Udsædsbårne sygdomme i økologisk såsæd - betydning og skadetærskler Organic Eprints
Nielsen, B.J.; Nielsen, G.C.; Pinnschmidt, H.; Wolffhechel, H.; Justesen, A.F.; Hansen, H.J.; Borgen, A.; Bødker, L.; Kristensen, E.F..

Hann, Dr. Patrick; Kromp, Dr. Bernhard.
The broad-leaved dock (Rumex obtusifolius) is a widely distributed weed of cultivated grasslands. Since the dock leaf beetle (Gastrophysa viridula) can defoliate docks extensively, if occurring in sufficient high densities, it is considered to be a potential part of a biocontrol strategy against R. obtusifolius. Our study aimed at investigating the influence of precipitation on the distribution of G. viridula. For that, 635 questionnaires were sent out to organic farmers and surveys were conducted on 39 farms in Lower Austria. The results showed G. viridula preferring regions with sufficient precipitation. These observations confirmed laboratory results reported in literature and should be considered in a concept for the enhancement of dock beetle...

Proteomic analysis of the Mycocentrospora acerina-carrot interaction during storage Organic Eprints
LOUARN, Sébastien; Jensen, Birgit; NAWROCKI, Arkadiusz; NØRREGAARD JENSEN, Ole.
During post harvest storage, a large proportion of carrots (more than 50%) may have to be discarded due to the development of liquorice rot caused by Mycocentrospora acerina. This fungus is soil borne and brought into the store in to soil adhering to the root. Liquorice rot development is mainly related to physiological or structural resistance of carrot, therefore the control of this storage disease is based on cultural practices and storage conditions. It is believed that carrots at the beginning of storage can resist disease developments due to chemical defence mechanisms involving some proteins, peptides and secondary metabolites. The hypothesis is that proteome changes during storage of carrots are related to the susceptibility to M. acerina. During...

Rooting and vitality of poinsettia cuttings was increased by arbuscular mycorrhiza in the donor plants Organic Eprints
Druege, Uwe; Xylaender, Marco; Zerche, Sigfried; von Alten, Henning.
In this paper, we provide evidence that the rooting performance of cuttings can be improved by the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis of donor plants. Poinsettia stock plants were inoculated with the Glomus intraradices isolate H510 and grown in three different cultivation systems (two organic and one conventional). AM colonization was not related to P availability in the substrate. Decay of the excised cuttings in response to unfavorable postharvest storage conditions was significantly reduced by AM colonization of the stock plants. In most cases, AM significantly promoted the formation of adventitious roots in the stored cuttings. The strongest effect of AM was found when donor plants were grown in a modified organic substrate; then AM-conditioned...

Erfahrungen mit neuen feuerbrandresistenten Unterlagen in Süddeutschland Organic Eprints
Ruess, Franz.
Fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) was detected on rootstocks in several apple orchards in Baden-Württemberg. In Germany the mostly used rootstocks on apple ‘M9’ and ‘M26’ are known to be susceptible to fire blight. Therefore the LVWO Weinsberg participated in the “European Cornell-Geneva rootstocks trial” which is a common experiment of seven research institutes over whole Europe. Six fire blight resistant or tolerant root-stocks from the Geneva® breeding program were tested in comparison to ‘M9’ (Type T337 and Pajam 2). The variety was ‘Golden Delicious’ and the trees were planted in 2001 . An outstanding new rootstock was ‘Geneva® 11’. The tree size was similar to ‘M9’ (above 7% more growth in comparison to ‘T337’). Besides that the influence on the fruit...
