characterization of its microflora to identify potential bio-control agents against the fungal pathogen. Based on the transferability of suppressiveness into the same sterile soil background, 20...

Phytostabilization of massive mine wastes with native phytogenetic resources: potential for sustainable use and conservation of the native flora in north-central Chile Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Orchard,Cristina; León-Lobos,Pedro; Ginocchio,Rosanna.
The mining industry has left an important legacy of inadequately abandoned tailing storage facilities (TSFs) in the north-central area of Chile, and they may pose environmental risks. The Chilean government has recently established new regulations governing the closure of TSFs, and these regulations favor the use of environmentally sustainable technologies. Among these technologies is phytostabilization, which can use native plant species that may also have economic and/or subsistence value. Phytostabilization programs based on sustainably maintained native species could also contribute to the conservation of both local flora and regional ecosystems in north-central Chile. The main objective of this study was to use the Coquimbo region as a case study area...

Refrigeration logistics operations and perishable transport costs in groupage loads: an application for Spanish exports in Europe Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
González-Moralejo,Silvia Andrés.
In this paper, we analyze the current Spanish tariff system as applied by low-temperature distribution companies on transport in part loads of perishable freight that are destined to Spain's main European export markets. Using 2008 data that have been directly obtained from a sample of transport companies, the price structure is formulated by making a distinction between ordinary and final prices and their respective variables. Next, the price structure is compared to the mean production costs. According to our calculations, we can state that the tariffs of distribution companies depend on the mean total cost, and they are estimated by using final prices calculated expressly for every customer. Finally, this paper outlines directions for future empirical...
